About this property
Leaning Pine: A Quiet Lakefront Cottage
(Permit: PSTR 24-043) Charming Leaning Pine cottage on Bass Lake with sunset views, just minutes from Interlochen Center for the Arts. Two bedrooms. Sleeps two in the master and four in the guest or use our "bonus room" space. This home has been lovingly preserved and decorated to retain the 1950s lake cottage feel. Bass Lake is ideal for swimming, kayaking, fishing, or just quiet reflection. Public boat launch is straight across from us. Nicely wooded lot for that true "up north" feeling. Traverse City, Old Mission/Leelanau wineries, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Frankfort are each about a half-hour drive.
We've added a lovely bench swing that faces the lake, between two tall pines; sit there in the morning with coffee for a slow "wake-up" or in the evening with wine to enjoy the sunset.
"We really enjoyed our week at this rental. The lake is quiet and great for fishing and kayaking. With the row boat, kayaks, fishing poles and grill included you can start enjoying the lake and outdoors immediately. The lake is shallow and safe for kids and dogs to swim. The description and photos are exactly what you get, no dishonesty or deception. Everything was great." -Mark, Clarkston, MI

We loved our recent stay on Bass Lake in this adorable 1950's era cabin. It was the perfect place to visit family on nearby Green Lake and to rest, recreate and recharge -- with a great location near Interlochen, Traverse City and more. The hosts were kind and responsive and the neighbors friendly. We loved using the rowboat, kayaks and dock - especially visits from a mother duck and ducking and beautiful loons and woodpeckers.
Unreal northern paradise wish I could keep it secret
We had an unreal time fishing and boating, letting the pup swim, kind neighbors but quiet, great location. Very aesthetically pleasing and simple process. Has cornhole, firepit, dock, and all the fixings. Such a gem, one of my top top northern MI rentals. Thanks for such a fun trip for a new engaged couple, and their best friends. Beautiful pines, loons, and location was prime for us.
Our stay was perfect. Though we are very familiar with this lake, the views of it from this property is stunning. If your weather happens to be a little on the wet side, no fear, the large window with two comfy swivel chairs is the perfect place to sit and take it all in. The eagle across the lake peeks out and adds to the excitement.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leaning Pine. The clean accommodations and well-stocked amenities make for such a comfortable experience. The property is beautiful and makes for a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I would absolutely return.
What a perfectly quintessential "Up North" lake cottage -- a gorgeous spot on a peaceful lake and a great mix of classic 50s nostalgia sprinkled with modern comforts. We left rested and rescharged after a couple of days of slowing the world down at this sweet little spot.

So glad you enjoyed your time at Leaning Pine, our bit of heaven on earth. It really is ALL about relaxing. We hope to have you visit again.
The lake is small enough that you don't get power boats but big enough too enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking, etc. Nice and quiet. House was clean with everything we needed. Friendly neighbors. Interlochen is right down the road.
Everything about Leaning Pine can be described as wonderful! The cabin, the property, the amenities, the view, the location. Our family enjoyed every minute! The only downside was that we couldn’t stay longer. Thank you to the owners for allowing our family to enjoy such a beautiful and peaceful place. We all needed a peaceful break from the daily routine and this was perfect!
Sun, sand, starry skies and peaceful waters...ahhh. We relaxed and recharged from a hectic city summer every minute of our three-day stay here. Loved the retro feel and modern amenities of this comfortable, cozy, well-stocked and quiet home. Host was communicative and we appreciated the notes about nearby restaurants and attractions. Thank you for helping us make some great memories!
What a wonderful day children were born up there and I wanted to bring them back where they were born and what a perfect cabin a perfect it like to stay on. We all had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much. It was so wonderful.
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage on Bass Lake. The cottage was clean and had a great sandy beachfront. We enjoyed using the rowboat and the raft. It was nice to have a cottage that would allow two dogs. They both had a great time playing fetch in the water. I would highly recommend renting this home if visiting the Interlochen area.

City boy met farm girl and ended up with a lake house for fun. We love sharing our peaceful haven with others.
Why they chose this property
While on vacation ourselves ten years ago we spied this gem for sale. It's simple, it's comfortable, it's quiet. We love it for our own family vacations in the summer and are happy to share it with you. "This is our second year renting this property and we are just as happy as we were last year! The cottage is just the right size and has everything we needed. The fishing was good and we caught bass, perch, and sun fish. Close enough to all the spots we enjoy visiting but remote enough to feel private and peaceful." -Mark, a happy guest
What makes this property unique
If you enjoy sitting in an adirondack with coffee and a book, fishing off a dock, or kayaking across the lake to gaze upon flowering water lilies you will love Leaning Pine. Of course, the swim raft and cornhole game provide opportunities for more activities. "Our family really enjoyed our stay at Bass Lake. The cottage was well stocked and we loved the vintage vibe. The dock, swimming dock, kayaks, rowboat, fire pit, cornhole game and nice sized yard provided lots of opportunity for fishing and fun. Would have loved having more time to stay and hope to return!" -Jennifer
