About this property
Historic Baroque Palazzo w/Rooftop Terrace, City
Summary:
The road that connects Modica Alta to the Cathedral of San Giorgio is called Cala Iuso. Originally, this road was lined with shops selling all kinds of products, much like an open-air market. The Sicilian name for these small shops is 'putia'. We have recreated this part of the city within the building through the use of finishes, furnishings, artwork and fabrics.
This seductive palazzo has recently undergone a meticulous renovation that has preserved its traditional Sicilian Baroque design. In the heart of Modica's old town, you will find a rare private roof terrace and original tiled floors.
The 245 sq m house has four large bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, and all the bedrooms have direct access to private outdoor spaces.
The dining room features a large, round travertine table. The well-equipped kitchen boasts a five-metre-long island.
The Space:
Most of the furniture is locally produced, while some pieces are design classics from our Scandinavian heritage. During the renovation, we used local Pece stone for the indoor floors and Modica stone for the outdoor area. Several of the original Baroque tiled floors have been preserved.
Our mission was to restore the palazzo to the highest standard while retaining its charm and warmth — it's a place you'll never want to leave!
Guest Access:
You have a private acces from the street to the Palazzo. We will send you an personal acces code before your arrival.
The Neighborhood:
The house is located in a quiet street and there is free parking just outside only 1 minute away for San Giorgio Cathedral.
Getting Around:
Catania Airport is an hour and a half away, with several modern, air-conditioned buses connecting you directly to Modica city centre daily.
If you are coming by car you have direct highway from Catania, which is both safe takes you an hour.
The train station is a 15-minute walk away, and you can travel to some of the other Baroque cities in the area from there. Please visit Trenitalia for more information.
Other Things to Note:
The roof terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a drink while taking in the historic city centre views and listening to the San Giorgio Cathedral bells. There is also a small but comfortable TV room with a 75-inch screen for watching films.
The kitchen comes fully equipped with a Miele fridge-freezer, oven, induction hob, dishwasher and washing machine. Both the dining room and kitchen have a great sound system that you can easily connect to via the Sonos app. The fibre connection provides very fast internet throughout the Palazzo and outdoor areas.
