About this property
Cotswold Country House | Perfect Christmas Escape
Tucked away in the heart of Charlbury, this exceptional home offers over 4,000 sq ft of beautifully crafted living space that balances modern comfort with relaxed country charm.
Spacious, light-filled rooms open onto landscaped gardens, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out, perfect for families, groups of friends, or guests seeking a peaceful countryside escape.
Inside, the house feels calm and welcoming, with natural textures, warm tones, and thoughtful design throughout.
Every bedroom is ensuite, and the layout flows effortlessly from sociable open-plan spaces to quiet corners for rest and reflection.
The kitchen and dining room form the heart of the home, a generous, open space designed for cooking, gathering, and entertaining. It features a well-equipped kitchen with a separate pantry and a large dining area that opens directly onto the gardens.
The drawing room is a wonderfully tranquil space, with large bi-folding doors leading onto a beautiful limestone terrace forming a natural extension of the house into the garden. A double-sided fireplace connects this room with a cosy snug, complete with piano, books, and soft seating for relaxed evenings by the fire.
A second snug offers a TV area and library, perfect for reading or family film nights.
Five ensuite bedrooms ensure comfort and privacy for every guest:
Two ground-floor bedrooms open onto private outdoor spaces, one to a sunny patio, the other to a secluded courtyard garden.
Upstairs, the master suite features Juliet balconies from both the bedroom and bathroom overlooking the gardens. The ensuite includes double sinks, a freestanding bath, walk-in shower, and underfloor heating.
A second upstairs double bedroom includes a dedicated workspace and ensuite with a galvanised bath and shower.
The third upstairs bedroom has its own ensuite shower room.
Additional features include a downstairs cloakroom, boot room, and full laundry facilities.
The gardens are beautifully arranged with mature trees, flowering borders, and inviting lawns. A large grassy area with climbing frame and swings makes this an ideal retreat for families, while outdoor seating areas provide perfect spots to dine, relax, and enjoy the fresh air.
A charming vegetable garden, enclosed by park fencing and edged with trained fruit trees, leads to a timber-framed Gabriel Ash greenhouse, offering a peaceful corner to unwind with morning coffee. A further courtyard garden, designed by Susan Dunstall, adds a touch of Chelsea Flower Show inspiration to this exceptional property.
Ample private off-road parking is available.
Guests have exclusive use of the entire house, gardens, and all amenities throughout their stay. Certain storage areas remain locked, but there is ample space for guests’ belongings.
The area Nestled in the picturesque Evenlode Valley, Charlbury combines village charm with a vibrant community and excellent local amenities. The town is home to friendly pubs, cafés, a deli, pharmacy, barber, library, Co-op with post office, and a selection of independent shops.
For dining, The Bull Inn and The Bell are local favourites, both celebrated for their welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful menus, and great local produce.
Charlbury offers plenty to explore, from riverside walks and rolling countryside trails to tennis courts, sports grounds, and a thriving cricket club. Each summer, the Wilderness Festival (walking distance from the house) takes place in the nearby grounds of Cornbury Park, drawing visitors from around the world. And for those seeking a little luxury, Soho Farmhouse is just seven miles away.
With its blend of natural beauty, culture, and Cotswold character, this Charlbury retreat is the perfect place to relax, reconnect, and experience the very best of the Cotswolds.
