About this property

YEAR-ROUND Private, Cozy Lakeside Cabin. Beautiful Views, 2 Boats, Kayak & Canoe

Quintessential red cabin nestled among the trees on 5 acres of property on clear Lookout Lake - perfect to get away, relax and appreciate being up north year-round. Paddle boat, fishing boat (no motor), canoe/paddles and kayak/paddle are included in your stay during the summer months! Just 15 minutes from the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Biking trails!

There is no cleaner for the cabin, which saves you on cleaning fees and allows you to check-out later than usual! Your ability to "leave it as you found it" is fundamental to maintaining lower cost and a healthy space for the next folks looking to enjoy a peaceful time at the cabin. This includes cleaning the cabin before you check-out and taking care of any laundry (as applicable). A check-out checklist and cleaning supplies are provided for your use.

The cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom. There is both air conditioning and heat to keep you comfortable no matter the temperature outside. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, electric stove, small appliances (microwave, toaster, crock pot etc), pots/pans, dishes and utensils. Guests have access to the entire property: the cabin, a shed with yard games/lawn chairs etc, and a carport. There are 5 acres of property to explore, a long driveway and 2 mile dirt road for peaceful walks, a private boat landing and dock as well.

As noted, there is no cleaner for this cabin. While bed linens as well as bath, kitchen and a couple beach towels are available for guests' use, guests may also bring their own. Please note that bath towels are not allowed outside of the cabin. If you use the provided linens and/or towels, we ask that you wash and dry them, return towels to where you found them and re-make the beds. If you use your own linens and/or towels, you can just fold and store the provided linens/towels in the marked bins under the bed during your stay and return/re-make the bed before checking out.

For your enjoyment, the cabin has a variety of card/board games, books and puzzles, a smart TV and DVD player, with a wide selection of DVDs, and is set-up with WiFi internet (which is strong enough should you need to work from the cabin during your stay). There a washer and dryer within the cabin for your use (detergent and dryer sheets provided) - excellent for washing and drying swim suits and beach towels after a day out on/in the lake!

If you're looking for fun, food and entertainment outside of the cabin, the Deerwood, Ironton and Crosby areas are just a quick 10 minute drive away, Emily is 20 minutes and Brainerd is only about 25 minutes away. You can find great restaurants, bars and breweries, unique shops and antique stores as well as recreational activities such as golf (including Cuyuna Hills Country Club and Ruttgers Resort), tennis, biking (Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trails are especially close), 4-wheeling and kayaking/canoeing/biking/snowshoeing rentals. The area has many festivals, events and activities throughout the year! There are numerous things to do in the spring, fall and winter as well - hiking, fishing, corn mazes, snowmobiling, fat tire biking and snowshoeing on the Cuyuna bike trails and ice fishing to name a few! My family and I live in the area and we would be happy to provide recommendations for places to eat/visit during your stay!

During the summer months, enjoy swimming, fishing, the fishing boat (motor not incl), paddle boating, kayaking (1 kayak & paddle incl), canoeing (canoe and paddles included in your stay), playing yard games, relaxing in the hammock, sipping coffee on the dock, roasting brats/making smores, taking walks down the long drive way. There is a private boat launch on the property if you want to bring your own boat to use on the lake (or the numerous surrounding lakes). The nearby towns offer numerous options for dining, shopping, drinks and activities, including the renowned Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Biking Trails, the mining lakes (for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming etc), hiking as well as the off-roading trails further north in Emily.

During the winter months, enjoy ice fishing, ice skating (shovel provided if you want to clear an ice rink on the lake), snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or fat tire biking on the mountain biking trails! The Cuyuna Lakes area is just as beautiful and adventurous to explore in the winter as it is the summer!

Don't forget Spring and Fall! Beautiful colors and crisp evenings (with fewer bugs!) make for great bon fires, hikes and spins around the lake!

Great little getaway

The cabin is adorable and a perfect little place to stay for some peace and quiet. It was well stocked with everything you need for cooking. The view was great and although the weather was too crummy to be outside, the view of the lake was lovely. There was a nice assortment of games and tons of old dvds to choose from as well as a smart tv. My only complaint is the driveway was a bit rough with all the mud but the owner warned us before we even came and not much he can do about the weather. We would definitely stay again.

Fantastic Minnesota Lake Cabin!

Dan's cabin is the quintessential Minnesota lake property! Just about perfect in every way. The cabin is a good deal away from the neighbors and the lake is quiet- incredibly refreshing. The nearby towns of Crosby and Ironton are also a great resource with great dining options. Excellent winter and summer activities nearby as well, including mountain bike trails that are great for hok skiing and snow shoeing. A wonderful place to get engaged, too! Thanks, Dan!

Perfect way to celebrate our 30th anniversary

This place was exactly what we were looking for! The house is clean and well maintained. Host replies within 10 minutes. The ONLY suggestion i would make to others staying there, bring a thick pillow top mattress pad, the beds are hard. Most definitely will stay again!

Perfect getaway

The cabin is tucked back in the woods, and had a great view of the lake. We could hear the neighbors, but only to tell they were there. We were able to take our paddle boards out on the lake a few times. The proximity to both Crosby/Ironton as well as Baxter/Brainerd gave us plenty of opportunities to run for supplies, take in a movie when it was raining and paddle the mine lakes at Cuyuna State Rec Area. The Cabin had a few maintenance items that needed to be addressed, I was able to take photos and alert Dan without issue. It is not a big fancy Lake house, but for this family of 4, it is what we needed to escape for a week... The beds did leave something to be desired, but we all have our own tastes, so I hardly feel that is something to complain about. I would for sure look at renting here again in the future.

Relaxing getaway for all!

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage! It’s cozy and has everything you could need! The lake is pretty clear, and we were greeted almost every morning with the sight and sound of two loons. In the evening, they’d also swing by for a quick visit! This property is very private! Thank you to the owner for great communication and for being very helpful! We made wonderful memories!

Serene little gem!

If you are looking to escape the busy hustle and bustle life, this is it. Adorable cabin that sits right on a private lake. Can’t see or hardly hear the neighbors. Beautiful setup with everything one would need. The host is absolutely amazing and responds very quickly if you have any questions. We were able to see a huge snapping turtle, watch and listen to trumpeter swans, plus loons daily. Very relaxing!

Excellent Cozy Winter Getaway

We wanted to get away from the twin cities for a couple of nights to do our annual Lord of the Rings watch. Dan's cabin had the perfect peaceful atmosphere we were looking for! The surrounding area is relatively remote and very pretty. The cabin is well-furnished with blankets, ample dinnerware, classic board games and so many dvds. There's a cute little guestbook log that we had a great time flipping through and writing in. Water pressure and heat were also great. I am assuming the property uses well water, but there is virtually no "well" taste. The lake was still frozen while we were here, but we braved a few short trips through the ankle-deep snow to appreciate it. The view combined with the utter silence was majestic. The host was extremely responsive when I left my hat and scarf at the property and realized it at the end of my 2½ hour drive. My winter gear is on it's way as I type. Seriously can't recommend this place enough.

Best Cabin Ever!

This cabin is spacious and spot on from what the pictures show and what is described. We slept great in the bed, despite other comments mentioning the mattress was uncomfortable, and the temperature at night in the main room was perfect. The surroundings are beyond peaceful and you truly do feel secluded when you are here. Great options of games, movies and pretty much everything you could need from a cooking standpoint. We were able to log into Max and watch some TV shows which was also great. We enjoyed a nice campfire outside and got some beautiful snow while we were here! It would be great to come back in the summer time and be able to utilize the paddle boat, kayaks, etc but still an amazing time. The area of Crosby and Deerwood is great and we did some exploring too. It was tough to leave!!! We will be back for sure.

Cozy Ironton cabin

This was a small, cozy cabin on a quiet lake; our visit luckily happened to occur at the peak of fall leaf colors, and we were blessed with beautiful weather. The cabin's kitchen has all items you'd need for cooking, there is a fire pit and several boats you can use in season, and a lovely view of the lake.

We came for mountain biking

This is a cozy cabin right on the lake. There is a door between the bedrooms (adult bedroom facing the lake, and what could a childs bedroom with bunk beds.) I wish I had known about this place when my children were younger. Internet was good, DVD and book selection were great. As it is, my wife and I came up for mountain biking in the area. Served as a perfect base camp for that. My in-laws enjoyed the lake and caught a perch from the dock. It was too windy to use the rowboat the weekend we were there but they had a rowboat, canoe, and kayak available. At the rate charged we feel it was a win/win situation. Please note that they generously have a late checkout but do expect the lodgers to do laundry and clean up before leaving, or you can bring your own sheets. Seems like a fair deal for no cleaning fee.

Little red cabin 15 min.from so many UP NORTH fun activities.

Mostly secluded cabin in the woods but close to fun like moutain biking, kayaking, ice cream shop, and breweries. So much to do. But spent much of the time at the cabin relaxing outside, playing yard games, having bonfires, and paddling on the lake. Just what we needed for R&R.

Mom

This cabin is ideal for anyone that wants to unplug, unwind and enjoy the peace the space brings. The cabin sits just feet away from the water which allowed my teenage children access to the canoe. The host didn't miss a beat with amenities, we had everything we needed. Location was highly remote and yet close enough to neighboring towns that allowed us to take advantage of other outdoor activities. Host was responsive and flexible with adjustments in our stay. Would highly recommend this space.

We loved our stay. It was a lovely private spot The place was very comfortable and well maintained. Because guests are expected to clean up, wash the sheets, etc, people seem to take that seriously, and the place was in great shape.Daniel was a great host and very responsive to questions or requests. If you want to ride bikes, Cykel bike shop in town is a great resource

My family and I moved to the Cuyuna Lakes area in the summer of 2020 and have thoroughly enjoyed living in this area! We would love to share recommendations for places to eat or local activities.

Why they chose this property

This cabin is our own little slice of up north heaven. We purchased the property in 2017 with the goal of providing an up north retreat for other families. We did so for the summers of 2018 and 2019 and our guests had a blast - fishing, boating, roasting marshmallows and enjoying the great outdoors. In the summer of 2020, my family and I actually moved into the cabin until the fall of 2021, when we moved to nearby Deerwood. The time at the cabin was illylic - swimming off the dock with the kids after work, meals out on the patio while listening to the loons long walks on the driveway and dirt road. This cabin will offer you a chance to disconnect from the many distractions of everyday life and connect with yourself, your family and nature. We hope others enjoy this little red cabin as much as we do!
