About this property
Cosy Cottage Near Crinan Canal with Wood Burner - Pet Friendly, Enclosed Garden
10 Cairnbaan Cottages is a charming, character-filled cottage set just metres from the tranquil waters of the Crinan Canal. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and peaceful countryside, it offers the perfect escape from the pace of everyday life — an inviting place to slow down, relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Inside, the cottage features a cosy living room with a wood-burning stove, Smart TV and a comfortable reading nook tucked into the corner — ideal for unwinding after a day exploring. The well-equipped kitchen includes a hob, oven and grill, microwave and a stylish Smeg fridge/freezer, providing everything you need for a comfortable self-catering stay.
A separate dining room offers plenty of space for relaxed family meals — or even a memorable Christmas dinner if you're visiting during the festive season.
Upstairs, the main bedroom is a spacious double and enjoys lovely views across the canal. The second bedroom is perfect for families, featuring two sets of bunk beds handcrafted locally from beautiful natural wood. Please note that the bunks are slightly narrower than standard single beds.
The large bathroom has been tastefully modernised and includes a bath with shower over.
Downstairs, the cottage looks out onto leafy surroundings, while the upstairs bedroom enjoys peaceful canal views.
Outside, the enclosed south-facing back garden enjoys sunshine for most of the day — perfect for relaxing outdoors. Behind the parking spaces there is an additional enclosed garden area with a trampoline, as well as a shared green behind the row of cottages which is ideal for ball games and outdoor play.
Explore the Area
The area around the cottage is perfect for walkers, cyclists, paddleboarders, kayakers and dog owners. A nearby track leads straight back onto the towpath of the Crinan Canal, where you can walk or cycle for miles while enjoying the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Keep an eye out for the resident swans and their cygnets in spring and early summer — and if you're lucky, you might even spot a kingfisher along the canal.
A pleasant 10-minute walk along the canal brings you to Polly's Coffee Stop at Lock 10, a much-loved local stop for excellent coffee, homemade cakes and light breakfasts or lunches. Be sure to check their Facebook page for opening times.
The nearby Cairnbaan Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and is expected to reopen in 2026 — we look forward to welcoming it back as another fantastic local dining option.
Discover Kilmartin and Beyond
Just under seven miles away lies Kilmartin and the remarkable Kilmartin Glen — an area widely considered to contain one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in Scotland. Within six miles of the village you'll find more than 350 archaeological monuments, including standing stones, cup-and-ring marked rocks, ancient forts, cairns, castles and stone circles.
The newly refurbished Kilmartin Museum is a must-visit during your stay, with the excellent Glen Bistro located beside it. The nearby Kilmartin Hotel is also a favourite with locals and visitors alike — and it's dog friendly too.
The cottage is also perfectly placed for exploring the wider area, sitting just a couple of miles from Lochgilphead and Crinan, and around an hour from Oban. From here you can enjoy day trips to local castles, coastal scenery and ferries to Scotland's beautiful west coast islands.
Dogs are very welcome at 10 Cairnbaan Cottages - we believe a family holiday should be available to the whole family!
We do not limit the size/breed of dogs you can bring (within reason), and they are charged at £10 each per week. We just ask that you confirm in advance the number you are bringing; bring throws/blankets if you allow them on the soft furnishings; and leave the property clean and tidy.
