ASF bus services are available in the city of Como and neighboring towns; tickets can be purchased on board (cash only) or at authorized points of sale (the bus station in Piazza Matteotti in Como, bars, and tobacconists). Taxi services are also available. From the Como San Giovanni train station, you can easily reach Milan Central Station and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno). TIPS
We recommend dedicating a day to visiting the beautiful towns around the lake. Como is the main urban center, but the lakeside towns are gems with stunning villas. Wear comfortable shoes when walking around Lake Como, especially in smaller villages. There are many public fountains with drinking water in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also potable. Bring your reusable bottle! If you\'re looking for a relatively easy hike with great mountain views, the Greenway del Lago di Como is a well-marked path connecting towns from Colonno to Griante, with few inclines. A bus can take you to the starting point in Colonno. Seek out traditional restaurants to taste local specialties, such as dishes made with Lake Como fish. In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services close during midday, so plan your shopping accordingly. Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are forbidden in many areas and can be dangerous. However, there are some options for those wanting to get in the water. In Como, there\'s an outdoor pool near Villa Olmo, but swimming in the lake is generally not recommended and mostly prohibited. Other lakeside towns offer beaches. A charming little beach awaits in Careno, though it can be crowded on weekends. Locals and visitors also love going to Nesso, where adventurous swimmers can jump into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall. The Bellagio Lido and the pebbly beach of San Giovanni are perfect for those wishing to explore the beautiful town of Bellagio, located at the junction of the two branches of the lake. Lake Como lies in a mountainous region. Although the surrounding Prealps may not appear very tall, the climate is strongly influenced by nearby mountains, and temperatures can change rapidly. Pay close attention to weather conditions during hikes and bring warm, waterproof clothing!
EXPERIENCES There are so many amazing things to do around Lake Como! We can suggest and help you organize the following:
Private boat tours Kayaking/SUP on the lake Seaplane flights over the lake Yoga and meditation classes Wine tastings Cooking classes Hiking and foraging Mountain biking excursions Mountain trekking Guided tours of Milan
For more information, feel free to contact us—we’ll be happy to recommend experiences tailored to your interests!
