Step into a piece of history at Peace Cottage, a beautifully preserved, whitewashed stone cottage in the heart of the picturesque village of Flamborough. Dating back to 1870 and rumoured to be built from the very stones of the ruined Flamborough Tower opposite, this charming property is bursting with original character – from exposed brickwork and ceiling beams to low doorways and a winding staircase. Inside, the spacious living area invites you to relax in front of the wood burning stove, with plenty of comfortable seating, two cosy window seats, a Smart TV with Netflix, and a rustic dining table. The kitchen, accessed via a low door, is well-equipped with an electric hob and oven, microwave, and dishwasher, and offers direct access to the garden. Upstairs, the master bedroom (with a zip and link bed for flexible sleeping arrangements) overlooks the historic tower ruins, while a twin room and family bathroom with bath and shower over complete the layout. Outside, an enclosed cottage garden brims with roses and colourful borders. A sunny patio offers outdoor seating and a fresh-water wood-fired hot tub beneath a pergola – the perfect place to relax after a day exploring. The cottage is pet-friendly too, welcoming up to two well-behaved dogs. But the real magic begins just beyond the garden gate.
Flamborough is a coastal gem steeped in history and natural beauty. A short stroll takes you to traditional pubs, fish and chip shops, and a well-stocked village shop. Pop into the local library for a good holiday read or simply soak in the laid-back atmosphere. Nature lovers will be in their element – grab the binoculars and head to Flamborough Head, home to dramatic chalk cliffs teeming with seabirds like puffins, razorbills, and gannets. Descend the steep steps into hidden coves to discover seals basking on the rocks or try your hand at fossil hunting. For more wildlife encounters, visit the nearby RSPB Bempton Cliffs, a globally renowned seabird haven.
For family days out, explore North and South Landing with their beaches and tales of smugglers, or visit the iconic Flamborough Lighthouse and enjoy a drink at the adjoining bar. Golfers have a choice of courses nearby, while culture seekers can head to Bridlington, with its sandy beaches, Victorian promenade, Bridlington Spa theatre, and leisure centre. Beyond Flamborough, discover Sewerby Hall, Burton Agnes Hall, Sledmere House, and the majestic Castle Howard. Both the North York Moors National Park and the rolling Yorkshire Wolds are within easy reach, offering endless cycling and walking opportunities. Historic York is just an hour away, perfect for a day trip filled with heritage and charm. Peace Cottage is the ideal base for coastal adventures and countryside escapes – full of character, comfort, and unforgettable views.
