About this property

A spacious, dog friendly, country cottage with riverside walks and a pub nearby.

Wake up to sweeping river views, wide Somerset skies, and total countryside calm at The Cider House — a beautifully renovated barn conversion made for slow mornings, long walks, and cosy evenings by the fire. The Cider House is set within the peaceful hamlet of Stathe and enjoys breathtaking views over the River Parrett, across the Somerset Levels, and towards Aller — a historic parish recorded in the Domesday Book. Once used to store cider made from apples grown in the farm orchard, the property now blends its agricultural heritage with refined, modern living. This high-end two-bedroom holiday home has a warm, vintage country-cottage feel throughout and is ideal for guests travelling with dogs. With miles of countryside and riverside walks directly from the door, there’s no need to get in the car for daily adventures. Upstairs, making the most of the spectacular views, are two spacious super-king bedrooms. One of the beds can be configured as twin singles if required, offering flexibility for families or friends. Both bedrooms are fitted with curtains and blackout blinds for a restful night’s sleep. The bathrooms are heated and feature heated towel rails, with beautiful original elm floorboards adding character to the shower room.Downstairs, the house offers generous living and dining spaces designed for comfort and relaxation. The living room features a cosy log-burning fire and comfortable seating, perfect for unwinding after a day outdoors. The dining room is furnished with a beautiful oak table seating four, along with a discreet work area should you need to catch up on emails. The clean, newly fitted kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and includes a full-size dishwasher. The Cider House is fully self-contained, quiet, and private. Access is via secure double gates into the courtyard. There is ample safe, off-road parking available just around the corner from the property. Entry is via a key safe, with the code shared ahead of your stay. Stathe is a haven of peace and tranquillity, yet wonderfully well connected. Step outside and you’re immediately on the riverside footpath — perfect for morning walks with your dog. The Cider House sits directly on the Parrett Trail, offering scenic walks to the charming market town of Langport, or a shorter stroll to Burrow Mump, where you can reward yourselves with a pint at the dog-friendly King Alfred pub. There is also a village shop and many other pubs to choose from in the local area along with organic/raw milk available from the dairy farm down the road. Cycling in the area is excellent, and guests are welcome to borrow our bikes during their stay. We’re also happy to recommend reliable, good-value local taxi services if you’d prefer not to drive. We are a family with two boys living next door and are available to help throughout your stay if needed, while always respecting your privacy. If you’re travelling with a larger group, we also have another property on site — The Hayloft — which sleeps two additional guests.

A little about us…

I grew up in Devon on a traditional dairy farm, so the rhythm of countryside life has always been part of who I am. Fresh air, muddy boots, and wide open spaces feel like home to me.

I met my husband, who is Somerset born and bred, and this is where we’ve chosen to put down roots. Together we have two teenage boys, Freddie and Charlie, and as a family we love the outdoors — whether that’s long countryside walks, time in the garden, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings we’re lucky enough to live in.

Before running the holiday let, I worked as a nurse for many years — a career I’m incredibly proud of. Eventually, I felt it was time for a new chapter: something that would allow me to work from home, be present for family life, and spend more time walking my spaniel through the beautiful Somerset countryside that surrounds us.

Creating a welcoming space for guests feels like a natural extension of who we are — we genuinely love sharing this special little corner of Somerset and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

When we were deciding where to settle, Stathe felt like home almost immediately. Tucked away in the Somerset countryside, it offers the peace and space of rural life while still being wonderfully connected to everything we need. There’s a calmness here that’s hard to put into words — big skies, open fields, and a slower pace that encourages you to properly switch off.

One of the things we love most is being so close to the beautiful River Parrett. The riverside walks are stunning in every season — peaceful morning strolls with the dog, golden sunsets over the water, and the ever-changing wildlife along the banks. It’s one of our favourite ways to unwind and appreciate just how lucky we are to live here.

We’re also only a short distance from the charming market town of Langport. Its traditional independent shops are a real treasure — the kind of places where you’re greeted with a smile and can browse at your leisure. We’re truly spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs, restaurants, and cafés too, whether it’s a relaxed coffee, a cosy pub lunch, or an evening meal with friends.

For us, Stathe offers the perfect balance — peaceful countryside living with a vibrant and welcoming town just minutes away. It’s a special place, and we feel very fortunate to call it home.

What makes this property unique

We’ve designed our holiday let to feel like a true home away from home — but with a touch of added luxury. Every detail has been considered to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.

The bedrooms feature super-king beds with crisp, 100% cotton bedding, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a day exploring the Somerset countryside. The interiors are decorated to a high standard, blending style, warmth, and comfort, so that whether you’re relaxing with a book in the lounge or enjoying a morning coffee in the garden, you feel completely at ease.

From the thoughtful finishing touches to the spacious, inviting rooms, our aim is to create a retreat where guests can unwind, recharge, and truly feel at home — only better. It’s the perfect combination of homely comfort and luxury, making your stay with us both special and memorable.
