About this property
Thorne Cottage - Heart of Northumberland Family and dog friendly
Situated in the heart of Northumberland, this stone built cottage provides the perfect cosy retreat after visiting the many sites of Northumberland.
Family and dog friendly, relax with your loved ones in front of the large cosy fireplace after a day of adventure either hiking, shopping, visiting historic landmarks or walking along a beach.
Easy access by car to many of Northumberland's attractions:
- 5 minutes to the Ingram and Breamish valleys. Waterfalls, rolling hills, riverbanks and picnics!!
- 11 minutes to the market town of Alnwick, famous for its Castle (home of Harry Potter) and the beautiful Alnwick Gardens
- 15 minutes to Rothbury, the Simonside Hills, the Victorian mansion Cragside, now owned by the National Trust or simply a walk along the River Coquet
- 20 minutes to the town of Wooler known as the "Gateway to the Cheviots"
- 25 to 35 minutes to the beaches of Northumberland. From Alnmouth, to Craster to pick up some kippers, to Seahouses and a boat trip to the Farne Islands or up to Bamburgh to see the iconic Castle
- 40 minutes will take you slightly further north to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Don't forget to check your tide times or you may get have to stay the night!
Glanton itself is a small village in the foothills of the Cheviots. Very much a farming community, it is not unusual to see sheep being driven past the front door of the cottage as they make their way from one grazing field to another.
There is a thriving pub the Queens Head, a part-time shop/newsagent and Sub Post Office, a village Hall, and a church (URC but with Church of England services too) with its own associated hall.
Thorne Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome. We would love to know their names!
The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village shop or the nearby garage. The rear of the cottage looks out over a shared gravelled area. A bit of a sun trap, you'll find a small patio area where you can enjoy a cup of tea in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. This area is not enclosed so you will need to watch over your pet.
The dining area seats 4 comfortably and looks out over the front of the house.
There is a well equipped kitchen.
Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath.
