The Neighborhood:
The house is located in Rinsey a quiet coastal hamlet on the outskirts of Porthleven, a beautiful harbour town with many pubs, restaurants and galleries. A stroll along the cliffs will get you there, if you want to explore St Ives and Marazion, these are roughly 15 minutes drive.
Rinsey - is a lesser known Cornish beach, with loads of great assets (beautiful rock pools, gullies & caves to explore, as well as sandy safe swimming) but the car park gets really rammed so it’s a great to have this nearest beach on your doorstep and just a few minutes down the cliff path to get to it.
Praa Sands is an incredible mile of golden sand which is only a short walk West along the cliffs - and it has nice bars and great surf the Boatshed Activity Centre offers Surf Lessons and Coasteering excursions, as well as paddle board hire.
Wheal Prosper Mine is just on the doorstep too- It was a working mine between the years 1860-1866 and was intended to mine tin and copper from the Porthcew Lode. Today, you can admire the building’s most prominent feature, the 30″ pumping engine house erected on Engine Shaft. This was designed to pump water out of the mine.
Even today, the building is in excellent condition after being managed by the National Trust.
Visitors to this site can look forward to views across Mount Bay and down to Rinsey Cove. Walkers who are trekking along the South West Coastal Path can use Wheal Prosper as a spot to rest and relax with a bit of lunch. Whilst beachcombers can take the footpath down to the beach!
If you are travelling with a four legged friend there are no restrictions on dogs at Porthcew Beach (just down the road) so they are welcome on the beach all year round. The cliffs are high on the coast path around here so keep dogs on a lead when walking nearby. Rinsey Cove also makes a perfect spot for a wild swim on a calm day.
