About this property
Large Georgian Country House, in rural location with great pubs and walks
Hazel Brow House is a beautiful period country house with antique marble fireplaces, high corniced ceilings and magnificent views. Well positioned in a private location, yet within the small village of Low Row in Swaledale, and within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We're surrounded by a maze of footpaths and brilliant walks plus a great Gastro pub 5 minutes walk away.
Come and experience an amazing break or celebration, the property and grounds are ideal for birthdays, private get togethers and exclusive, bijou weddings. We hold a wedding licence so get in touch to discus your special day.
The house comfortably accommodates 16 people in spacious, well proportioned rooms.
The sitting room, dining room and snug have open fires, comfy settees and a good supply of family games and books. The dining room is ideal for special meals and we have private chefs we can put you in touch with:- please message us fr details. The snug's a great place for a bit of peace and quiet and a good book but also has a smart TV so ideal for using as a 'gaming' or movie room' or for a musical interlude as there's also a piano. The kitchen is well equipped including Aga cooker and electric oven & hob, microwave, Quooker tap, dishwasher etc. The pantry has a second fridge and a freezer with plenty of shelf space and a 2nd Belfast sink. The boot room has plenty of space for outdoor clothing and equipment, laundry and drying facilities and can double up as a bar for entertaining if required. The spacious bedrooms are as follows
First Floor:-
Bedroom 1 with en suite and 2 single beds
Bedroom 2 faces south with fantastic views and a king sized 4 poster bed
Bedroom 3 has great views, twin beds which can be 'zipped and linked' to make a Super King sized bed and a day bed which can be used as a sofa or made up into a full size single bed (please let us know how you'd like this room configuring one week before arrival)
Bedroom 4 has a king sized double bed
Bedroom 5 can be either a Super King sized bed or twin beds
The 1st floor family bathrooms are designed for luxury bathing with roll top baths
Second Floor:-
Bedroom 6 can be either a Super King sized bed or twin beds
Bedroom 7 is a single room
Bedroom 8 has an en suite and can be either a Super King sized bed or twin beds.
The grounds consist of three patios, sloping lawns and a small securely fenced paddock to allow your dogs the freedom to roam. Please note, use of the hot tub is available as an optional extra, please message for prices. A private footpath leads down to the river where fishing is available in season. We've some great dark skies so if star gazing is something you're after, then why not book the hot tub, relax and watch out for shooting stars or make use of the outdoor firepit.
There's a garage where you can park a car or keep your bikes. We have a criss cross of spectacular walks and cycle routes right from the front door.
We’re within a ½ hr’s drive of England’s highest Pub and England’s highest Waterfall – all within a day’s walking distance for the fittest amongst us! The river Swale is England's fastest flowing river so you can imagine, we've lots of waterfalls as well as hills, fells, mountains and moorland to discover. Alternatively you could just make the most of the house and relax with a good book or enjoy a drink with friends or a barbecue in the garden.
We usually take short bookings all year round starting on Fridays or Mondays but can be flexible so check out our availability. Christmas and New Year are our most popular weeks so early booking is essential. We offer special overnight stays in December (up to Dec 24th) for Christmas celebrations
If you want something different during your holiday, chill out on an Alpaca Trek, book an Archery session or even ask about paddle boardng, Goat Yoga or caving!
Whatever you're looking for we're waiting to offer you some true Yorkshire hospitality!
*Entertaining at Hazel Brow is an option you might like to consider. We've played host to family reunions, wedding and birthday parties for up to 60 guests. Marquees can be hired through our partner organisations and erected on the lower lawn in the garden or below the house. Contact us if you're planning a major celebration!
We can also offer special interest holidays - please enquire for outdoor pursuits, dry stone walling, photography, spinning and woolly craft activity breaks.
Getting Here, Going Greener and Slow Travel, Make the journey part of your holiday!
Why not leave the car at home and come by train on the Settle Carlisle line to Garsdale Station (England’s Highest station).Book your seat on the Little White bus, over the Buttertubs pass, dropping into Swaledale, 1/2 hr's drive from the station. Order your supermarket supplies in advance

Why they chose this property
Hazel Brow House was a part of a small estate farmed by the family for the last 100 years. The house is amazing and was our family home for many years. It was originally a traditional 'long house' until 1860 when the spacious front rooms were added, leaving the cosy cottage for the farm workers and servants. In 2014 the property was refurbished and is now let as one house but the servants stairs, and special features still remain! It's a great house for family holidays, reunions, celebrations or corporate groups. There's a great restaurant at the village pub, loads of spectacular walks, waterfalls and scenic views.
What makes this property unique
The property stands on its own, enjoying magnificent views. It provides really comfortable, spacious, private accommodation with provision for cyclists and walkers including cycle racks and boot/coat drying facilities so you can make the most of the Dale.
