About the host
Hosted by Claire Glendenning
I’m Claire and welcoming guests to The Residence is one of my greatest joys. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty, peace, and slower pace of the countryside. The Estate — and especially The Residence — reflects everything I love about rural living: space to breathe, beautiful views, and a home that feels warm and inviting the moment you walk through the door.
When I’m not hosting, you’ll often find me enjoying long walks in the local countryside, exploring nearby villages, or working on creative projects that keep me inspired. I’ve always enjoyed making spaces feel special — not just comfortable, but memorable. The Residence has been carefully designed to bring people together, whether that’s a big family gathering, a friends’ reunion, or a multi-generational holiday.
This property means a lot to me because it offers something truly rare: plenty of space for everyone to be together while still having quiet corners to retreat to. With four bedrooms (three en-suite), a spacious family bathroom with a jacuzzi, two fully equipped kitchens, multiple living areas, and a pool table, it’s as practical as it is beautiful. Every detail has been chosen to combine rustic charm with modern comfort, so your stay feels effortless. We also have two wood fired hot tubs outside so guests have plenty of space to enjoy.
As a host, my goal is simple: I want you to feel at home from the moment you arrive. I’m happy to provide recommendations, answer questions, or help make your stay extra special — but I also respect your privacy so you can enjoy your holiday in your own way. My hope is that you leave The Residence not only rested and refreshed, but with wonderful memories to take home.
Why they chose this property
I chose this area because it perfectly combines peace, beauty, and a true sense of escape with easy access to everything you might need for a memorable stay. From the moment I first visited, I was captivated by the rolling hills, open fields, and endless sky — it’s the kind of landscape that immediately makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. The air is fresh, the nights are quiet, and the views are breath-taking in every season, whether it’s golden summer sunsets or frost-dusted winter mornings.
It’s also an area with a warm, welcoming community and a wealth of things to do. Just a short drive away, you’ll find charming villages with traditional pubs, local farm shops, and friendly cafes. For those who love the outdoors, there are beautiful walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep, along with nature trails that wind through woods and meadows. Families will find plenty of attractions nearby, from historic sites to wildlife parks, while food lovers will appreciate the local produce and country dining experiences.
What truly makes this location special is the balance it offers — you can spend your days exploring, visiting local markets, or enjoying an afternoon at a cosy inn, then return to the tranquillity of The Residence to relax in complete comfort. For me, it’s the perfect backdrop for quality time with loved ones, far from the noise of city life yet close enough to discover something new each day. Although Durham City is just a 15 minute drive away.
I wanted a place where guests could experience all of this for themselves — the calm, the connection to nature, and the charm of rural life — without giving up modern comforts. This area delivers exactly that, which is why I knew it was the ideal setting for The Residence.
What makes this property unique
What makes The Residence truly unique is the way it combines space, flexibility, and style in one beautiful countryside setting. It’s rare to find a property that feels both spacious enough for a large group and intimate enough for everyone to feel connected, but The Residence achieves exactly that. With four generously sized bedrooms—three of them with en-suite bathrooms—a large family bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, and a separate lounge with a double sofa bed, there’s plenty of room for everyone to rest in comfort.
The layout is ideal for multi-generational families, group getaways, or friends celebrating special occasions. The two fully equipped kitchens make it easy to cook for a crowd or give different parts of the group the flexibility to prepare meals independently. Multiple living areas to ensure that there’s always somewhere to gather, laugh, and create memories together.
The design blends the character of a barn conversion—high ceilings, exposed beams, and warm natural textures—with the convenience and elegance of modern finishes. Every detail has been chosen to make the space welcoming, from the soft furnishings to the large windows that flood the rooms with light and showcase the surrounding countryside.
Outside, the peaceful rural setting offers a true escape from the pace of everyday life, yet it’s close enough to charming villages, local pubs, and walking trails to make exploring easy. It’s the kind of place where mornings begin with coffee overlooking the fields, afternoons are spent enjoying the space with loved ones, and evenings end relaxing in comfort, surrounded by the people who matter most.
The Residence isn’t just somewhere to stay — it’s a place to reconnect, celebrate, and make memories that last long after your visit.
