About this property

18th-century timber house by sea bay near Umeå

You will be staying in a former granary from the 18th century, built of timber and moved here in the 1960s. The house is beautifully situated by a bay, just 30 minutes from Umeå. Here you can encounter moose, deer, sea eagles, and other wildlife. When darkness falls, you can see the northern lights dancing across the sky.

The log house offers authentic and timeless accommodation where history lives on in every corner. On the beach there is a small electric sauna that you can use all year round. The toilet is an outdoor toilet that can be used all year round and during the summer there is an outdoor shower to use. In winter, you wash with water from buckets – an authentic experience that brings you closer to nature.

The property is surrounded by nature, with the bay right outside the door. In the fall, you can pick berries and mushrooms in the surrounding forest. When the ice settles in the winter, the bay turns into a skating rink, perfect for walks and ski trips – conditions permitting.

Three kilometers away is the Kvarkenfisk restaurant by the fishing village, where you will also find a small fish shop and smokehouse with local delicacies. For shopping and culture, head to Umeå, which is 30 minutes away. There are several beautiful hiking trails in the area for day trips.

The charm of this little house lies in its simplicity and authenticity. Kristina brings the spirit of the place to life through every object, each steeped in history and poetry. Her delicate drawings of birds speak volumes about the connection to nature that is being (re)woven in this little corner of paradise, in complete serenity. Her warm welcome made us feel right at home, and we now know that her home is a little haven of peace where we can rediscover pure forms of wonder in a world that often unsettles us.
