About this property

A secluded 18th century 1 bedroom retreat set in 55 acres of meadows & woodlands

Bliss Cottage is a secluded 18th century, one bedroom retreat set in 55 acres of Meadows and Woodlands. It is a part of the Knock Grena Highland Estate. This historic property was the home of Scottish explorer James Augustus Grant. Bliss cottage was added to the big house for the men to enjoy their after dinner whiskey and smoke. It has been lovingly restored and boasts a four poster bedroom that is designed to give you deep peace and restoration, far from the noise, far from the hurry...

The space
When you walk through the doors of this cottage, you will be welcomed… Not just as a guest… But as a part of this land's living story. This part of the big house once served as the gathering place for gentlemen after dinner and has now become a gentle sanctuary for guests. Knock Grena is a place where the soul may feel it has come home. Bliss Cottage holds its silence like a gift. This is an historic Highland Hideaway filled with character and quiet power.

There is a well equipped kitchen, a large open parlor, dinning table, a library snug room, a four poster bedroom-The Highlander…and a bathroom that is serene and offers everything you need… with a chance to really feel the history in these walls that were built in 1750. The space invites you to disconnect from your screens and be part of the old unhurried ways.

Guest access
THE LAND

Knock Grena sits on top of the hill and is surrounded with 55 acres of land for your enjoyment. There is enough to do just walking the Woodlands. There is a sacred circle of trees planted ages ago, which we believe had spiritual meaning similar to a circle of stones. There is a pond and so much wildlife… deer, bunnies, badgers, so many birds, and we are honored to have a Scottish wildcat who roams Knock Grena and graces the land. You get the sense that this is a place that time stopped many centuries ago. We so encourage your exploration of this beautiful property

THE SURROUNDING AREA

Knock Grena is a private sanctuary on top of a hill however we are less than a mile away from the grocery store and downtown NAIRN. Nairn is characterized by its sandy beaches, mild coastal climate, and its history and heritage.

Nairn has all the traditional, small town charm with cafés, restaurants, and shops. There are prestigious golf courses that attract players from all around the world. Nearby is Culloden battlefield made famous by the Outlander series. But there are majestic castles and whiskey trails and award-winning beaches for combining both scenic beauty and cultural richness in a relaxed seaside setting.
We are located about 1 hour away from the Cairngorm Mountain Ski Resort and about 30 minutes away from Inverness, which is a starting point of the NC500 and the start of Loch Ness. This is a place where you can have a tranquil getaway in the Scottish Highlands.

This property was lovingly restored for eight years prior to it being made available for your enjoyment. It is the owner’s greatest hope that it becomes a second home for people from all over the world and that they leave a bit of themselves here so that they may return often. There are few places on earth with so much magical energy and positive vibration and we sincerely hope that you get a chance to become a part of it.

Other things to note
If you are a history buff, this big house was the home of James Augustus Grant who discovered the source of the Nile and is a prominent figure.
Also if you are an Outlander fan this home was built in the same period as Culloden and we are only 20 minutes away from the famous battlefield.
