Villa: private beach/hot tub/sauna/canoe, near the zoo

This is our dream—our beautiful “cabin by the river” was completely renovated in 2018 and features all the amenities you could hope for.

Jacuzzi, sauna, large canoe (5.25 m, 3 people), 100 m² terrace, 7 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, dining area, large kitchen, 2 bathrooms, loft, etc. Go fishing from the terrace, swim at the beautiful beach by the river, and enjoy the large garden perfect for children and play. The area is located near the famous Dyreparken, the airport, Sørlandssenteret, and city centre.

Other things worth noting
This house was originally a farmhouse built in 1880, and we wanted to preserve its authentic atmosphere from that era without adding modern amenities and appliances—our goal was also to minimise our environmental impact on the local area.

The house uses clean, renewable energy and drinking water from a local lake, and it has its own natural wastewater treatment system. This makes the house less harmful to the ecosystem.

Inside the house, you’ll discover various works of art by local and international artists, such as Apostolos Chantzaras, Salvador Gonzales, and others. If you like any of it, it’s possible to purchase most of the items you see in the house; please contact me directly.

The ground floor has been mostly renovated with modern amenities. The second floor has remained more or less untouched since the 1970s, featuring a simple, traditional Norwegian cabin style.

The bedrooms closest to the road were upgraded with three glass windows and drywall in October 2023. People sensitive to noise should sleep in the bedrooms near the river.

In the winter, if you’d like the house preheated, please let us know so we can arrange it.
Electricity is an extra charge that can be paid through Airbnb after your stay.

A cleaning fee applies: 3000 kr. It can be paid via Vipps or through Airbnb’s payment option for additional costs. The cleaning fee is mandatory.

It’s also possible to paddle a canoe (3 people or max 400 kg) up the river to small islands, etc.

We recommend bringing your own bedding, but it is possible to rent it (additional fees apply)

Use of the hot tub: additional fees 1000NOK apply. Please note that if guests check out and new guests check in on the same date, the hot tub may not be at its maximum temperature upon their arrival.

Please be quiet after 11:00 PM; due to the topography of the area, sound travels very far and is amplified. Please be considerate of the neighbors.

The large beach further down the road is private but open to the public. Please note that you must take your trash with you. Thank you for keeping nature clean! :)

Fishing:
The Tovdalselva is the longest river in Southern Norway that still flows freely along its entire course. The house is located in Zone 3a, which allows fly fishing, worm fishing, and lure fishing. Local regulations apply. See the Topdalselva Homepage

Nearby:
Norway’s most famous zoo (Dyreparken), Sørlandssenteret, the airport, and city centre. Plenty of opportunities to swim right from the terrace and at the nearby beach.

Nearby activities:
1) Visit Birkeland.

2) Visit the magical Boen Farm and enjoy gourmet food—just a 3-minute drive away.

3) Visit one of the most beautiful and historically interesting churches in the south, Tveit Church. 5 minutes by car just south of the house.

4) Visit Norway’s second-largest tree. The Mollestad Oak. Estimated to be over 1,000 years old. A 5-minute drive just north of the house.

5) Take a walk around the area and spot horses, cows, sheep, and more.

6) Enjoy windsurfing or kitesurfing at HAMRESANDEN Beach, 10 minutes south.

7) Enjoy the Drangsholdt–Urdalen hike, which should take you about 4 hours, as recommended by the Norwegian Tourist Organisation (DNT). The trail is marked with a blue symbol throughout. It starts about 800 metres from the house.

Getting there and getting around:
10 minutes by car to the airport (Kristiansand Airport Kjevik).
10 minutes by car to the village of Birkeland.
10 minutes by CAR to Hamresanden Beach.
15 minutes by car to Dyreparken (the zoo).
20 minutes by car to Kristiansand City.
