This characterful cottage is ideally situated for exploring the unspoilt beauty of the Somerset levels. There are many attractions within easy reach, including the village of Barrington, which is just over a mile away and is home to Barrington Court, in the care of the National Trust. The small town of Langport (6 miles) has all you need when it comes to amenities, as well as offering boat trips down the river in the summertime and cycle hire for those wishing to get active. Within 15 miles is eclectic Glastonbury, where you can explore the vibrant streets filled with independent shops, visit the Chalice Well gardens or hike up to the Tor. The village of Street boasts the Clarks Village shopping outlet for a spot of retail therapy or simply unwind with a stroll from the doorstep over the old cart bridge where you’ll find lovely views of Burrow Hill and the levels.
Pull up to the private parking area and take the door into the kitchen, which is well-equipped for preparing your favourite dishes and has views over the water. There is a cosy snug with sofa bed and a bathroom, plus a sociable dining area ideal for leisurely family meals. Just next door is the inviting lounge, complete with electric wood burner effect fire and doors to the garden. This comfortable room is where renowned documenter of folk music, Cecil Sharp recorded traditional songs on his many visits to the cottage in the 1920’s. Head upstairs to the first floor when the day is done, where you can choose between the king-size bedroom and the pretty twin. There is also a handy separate WC on this floor.
The kitchen door leads around the side of the cottage onto a fabulous, raised terrace with glass balustrades and furniture, perfectly positioned for admiring the views. You can carry on into the garden from here, which can also be accessed via the lounge, and on across a generous expanse of lawn, leading down to the water’s edge (children to be supervised). Light up the fire pit and enjoy toasting marshmallows with the family.
