About this property

Architect Hideaway Between Heath & the North Sea

Set within the protected landscape of Tranum Klitplantage, HIRA is an architect-designed house surrounded by nearly 3,000 m² of private natural grounds, with uninterrupted views across the dune heath.

From the living spaces and all three bedrooms, the landscape stretches out across heather, gorse, juniper and pine. There are no roads or neighbouring houses in sight. Just the heath and the changing light. Here, the landscape feels like the house’s largest room, and the wind, light and seasons set the pace.

Designed by Rasmus Bak of Baks Arkitekter, the house draws on Japanese building traditions and Scandinavian architecture. Its simple lines deliberately give way to the landscape, while black Shou Sugi Ban-charred timber, Douglas fir, natural stone and Harris clay tiles bring warmth and texture inside.

Terraces on both sides extend the house into the landscape, giving you places to follow the sun or find shade and shelter throughout the day. Red deer regularly wander across the heath directly in front of the house.

Within just a few kilometres, the landscape changes completely. To the west, Tranum Strand meets the North Sea with wide sandy beaches and marram-covered dunes. To the south, Fosdalen and Lien unfold through old beech forest, streams, wooden bridges and steep green slopes, while trails through heath and pine forest connect it all.

Four electric bikes are waiting at the house, making it easy to explore without getting in the car. Cycle for breakfast at a local micro-bakery, head to the beach for a swim in the North Sea, or ride through the landscape before lunch at Svinkløv Badehotel.

Or simply stay exactly where you are. HIRA was designed to make that feel like enough.

Our guests were incredibly happy with their stay. The house is fantastic, and you can tell that every little detail has been thought through (like the wonderful soap). They also really appreciated that there were bikes available to borrow. It’s a stylish house in absolutely stunning surroundings.

We had a fantastic time at this beautiful place. The house has been decorated with great care and attention to detail and exudes a sense of peace and coziness. Everything was in perfect order, and we felt welcome from the very first moment. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. Among other places, we visited Thorup Strand, where fishing boats are still hauled up onto the beach, and the impressive beach at Løkken with its many bunkers. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast at Dahl Luther and an unforgettable dinner at Svinkløv Badehotel.

We had some amazing days in Tranum. The house is truly beautiful, well-designed, and incredibly cozy—you can tell right away that a lot of attention has been paid to the details. The location in the middle of nature is fantastic, and it’s the perfect place to completely unwind. Everything worked perfectly, the house was spotless, and communication with the hosts was easy and pleasant. A big plus was having an electric car charger right on the property. We would definitely return to this house and highly recommend it to others.

This is one of the nicest holiday homes we've stayed in. The house is absolutely stunning, with beautiful architecture, carefully curated interiors, and a level of quality that feels more like staying in a high-end boutique hotel than a holiday rental. Everything was exactly as expected, and the house felt brand new. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, creating a calm, luxurious atmosphere throughout. One of our favourite moments was simply sitting in the living room, looking out over the dunes while deer quietly wandered past. It was incredibly peaceful and the perfect place to unwind. Anders and Bente were fantastic hosts - warm, responsive, and easy to communicate with from start to finish. Everything was on point, making for a completely seamless stay. We would happily return and highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a truly special getaway.
