About the host
Hosted by Georg Bergthaler
Georg is a certified Tyrolean mountain guide, whitewater rafting and canoeing guide, wilderness guide, survival and bushcraft trainer and skiing instructor, as well as a NOLS wilderness first responder. He also holds a Master's degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology, successfully completed two years of training as forestry warden ("Forstwart"). Georg is a devoted hunter, fisherman and survivalist and a so called registered forest and hunting pedagogue (Wald- und Jagdpädagoge) in Austria. In 2020 he and his wife Mackenzie founded “Wild Nasswald”, a center for outdoor activities including whitewater rafting, axe throwing, bushcraft and survival workshops, team building, bachelor parties, school or university outdoor events, guided mountain hikes, and more recently also Glamping in Nasswald, Austria.
Why they chose this property
Being one of the most remote and isolate towns of Austria, the roughly 50 people strong village of Nasswald is amidst the easternmost alpine peaks of the Alps, the Klosterwappen (2076 m) of Schneeberg mountain, the Heukuppe (2007 m) of the Rax high-plateau, Europe’s largest high plateau, and Windberg (1903 m) of the Schneealpe massive. Located at the end of the road, Nasswald and its side valleys owe their secluded location to the Höllental canyon allowing only one public access road by car or bus. The surrounding mountain and forest landscape much of which is under some sort of environmental protection hosts a large variety of species, including mountain goats, red deer, boars, badgers, fish otters, lynx, wolves, and the kings of alpine skies, golden eagles.
What makes this property unique
What makes Wild Glamping Vienna Alps so special is the rare balance it offers between deep wilderness and thoughtful comfort. Tucked away in Nasswald, one of the most remote villages of the Eastern Alps, this is a place where nature still sets the rhythm of the day. Majestic mountain peaks, crystal-clear streams, and mixed alpine forests surround you in every direction, creating an atmosphere of true seclusion just a short journey from Vienna. Here, glamping means more than just spending the night outdoors. Tastefully furnished tents blend seamlessly into the landscape and provide a cozy retreat after days filled with fresh air and adventure. Nights unfold under vast, star-filled skies, while evenings invite you to gather around the campfire, grill your own meals on 360° fire bowls, and slow down in a way modern life rarely allows. Simple pleasures—harvesting herbs, berries, or fruit from your private raised-bed garden, or sinking into a wood-fired hot tub—become unforgettable moments. What truly sets this place apart is its spirit of exploration. Through the Wildnis Zentrum Nasswald, guests can dive into guided whitewater canoeing, kayaking, tubing, survival skills, navigation workshops, or even axe throwing. Whether you seek quiet relaxation or adrenaline-filled experiences, Wild Glamping Vienna Alps offers both—authentic, unspoiled, and deeply connected to nature.
