A charming piece of York history, Merchants Yard is about five minutes walk from the station and conveniently situated for easy access to most of York's attractions. Stylish two bedroom accommodation for up to 4 guests, with private access and an outdoor entertaining space. Whether you’re looking for a convenient place to stay or a slice of York history, you’ll find it at Merchants Yard. Named after the merchant sailor whose smiling face greets you from above the main front door, the apartment is full of charm, with an occasional squeaky floorboard here and there and not a right angle in sight. The 1836 year of its birth can still be found in small details around the place. Merchants Yard is a 5 minute walk from the station, and with a following wind and an open window you’ll sometimes catch bits of station announcements and even the sound of an occasional steam train making its way through York. Merchants Yard is also only 15 minutes or so walk from the city centre, and in the opposite direction you’ll find the Knavesmire, famous for its horse racing as well as various events such as live music, beer festivals, hot air ballooning, car shows, running and cycling events, even the circus when it comes to town. A cinema and plenty of local bars and restaurants and cafes are just around the corner. As you come in from the street, down a traditional passageway of yesteryear, head on through the courtyard and up the metal staircase to your own front door. The spacious accommodation comprises two double bedrooms, a large open-plan living room, kitchenette and dining area, and a luxury shower room with a walk-in shower. Through a hallway, you’ll find a living room with a kitchenette which has everything you need to make breakfasts, light meals and snacks. That said, you may want to take advantage of those cafes and restaurants you’ll find on your doorstep. Everything from great coffee and cake to a varierty of world cuisines is just a few steps away. A couple of our local cafes do amazing breakfasts too. The living room itself offers two extremely comfortable three-seater sofas and a 55 inch Smart TV with Freely, so you know you’ll be relaxing in comfort. The large windows let in lots of light and are perfect for people watching while you unwind. Both double bedrooms are cosy and stylishly presented, with cushions and throws, plus plenty of hanging space. The shower room is very spacious, with a walk-in shower and complimentary toiletries. The outdoor courtyard really comes into its own in the warmer months, and adds to the sense of privacy you’ll find at Merchants Yard. Access is via a key safe, with check in at 3pm and check out at 11am. There is no onsite parking, but unrestricted late afternoon to mid-morning (free on Sundays) parking is available just around the corner. Self contained apartment with private access via key safe. Other things to note: Due to the layout of the property, it’s not suitable for guests with limited mobility or children under 12, and while we love animals, we unfortunately can’t accommodate pets. Please also note that the lower parts of the windows to the front of the property open outwards. Please open with care.
