Guest interaction
Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. We stop in once a day to ensure everything is still good. I am always available via the messaging section of the app, and can be on property in minutes.

Getting around
Parking is steps away just in back of the building. We are on every major bus route in the city, and simply strolling distance to all downtown has to offer.

Other things to note
In the summer, there is a large festival every single weekend. Our library is magnificent, and boasts the best genealogy department East of the Mississippi River (second in the nation, behind only Salt Lake City). The Barr Street Farmers Market every Saturday morning in the summer is a must see. You can be in the middle of everything in minutes.

Reminiscing
We really liked the convenience of the location to walking around the city. The size and parking was quite adequate. Bedroom, bed and sheets were nice. The beautiful wood floors were filthy dirty as well as the bathroom floor. The towels were not sufficient nor of very good quality especially for a five night stay. There wasn’t anything to use, dish cloth/brush to clean dishes.

Ft. Wayne visit
The rating would have been a 4 except for the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom is in serious need of remodeling. There is what looks like mould on the shower curtain, peeling paint, loose moulding, stains on the seat cover. The kitchen needs more supplies (no pot, limited plates), coffee would be required for a 5!

Walking Distance to Allen County library BUT...
We loved parking on-site and how close it was to the library but the apartment is in pretty bad shape and needs improvements. Paint flaking everwhere. We didn't think the sheet on the Murphy bed was clean and had to change sheets. Dirty dishes in dishwasher and the smell of mold inside was intense. Kitchen dishes and pots and pans were sparse. Front steps were downright dangerous and a better railing needed. The floors were dirty and when we walked around barefoot, our feet were black. As mentioned by the owner, the door lock was difficult to lock and unlock. Sugestion would be to name the various apartments and put a sign on the door. We had trouble figuring out which apartment was ours. Lighting was very dim. Many of these issues would be inexpensive to fix. On the positive side, the free channels on the TV were nice but next time, I think we would stay in a cheaper but more modern accomodation near I 69.

Show at Embassy
The location is excellent if you’re there for a show at the Embassy. Walking distance to many restaurants and the Embassy. We never drove once we arrived and parked. We received very detailed instructions for check in that were easy to follow. The room was fine. No major issues.

Good Location, needs updates
The space was clean and cozy. Small things like burnt out light bulbs, dead TV remote battery, loose tiles and only one roll of toilet paper detracted from the experience, but it did meet our needs.

About the host

I am an old house nerd who lives in downtown Fort Wayne with my wife and 3 wonderful children. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to take disheveled, ignored 100 year old homes, and restore them to their former glory. What a cool life when it turns out that you are really good at something you absolutely love to do. Please come and enjoy these treasures with us!

Why they chose this property

West Central downtown is a magical space where people with souls reside. Sure, you can grab a tan cookie-cutter spot out in the burbs and care about the lawn, but why would you? This is where history, art, and friends meet. The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.
The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes. On the south side, situated between West Jefferson Boulevard and the former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, exists a collection of modest, small-scale cottages arranged along narrow, tree-lined, brick streets. Many workers for the businesses and various industries stretching along the south side of the tracks resided in this area. The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.
