Even with all beds down there is still plenty of room to move around!
Really open space with beds up....leaving them up until bedtime is an option!

About this property

NOGAL CANYON ESCAPES / BUNKHOUSE - LINCOLN COUNTY NATIONAL FOREST

Bunkhouse Cabin: (Pond on property -may not be suitable for small children.)
Our bunkhouse is situated approximately 75 feet from the Homebase . Both are located at the base of Nogal Peak on five acres with National Forest on three sides. It is surrounded by beautiful Ponderosa pines with a natural creek running through the property. If you like camping but prefer some of the comforts of home, this is the place for you. Rustic yet comfortable is this 550+ sq ft open concept cabin. For the hunters this is unit 36.

Amenities
The cabin is furnished with four murphy double beds sleeping 8 easily as well as a fully furnished kitchenette including refrigerator, stove/oven range, and microwave. Large flat screen television with Roku stick for personal streaming television service and DVD/VCR combo for personal movies. The cabin has one sizable bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. There is very little cellular connectivity in the canyon, no landline however there is internet and we use wifi calling to communicate to the outside world ☺️. Linens and towels provided for number of guests on the reservation. This is the perfect place to disconnect.

A fire ring is located just below the cabin for campfires. Campers must check with Lincoln County Sheriff's Dispatch for open burning status (800-687-2419). All campfires are limited to the fire ring and must be extinguished with water. A charcoal grill is provided for outdoor cooking. (Charcoal not provided)

A 100 x 100 ft barbless wire corral with water trough is available for campers with horses and/or mules. There are many trails for horseback riding. Pennsylvania Canyon is located 1/4 mile from the cabin. Also accessible is Indian Creek and Nogal Trail-head. Access Crest Trail-head and from there find Tortolita, Norman, Gaylord and Littleton Canyons as well as many others. For more information, obtain a "White Mountain Wilderness Lincoln National Forest" map. These can be obtained from the Forest Service in Ruidoso. Smokey Bear District of Lincoln National Forest is 423,416 acres and The White Mountain Wilderness is 50,000 acres. All accessed from our driveway. Until you have seen the mountains from horseback, you haven't seen the mountains!

The property is approximately 13 miles from Capitan and 20 miles from Ruidoso.
This property has an well. The water is safe for drinking. As with any well, depending on the amount of rain, the water can have a slight sulfur smell when the cabin sits without use. This is easily remedied by opening the outdoor faucet and letting the water run for a few minutes. Campers may want to bring drinking water. We have a water filtration system on the cabin.

RECENT FIRE IN NOGAL:
Our property was not affected by the recent fire. You will need to travel through a portion of the nogal canyon that was affected by the fire to access our property. I am providing a video of our property to alleviate any concerns of fire damage. It is still beautiful here and while we are deeply sorry for our neighbors, we feel great gratitude for being spared from the fire.

WINTER RESERVATIONS:
This property is at approximately 7800+ ft elevation and can receive heavy amounts of snow. Guest should have a four-wheel drive vehicle to access property and snow chains. Winter reservations include a special weather related cancellation policy. Full refund is provided (within 48 hours of reservation) in cases where interstates are closed/or property cameras indicate snow levels preventing travel.

If you need more space there is another cabin on this property. Please see listing 1180713.

Perfect Escape
My kids love the mountains and my wife and I enjoy a place that is remote and private. This place was perfect for our family. It is about a 5 mile drive from the main road to the cabin - and it is like driving into a different world. The cabin is the last lot prior to entering the National Park proper and is surrounded by tall pine trees and nature. MILES and MILES of forest and trails to hike right outside of the cabin gate. We hardly saw anyone while we were there taking in the sights - it was like having your own private forest to explore. There is no cell phone service or internet - so it is the perfect place to go to "disconnect". My teen sons didn't miss it and we were NEVER bored in the week we were there. The cabin is well appointed and to describe it as "cozy" and "comfy" is an understatement. There was an old VCR/DVD combo and a selection of old movies - we quickly fell into the habit of hiking and outdoor activities during the day then settling in for hot cocoa/tea and an old movie or board game at night. It is close enough to Ruidoso and other locations (like Ski Apache) so there is always activities to do once you want to take a break from hiking. The owners are super nice and were quick to respond to all questions. I cannot recommend this place enough - we will be back!

Disconnected
If you ever just want to get away and not have anybody reach you this is an awesome place to go. Everything that is needed is there. Great way to reconnect with your partner.

Elk Hunt Headquarters
This cabin was just perfect for my husband and boys (16 & 18) - perfect location for their hunt, perfect amenities, plenty of room and super clean. It was a great place to come back to after long days hunting, and there was plenty of room for our truck and side by side to park right outside the doors to the cabin. My boys were totally comfortable, warm and had everything they needed for a successful trip - including the elk! I am sure they will be back!

My husband and I have been frequenting the White Mountains for 35 plus years. We love this area. When we were younger we trailered our horses and rode just about every canyon and trail in the area. When we had the opportunity to purchase this property we didn't hesitate.

Why they chose this property

This property is just what the doctor ordered for the average individual that loves nature and wants to disconnect from the busy city life.
