The Roseland Peninsula is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one of Cornwall’s most scenic and serene regions. A short drive takes you to the picturesque fishing village of Portscatho, known for its sheltered sandy beach, local galleries, and a traditional pub. A little further along the coast lies St Mawes, a lively harbour village with excellent dining, boutique shops, and the impressive St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII. From here, you can catch a passenger ferry to Falmouth, a vibrant town brimming with maritime heritage, shops, galleries, and waterfront eateries. Alternatively, take the scenic King Harry Ferry across the River Fal to visit Trelissick Garden, a stunning National Trust property with woodland walks and panoramic river views. The Roseland is also home to some beautiful and lesser-known gardens, such as Lamorran Gardens in St Mawes and the colourful Poppy Cottage Garden near Ruan High Lanes.
Explore inland to the village of Veryan, famous for its distinctive round houses and welcoming atmosphere. The surrounding countryside offers a network of peaceful walking trails and hidden coves waiting to be discovered. For a taste of Cornish culture, head to Truro, the county’s only city. With its magnificent Gothic cathedral, cobbled streets, independent shops, bustling markets, and wide selection of restaurants and pubs, it’s well worth a day trip.
Whether you’re walking along the coast, exploring historical sites, enjoying garden visits, or simply relaxing in your cottage garden, a stay at Penda offers the perfect base for an unforgettable Cornish holiday.
