Please note: This property is situated on a working farm.. The gorgeous converted Railway Carriage is situated in the old orchard on our 300-acre farm surrounded by 100 acres of traditional wildflower meadows and ancient woodland that guests can enjoy. It is set in a tranquil orchard surrounded by Oaks and old pear, medlar, apple, plum and quince trees on a wildlife farm. Your neighbours are free-range chickens who lay delicious eggs. Crickets, grasshoppers and butterflies.
Inside the carriage, there is a comfortable double bed, two chairs and a small round breakfast table. Two wooden outside chairs a table outside the carriage and a lovely fire pit for cooking on. Battery-powered candles and lanterns. Close by to the carriage is a composting loo for your connivance. Please note that there is no power, you are truly off grid!
Jakes barn is a short walk from the bell tent where you can find more amenities including comfortable sofas next to a wood burning stove, ample tables and chairs for everyone as well as a fridge freezer, table tennis table, plugs for charging and a butler sink with hot and cold water, pots, frying pans, whistling kettle and saucepans tea, coffee sugar, salt and pepper. Adjacent to the barn is a gorgeous renovated horse trailer with two flushing loos and rustic hand-washing facilities. A shower shack with hot and cold water is behind the horse trailer.
We have Turtle doves, 23 Nightingale territories, several pairs of breeding barn owls that can often be seen hunting at dusk, tawny owls, kestrels, warblers and finches. We have recently found not only wild honey bees and bumble bees but also rare Long-horned bees foraging in our field-edge brambles. Grass snakes and slow worms are regularly seen, along with great crested newts and toads in the early spring. We have noted 26 species of butterfly around the farm and its woodlands to date. Marbled White are numerous alongside Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Small Coppers, Blues and Skippers. Grizzled Skippers were seen regularly until the last two summers giving rise to concern. Purple Hairstreak can be found in the tops of the oak trees. Other woodland butterflies include Silver Washed Fritillary and White Admiral. Dormice and Harvest Mice are regularly encountered.
