About this property
Cottage by Lake Mälaren at Malmhuvud
On the small island of Malmhuvud, just an hour from Stockholm, a peaceful retreat awaits where you can relax completely on your own terms. Here you’ll find a place where nature takes center stage and where the stress of everyday life feels far away.
The property features two separate cottages, providing plenty of space to spend time together or retreat when you want some peace and quiet. Both have everything you need for a comfortable stay—and with private access to both the dock and the lake, it’s easy to enjoy the water whenever you like.
The cottages offer a nice balance between comfort and the natural surroundings, with a terrace that provides a first-class view of Lake Mälaren. From the bedroom window, you might spot a beaver swimming by, or a deer grazing while the many birds offer a morning serenade.
The hosts’ friendly little dog Bonnie also lives here; she runs freely on the island and loves to greet visitors with a wagging tail.
The well-maintained property stretches all the way down to the water, where you’ll find both a dock and a fire pit. There are canoes, kayaks, and a small dock boat that you can take out for dinner on the water. For those interested in sailing, there’s also the option to rent a 21-foot sailboat.
History and nature await in the surrounding area—with the Viking settlement of Birka and the World Heritage Site of Drottningholm within easy reach. You can hike along marked trails, fish in Lake Mälaren, or simply let the tranquility wash over you.
Please note: Since the cottage is located on an island with no permanent road access, it’s important to know the following before booking:
Getting Here: You park for free in a parking lot on the mainland, after which the hosts will pick you up and drop you off in a covered boat (a trip of 5 minutes) with space for your luggage. The hosts are available for boat transportation during your stay if you’d like to go on day trips. Transport to and from the island is free of charge.
Private boat: A small, open motorboat can be rented from the hosts for your own trips (no license required but you need some boat skills). A rowboat, kayaks, and canoes are included in your stay.
Accessibility: The island has natural, uneven terrain with trails but no paved roads. Getting in and out of the boat requires normal mobility, so the location is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or balance issues.

A beautiful wooden house with a large living and dining area and access to a terrace with a direct view of the water.
Three bedrooms where you’ll feel right at home.
And when it gets a little cooler, you can light the fireplace.
The hosts are wonderfully kind and helpful.
The house is located on an island. You have to park your car on the other side. You’ll be taken across by boat—whenever you want—and picked up again as well.
