About this property
The Arts Barge
Summary:
Hosted by Super Host Sleepover Stays.
Stay in a one-of-a-kind boutique canal boat moored on the picturesque River Lea in East London, just a short journey to the city centre. Meticulously renovated by its art director owner, every inch of the boat is thoughtfully curated with designer furnishings and distinctive pieces by local artists, creating a beautifully styled atmosphere. Experience real canal life in this very unique, eco-conscious stay.
The Space:
As you step aboard, a set of small double doors leads you down a couple of steps into the main living quarters of the boat, beginning with a beautifully restored kitchen, followed by a dining and lounge space.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, air fryer, kettle, espresso machine, and all the essentials for preparing light meals. Please note that there is no cooker available. The dining area features a beautiful table with a green marble top, creating an elegant setting for meals or morning coffee.
Moving through the boat, the space opens into a cosy saloon, complete with a comfortable sofa, an armchair, and a TV, perfect for relaxed evenings watching Netflix, in a warm, softly lit atmosphere created by layered ambient lighting throughout.
Continuing towards the bow, you’ll find the sleeping quarters. The first cabin on the left features a raised double bed, nestled into a cocoon-like nook. Next is the bathroom, fitted with a shower, sink, and an eco-friendly compost toilet. At the bow of the boat, the main cabin offers a peaceful retreat with a queen-size bed and wardrobe space, creating a calm and comfortable place to rest.
Guest Access:
Guests will enjoy easy self check-in via a lockbox, so you can arrive at your convenience any time after the check-in time.
The Neighborhood:
Set along the peaceful waterways of East London, the boat is moored on the River Lea in Lower Clapton, one of Hackney’s most creative and characterful neighbourhoods. The area has a calm, almost village-like atmosphere, with scenic riverside paths perfect for walking or cycling. The riverside path connects you to some of East London’s most vibrant areas, offering a unique way to explore the city at a slower pace.
Lower Clapton is known for its strong sense of community, independent cafés, and creative energy, with a relaxed East London charm. Just next door to where the boat is moored is The Princess of Wales, a much-loved riverside pub overlooking the water, perfect for drinks, Sunday roasts, or an evening meal.
Despite its tranquil setting, the area is well connected, making it easy to reach central London and explore everything the city has to offer.
Getting Around:
The boat is well connected, making it easy to reach central London while enjoying a peaceful riverside setting.
Buses: Bus stops along Lea Bridge Road are just a 2–3 minute walk away, with frequent routes connecting you to Hackney, Stratford, Shoreditch, and central London.
Train (Lea Bridge): Lea Bridge Station is around a 5–7 minute walk from the boat. From here, trains reach Stratford Station in under 10 minutes, where you can access the Central and Jubilee lines, as well as excellent connections across London.
Overground: Clapton Station is approximately a 12–15 minute walk. From here, direct trains take you to Liverpool Street in around 15 minutes, placing you right on the edge of the City.
Cycling & Walking: The riverside paths right by the boat are perfect for walking or cycling, offering scenic routes into nearby neighbourhoods and parks.
Other Things to Note:
Staying on a canal boat is a unique experience, and while every effort has been made to ensure comfort, it does differ slightly from a traditional home or apartment.
Water usage: The boat runs on a freshwater tank, which typically provides around 100 minutes of usage. For longer stays (usually over 3 days), you may need to refill the tank. This is a simple process, done by connecting a hose from the boat to the nearby water point.
Kitchen: The kitchen is designed for light cooking. Please note that there is no traditional cooker/hob available and no dishwasher.
Bathroom: The boat is fitted with an eco-friendly compost toilet.
Electricity & appliances: Due to the nature of the boat’s power system, some appliances are adapted accordingly. For example, a rechargeable hairdryer is provided.
No washing machine: There are no laundry facilities on board.
Children: Children are welcome, but the boat setting (open water, compact spaces, and delicate furnishings) means extra care and supervision are required.
Respecting the setting: The boat is part of a peaceful riverside community. We kindly ask guests to be respectful and discreet, particularly when arriving, departing, and moving around the mooring.
Care of the space: The boat features carefully selected furnishings and design pieces. We ask guests to treat the space with care, as damages may result in replacement costs.
