We had a unique situation & actually were unable to complete the stay. The unit was advertised as non smoking, but it very clearly had been previously smoked in. My husband has really bad asthma & therefore triggered upon check in. The negatives were not only the smoke, but also that someone was in the parking space assigned & we were trying to figure out where it was/where to enter...meaning the check in process was difficult as well. Had the building manager not been there to tell us to call up to another unit "that it is most likely her boyfriend in that spot", we would not have known what to do. We did reach out to the host and they responded fairly quickly & did eventually come to the unit to address the smoke smell. He was very friendly & understanding, but was unable to promise us a refund if we left the property. Therefore we had to act in good faith that they would provide a refund to us & also not charge us for the security deposit. That also meant that we had to find another place to stay instead with limited time, money, & options to choose from. The positives were the communication, in destination from the host, & them following up the next afternoon & agreeing to the refund us (although in the moment it was very nerve-racking on if we would get our money back or not, which soured those last few days of our vacation.). The were also very understanding and kind in regards to the communication side. I did have to follow up on the refund a month after also.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. First of all, we are glad to hear that our communication and support during your stay were appreciated. Regarding the smoking issue, our property has a strict non-smoking policy. Unfortunately, while these rules are clearly communicated to all guests, we are not physically present during each stay and cannot fully control individual behavior. In this case, it appears that a previous guest did not respect the rules. This is precisely why we investigated the matter and proceeded with a refund, as a gesture of fairness while we addressed the situation internally. As for the parking, the space is indeed assigned to the property. However, if another person occupies it without authorization, there is no immediate way for us to anticipate or prevent this in real time. The only action we can take is to identify the person responsible and inform them accordingly through proper channels. We understand that the situation was inconvenient, and this is exactly why we handled your case with care and provided a resolution.
