The bedrooms are elegantly decorated, each with its own character and charm. With comfortable beds and cosy furnishings, you are assured of a restful night’s sleep after exploring the village and estate of Falkland.
Wake up to the soft rays of sunlight streaming through the windows and indulge in a cup of coffee while gazing across to Falkland Palace, Scotland’s first Renaissance palace and a reminder of the village’s royal past. The three bathrooms are well-appointed and offer modern amenities to cater to your needs. Relax in a soothing bath or refresh yourself with an invigorating shower before embarking on your daily adventures.
Moncrieff House has undergone complete refurbishment in 2023/24, and you can now enjoy modern comforts in a historic setting. It has a fully equipped kitchen, where you can create delicious meals and the adjacent dining area provides the perfect setting for enjoying your creations with loved ones and friends. There is a large enclosed garden where you sit back and relax, perfect for sitting out on a long summer evening. After a day of exploring the area, unwind in one of the comfortable living rooms, furnished with plush sofas and stocked with games, books and TV. Relax and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the surroundings.
When it’s time to venture outside, Falkland offers a wealth of attractions and activities. Wander through the picturesque and historic village (Falkland is one of the key settings for the popular TV series Outlander) where quaint shops, traditional pubs, and charming tea rooms await. Immerse yourself in Falkland’s fascinating history by exploring the magnificent Falkland Palace, one of the National Trust for Scotland’s premier locations. This Renaissance gem with it’s Royal Chapel, historic paintings, tapestries and hangings, extensive gardens and grounds is well worth exploring. Then why not take an idyllic stroll along the West Port past the village fountain to the famous Falkland Estate. After just a few minutes you will enter an enchanting landscape where there are many country walks to choose from - pick up some maps and guides from the converted Stables building which now also houses a cafe and a small art gallery. Look up to East Lomond - or Falkland Hill as it’s known locally - with the knowledge of it’s Pictish past and the impressive Hillfort which once sat on top, dominating the local landscape.

Moncrieff House has been tastefully renovated and is spacious, very well-equipped, warm and ideally situated for all local amenities. Falkland has, since our last visit, lost 2 of its 3 pubs and a very good cafe, but still has plenty to offer visitors. We loved our stay in Moncrieff House and would recommend it to anyone. We hope to return one day.
