About this property

Angelo Villa

Discover Villa Angelo – a design-led stone retreat with a private pool, 4 en-suite bedrooms, and outdoor dining under the stars. Hidden in a peaceful village near Rethymno, this villa blends Cretan soul with modern comfort. Perfect for families or friends seeking slow, meaningful holidays in nature.

The space

Welcome to Villa Angelo — a soulful composition of stone, light, and design. Tucked away in the peaceful village of Kato Poros, this two-level villa from the Muses Premium Collection invites you to experience Cretan living at its most serene. Four en-suite bedrooms, a private courtyard with pool, and touches of heritage architecture make this a refined destination for families and friends in search of meaningful escape.

Welcome

Cross the iron gate and step into a private courtyard where textures speak louder than words. Smooth stone, climbing vines, blue sky. A discreet pool offers calm respite, bordered by soft surfaces and natural shade. Under the pergola, a generous dining table sets the stage for al fresco meals, while a stone-built BBQ and ping pong table turn lazy afternoons into lively ones.

Inside, the house speaks in a quiet, confident voice. Restored on 150-year-old foundations, its open-plan layout flows from one zone to the next with intention. The kitchen and living area are joined under a hand-carved stone arch — part of the original structure — with clean lines, muted tones, and elemental simplicity anchoring the design.

Internal Living

On the ground floor, two en-suite bedrooms are accessed from a short corridor:

Bedroom One: Entered through a sculpted archway, this room channels a minimal Eastern sensibility, with soft lighting and natural textures.

Bedroom Two: Opens directly onto the pool area — warm, sun-filled, with subtle terracotta details and a bathroom framed by a curved interior arch.

A staircase (interior and exterior access) leads to two more bedrooms:

Bedroom Three: A bright, treehouse-feel room with a private balcony overlooking olive groves. Peaceful, uncluttered, and calming.

Bedroom Four: The villa’s master suite. With its own fireplace, pool table, and two access points, it feels more like a private apartment. The bathroom features a preserved stone-framed window now repurposed into a mirror — an architectural echo between time and reflection.

All rooms include air-conditioning, quality linens, and thoughtful lighting — creating spaces that breathe and invite stillness.

External Living

Evenings extend under the stars, around the pool or by the old stone well, now artfully lit and preserved as part of the outdoor ambiance. Whether you’re playing a game, reading in the shade, or cooking local produce over the fire, the courtyard becomes your daily rhythm.

Location & Lifestyle

Kato Poros is a place that time has quietly skipped. There are no crowds, no gloss — just cobbled alleys, forgotten springs, and views that stretch past the village limits. Here you’ll find the abandoned Byzantine village of Nisi, hidden along a walking trail, and access to hiking paths and old gorges ideal for exploration.

When you’re ready to return to the coast, Episkopi Beach — with its long stretches of sand and tavernas — is a short drive away.

For a taste of village life, the local kafeneio “O Sarakas” is just around the corner, serving raki and conversation under the trees. And if you feel like staying in, several eateries in Episkopi Rethymno offer delivery right to your door.

We were met by the owner who showed us around the property and amenities. He was very kind and helpful. The kitchen is open plan and well appointed with pans, plates, cutlery etc, lovely coffee maker. There were plenty of extras as a welcome pack - bottle of wine, fruit, bread, croissants, honey, olive oil etc. It was wonderful

Why they chose this property

Villa Angelo is located in the small, traditional village of Kato Poros, surrounded by olive groves, gorges, and scenic walking paths. The area is known for its peaceful atmosphere, untouched landscapes, and rich natural beauty.

A short walk from the villa leads to Nisi, an abandoned Byzantine village with stone ruins, tiny chapels, and panoramic views—a hidden gem for history lovers and photographers alike. The area also connects to the Kollita Gorges, a network of green canyons ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and quiet exploration. These trails are easy to access and perfect for both casual walks and more immersive nature outings.

While the village feels secluded and calm, it’s only a 15-minute drive to Episkopi Beach, one of the area’s most relaxed stretches of golden sand, and 20 minutes from Rethymno, where you’ll find restaurants, shops, and cultural sites. There is no public transport in the village, so a car is highly recommended.

This location is ideal for travelers who want to experience authentic Cretan life, away from the crowds but close enough to the island’s highlights. It’s perfect for families, couples, hikers, and anyone seeking serenity, nature, and a slower rhythm of travel.

What makes this property unique

Villa Angelo is a beautifully restored stone house located in the peaceful village of Kato Poros, just a 20-minute drive from Rethymno. This two-level villa offers a unique blend of traditional Cretan architecture and modern design, ideal for travelers seeking comfort, privacy, and a deeper connection to the island’s authentic character.

The villa features 4 thoughtfully designed bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, ensuring maximum privacy for families or groups. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor—one with direct access to the pool area—and two are on the upper floor, including a spacious master suite with a fireplace and private balcony.

Guests can enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, an open-plan living area framed by a hand-carved stone arch, and a peaceful courtyard with a private pool, a shaded outdoor dining area, a built-in BBQ, and a ping pong table. Original elements like stone walls, arched doorways, and a historic well preserve the soul of the house, while curated interiors add modern comfort and understated elegance.

Villa Angelo is perfect for those who value slow living, local culture, and meaningful travel experiences. Whether you plan to explore Crete’s nature trails or simply relax by the pool, this home offers a welcoming space designed for true rest.
