About this property

House on Appalachian Trail, walking distance from NYC trains. 3bd/1ba, 3 acres

Hike the Appalachian Trail! This is a cozy 3 bedroom, 1 bath, with full basement, and 3 acres of land, RIGHT ON THE TRAIL. Hop on a train from Penn Station in NYC, and head to the Appalachian Trail stop (Harlem Line - check times online), where you can then walk to the house. Enjoy mother nature at it's finest with a short hike up historic Quaker Hill section of the Appalachian Trail. Make a left out of the driveway, walk a hundred feet, and the trail can be accessed from the road there.

This home is a cozy 3 bedroom bungalow style, with a newly remodeled bathroom, and kitchen. There is a washer and dryer in the basement. All bedding/linens/mattresses are new. Towels are provided. The yard itself is set on 3 acres, and has a very comfortable outdoor space, plus sunroom. The trees around the house are filled with tree frogs, and there is plenty of room in the yard to stretch out and play some games. The Appalachian Trail goes right by the back of this yard, and winds up Quaker Hill, and connects with a few other trails. Bring a map, as there are many turns, and getting lost is easy.

For those that enjoy biking, the new Harlem Valley Rail Trail is fantastic! It passes through the center of the "Great Swamp", where wildlife abounds. Bring your bikes, and your binoculars. It is possible to bike to New Paltz from the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.

We accept up to 2 well behaved pets under 40 lbs. There is a $50 fee per pet. For companion and service dogs/pets, paperwork must be submitted before stay. Please let us know if you are bringing any, and read our policies and rules.

A wonderful family retreat!
My family and our two dogs stayed here for five days while visiting family over the Christmas holiday and made wonderful memories. The home was clean and well-stocked with dinnerware, cookware and appliances and the location was wonderful! It was easily accessible to Metro-North and we spent a day in NYC. At the same time, we were able to explore several miles and beautiful views of the Appalachian Trail. We look forward to staying here again next time we are in town!

Very nice and comfy
A planned escape to our old college selves! Thirty seven years ago we met, stayed forever friends. Came to Pawling as a central location although I came form CO❤️Found out two days before arrival that one friend needed quadruple bypass surgery. It was shocking but we came anyway to visit her and be together to support her from afar. The house was peaceful and just what we needed. One suggestion would be to provide baking sheets:) thank you again for the comfortable stay.

Perfect Location
Senior Day hikers doing section hikes on the Appalachian Trail. From this location we could easily drive to our destination quickly. Great Restaurant in a really nice small town. We had a great time and everything we needed at the house was there.

Serene, cozy home
The house is very private, in beautiful surroundings with a gorgeous yard and a nice sunroom porch to view the wildlife in the backyard. We loved having our morning coffee on the porch. The house is larger and cozier than the pictures show. It had everything we needed and was a short drive to anywhere we needed to go. Would definitely love to stay again next time we are in the area visiting family.

Great location for a long weekend
The house is clean, cute, and well air-conditioned. Fresh air can be had on the screened porch, though the bedroom windows have no screens. There are many pleasant outdoor seating areas as well, one with a fire pit. The outdoor grills require charcoal. The property is well-located, an easy walk away from the Appalachian Trail, and an easy drive to both the supermarket and the town of Pawling, which has nice shops and a good farmer's market. We enjoyed a relaxing stay.

I live in Pawling year-round, and enjoy the nature and small New England village feel of our beautiful location.

Why they chose this property

Where else are you going to get off of a train from NYC, and walk to a house which connects to the Appalachian trail? While you do not need a bike to get to the house or the hiking trail, if you would like to tour the countryside, a car will be needed.

Besides this section of the trail, you can visit Kent Falls, Bear Mtn., and many many nature parks in the area. Pawling Nature Preserve is a short walk on the AT from the house as well, and overlooks Quaker Lake.

What makes this property unique

The basement is great for a group of hikers with a lot of gear. You can drop your packs down there, and do all your laundry, while enjoying the house upstairs.

The sun room in the back of the house is 3 season, and is large. It was not calculated in the living space when we listed this property. It also has furniture.

The yard is surrounded by native hardwood forests.

By and large, the largest unique benefit this property has is its proximity to NYC trains. If you have a bike, DO NOT FORGET to bring it, as you can hop on Metro North to the end of the line, and bike the new paved biking trail along the tracks. It is very scenic, and abounds with wildlife, as it is part of the "Great Swamp". Bring binoculars!
