A village of industrial heritage, Pontsticill is closely associated with the Brecon Mountain Railway, a steam locomotive tourist railway which operates as an attraction to visitors along the former Brecon and Merthyr Railway line, and Taf Fechan reservoir, constructed to serve the growing industry and population of the South Wales valleys in the 1920s.

Pontsticill also boasts two bustling, dog friendly pubs, situated minutes from the cottage, popular year-round with locals and visitors alike.

We highly recommend arrival by car due to our rural location, however a local bus runs several times a day between Pontsticill and Merthyr Tydfil, from where you can access trains to major UK cities.

We welcome cyclists with their own bikes and equipment, although local hire is available if preferred.

Beautifully clean and appointed, if a little over the top with nick nacks on every available surface. Make absolutely sure you have the door entry code and wifi code before you arrive - there's no mobile signal at all there and we had some stressful moments trying to gain entry in the late afternoon. Wifi pretty much only works in the living room, where it mainly powers the very unusual streaming TV setup. Coffee machine takes some figuring out. Lovely walks nearby, through the old burial ground and up to the reservoir. All in all it was better than we expected although an extra c.20% for a cleaning fee seemed excessive. Drive carefully on the way there, winding narrow roads.
