The Smithy comprises two adjoining holiday homes. Smithy Stables features a kitchen with a range-style cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, a utility with washing machine, and a living room with TV. Four bedrooms (two doubles and two twins) serviced by a ground-floor shower room and a first-floor bathroom. While The Old Smithy spans three floors, the living areas in the property consist of a kitchen/diner with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dining seating for eight, a sitting room with TV, and a lower-ground-floor games room with washing machine and pool table. The bedrooms consist of three doubles, one with en-suite shower room, and a twin, along with a bathroom. Outside, there is an enclosed courtyard and off-road parking. WiFi, fuel and power included in rent. Bed linen and towels are included. Two well-behaved dogs welcome, with a third one allowed on request. Sorry, no smoking. You’ll find a shop and pub within 0.1 miles. The Smithy provides a spacious and charming base for exploring Barnard Castle and the surrounding towns of Staindrop, Richmond, Darlington, and Durham. The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
