About this property

Betty's House, a vacation home in the country on a farm. 2 bedrooms & 2 baths

The house was built in 1988 and the barn was built around 1900. There is a 2 car garage and it is adjacent to a paved county road in the heart of Buffalo County, the white-tailed deer capital of the world.
Come and experience modern agriculture that is the envy of the world nestled in the hills and valleys of the unglaciated portion of the Midwest United States. Pets are welcome as we are dog people and we have great safe places to walk your dog away from traffic. There are unique things to do in our area which is 12 miles from the mighty Mississippi River.
Have you ever traveled in an area and wondered what the people in the area are like? It is hard to find that out by stopping at a gas station or a visitor center. By staying at Betty's House, you get to know who we are, who our neighbors are and why we live here. Or you can just enjoy the scenery, the solitude of the country, riding the roads that are all paved in the area, and eating at eclectic places or at some of the best dining places in the world. . Betty's House has the kitchen where my Mother made birthday dinners and Thanksgiving dinners. You can eat on the expandable table where we ate our meals.
Wifi, fiber to the home, smart TV and cell service is all provided for those who want to be connected.
At night you may here a coyote call or maybe the resident deer will walk on the lawn with her baby at her side. There are bald eagles every where. I counted 25 one day from the back porch of Betty's House. There is a trout stream within a short walk.
Of course, there are lots of cows. Looking out the kitchen window you will see a breeding age heifer lot about 1/4 mile away. Looking south from the large front deck you will see the large milking dairy about 1/2 mile away. A corn field is about 100 feet from the house and across the road is an alfalfa field. Harvest, planting and other normal farm activity will be a daily thing when you stay at Betty's House as you are staying in farm country
Biking, walking, touring, wading in a stream, golfing, bird watching, wildlife viewing and other activities are at your pleasure.

About the host

Hosted by John Rosenow

Host profile image
Our names are John and Nettie Rosenow. After graduating from UW-River Falls we began farming with John's parents. Then later with John's brother Paul and a neighbor Loren Wolfe. We own and operate a 500 cow dairy where we milk around the clock. Nettie loves horses and has 11 of them. She tries to ride daily. John enjoys golf but struggles to play as well as he would like. We enjoy a good conversation but also prefer the solitude of country living.

Why they chose this property

My great uncle bought this property in the early 1990s and managed the local butter plant for 40 years. He quit when the coop board began to take milk on Sundays. He was a deeply religious man. My father bought it in 1947 and used the previous house as the hired man's house. Later when I, John, turned 14, my father tore the house down. I was now old enough to do all of the work. In the late 60s my grandparents bought the only new house they ever had, a mobile home. They moved it onto the property, raised chickens for eggs in the barn and lived out their lives here. In 1988 my parents moved off of the home farm, the one you see out of the kitchen window by the sink, and built the current house. They grew up in the Great Depression so were frugal building their house. They wanted to travel instead and they did. My Mother, Betty, died in 2012. After driving by the empty house so many times we came up with the VRBO idea.

What makes this property unique

Living on a farm in a beautiful setting is the way to spend one's life. Everyday we wake up and get to view the bluffs, the fog, the wildlife and enjoy the solitude. Plus we are 15 minutes from the Mississippi River which is just wonderful. There are many unique places to visit, eat and tour. We have a farm with lots of cows .There are deer to view every evening with a drive through the hills. When you stay at Betty's House you will be able to enjoy this as well.
