House not well- maintained and owners are dishonest

I 100% discourage potential guests from renting this house. And I caution anyone who does that the home is not well-maintained and downright dangerous. It has electrical and plumbing issues, and the owners have no problems pinning these issues on the guests. In addition to some minor issues… a fallen towel rack and an uncomfortable, creaky bed, we experienced a major issue as we were packing to leave on the the last morning of our trip. As a family member upstairs was using the shower, I saw water falling from the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom. It was actually streaming through the two recessed lights above the bathtub. I immediately ran upstairs and notified the person showering, and they turned off the water. There was no water outside the tub/ shower, and the curtain was correctly closed. It was quite clearly an issue with the tub/shower or it’s liner. And it was evident from downstairs that serious water damage had occurred. Nonetheless, upon letting the owners know, there was no sense of urgency, and I received no apology. Rather, they responded that this same thing had happened once before when someone upstairs hadn’t properly closed the curtain while showering. I had a hunch then that this would be their angle with us, too. Knowing that the water/electricity combo is dangerous and the downstairs bathroom lights shouldn’t be used, I instead went to open the blinds so we could have some light in the bathroom as we packed up and got ready to leave. As I turned the rod to open the blinds the entire window treatment came tumbling down. Aggravated and thankful that we were leaving that day, I reported that last issue and received no response, no acknowledgment or apology for our trouble or for the state of disrepair the house was in. Instead, when I reached out to find out when we would be getting our refund, I was told that they had never had a guest with so many issues during their stay, and the implication was that the deposit would be withheld. This experience was frustrating and disheartening. Not only did we do our best to keep the owners informed diligently and promptly of the numerous issues that arose, but we also tried to be gracious and understanding, overlooking the problems as much as possible. In summary, do not stay here. Overpriced, not well-kept and the owners have no scruples when it comes to pinning the issues on the guests.

Response from VrboOwner on 28 December 2021
We have owned and rented our home for 7 years on VRBO and several other platforms and have nothing but 5 star reviews from our guests. In fact, most of our guests are repeat guests or referrals and many have even become friends. This guest was the absolute worst guest and experience that we have ever had as owners. Situations like this make you want to stop renting out your home altogether. I should have known this guest was a red flag when I emailed them a welcome letter and all of the check-in information and never even got a response. That has never happened with the hundreds of prior guests that we have hosted. They stayed in our house Thanksgiving week and I received texts with issues every single day of their stay except one. All of these messages were responded to and handled within 5 minutes of receiving the texts. We have all of the text messages which show a response within minutes and an apology for any inconvenience. The guest’s insinuation that we didn’t respond and apologize for their issues is a bold faced lie. Our house was inspected by our cleaners and a maintenance supervisor the morning of their arrival. There were no issues with the house prior to their arrival! The night they checked in they complained that a light bulb was blown and they had knocked down a towel rack in the master bathroom. I immediately apologized for the inconvenience and let them know where we kept the extra light bulbs. They asked me how they should handle the towel rack and I asked them to please put it in the cabinet and once again apologized. There are 4 extra towel hooks in the bathroom so didn’t think this was a major issue. Then on Thanksgiving Day they text me to tell me that their kids have locked themselves out of not one but both upstairs bathrooms and how can they get back in. I responded immediately telling them how to use a small screwdriver or similar tool to get back in. This was conveniently omitted from the guest’s review and at the time led me to believe that they had unsupervised kids destroying my home all week. Again, we have all of the text messages that back this up. At this point, I am so ready for this family to leave my home. On the morning of check out, the guest texts me to tell me there is water flowing from the upstairs bath into the ceiling of the master bath. There is no way the water could just be flowing down without either flooding the tub or not having the shower curtain properly closed. This did happen once before when kids used the shower and didn’t tuck in the shower curtain. Since I already know they have kids that have locked themselves out of 2 bathrooms, it stands to reason that the kids have also flooded the bathroom. We had our maintenance guy over the day they checked out and he ran the showers and there were no more leaks. When this happens I am just so glad they are checking out. Next thing I know they are calling me to tell me the blinds have just fallen down in the master bath. There is no way the blinds just fell down! We actually lived in our home for months during covid and had no issues whatsoever and make sure it is thoroughly maintained. At this point, she also chooses to tell me that after sleeping in the master bed for a week she found it uncomfortable. We have a very high end iComfort mattress that always gets rave reviews from our guests. Our cleaners inspect the house with each turn and we have a detailed monthly maintenance inspection. We have also had hundreds of guests and never had any maintenance issues like we experienced with this family. At this point, we are left approximately $400 dollars of damage for the blinds in the master bath. There is no leak, water damage or safety issue in the master bath as implied by the guest. They simply have no idea what they are talking about. This was confirmed in the maintenance inspection post checkout. In 7 years, we have only withheld a guest’s damage deposit one time and they acknowledged the damage their children did. In all honestly, we wanted to be rid of this guest forever and decided not to report the damages to VRBO. This guest, however, did not realize she did not actually pay a damage deposit to VRBO and started harassing me to refund it to her. She sent me very rude text messages telling me I should be ashamed of myself and that I was unethical. All the while, I didn’t have any money to refund her. I hope no other owners will rent to this guest, unless you want the worst guest you have ever experienced and to be left with hundreds of dollars of damage and harassment. This guest has zero respect for other people’s property or their time.

Convenient, comfortable property; hospitable owners

Our recent family vacation stay at Emma's Dream was such a treat! The property's proximity to the beach and two pools set the stage for our family of 9 to spend plenty of quality time in both places. The house was clean, attractive and well-furnished with everything that we could possibly need to make our stay pleasant. Even with 2 babies and 7 adults, everyone was able to find space for important "alone time" when it was needed! We found it spacious and comfortable with plenty of seating and sleeping area. The screened in porches were definitely favorites! I cannot say enough about the friendliness and professionalism of the owners. They truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to assure that we had everything we needed. We have never experienced such true hospitality from vacation rental owners. That alone is enough to make us rent from them again if/when we return to the Seagrove area. The doughnuts they sent on the first morning were a perfect example. Before, during and after our stay, they were available and truly cared if we enjoyed our trip. This property is the kind that you'd want to revisit and the owners the kind of folks you'd want as friends.

Great stay at Emma's Dream!

Our family had a fantastic stay at Emma's Dream! The house was beautiful, very clean and located in a great neighborhood. The kitchen was well-stocked with all necessary cooking utensils. The house also had a large sitting area in the kitchen/den so everyone could comfortably hang out and talk while in the same room. The beach was a very short walk down the street, and the heated pool was perfect for this time of year. We would definitely stay at Emma's Dream again. Thanks for making our vacation so enjoyable!

Emma’s Dream is the perfect getaway !

Emma’s Dream was the perfect getaway! It's a short walk to the pool & beach. The mornings were a little cool, but the heated pool was a great surprise. We cooked several full meals and enjoyed the gas grill. There’s plenty of room for a large family. It was so nice to have a screened porch & rocking chair for my mom. The owners have thought of everything! Our favorite places to eat were Stinky’s and Louis Louis! You must rent a bike & enjoy the nearby scenery and shops. I can’t wait to come back for some more R&R!!

Absolutely delightful!

I stayed here with a couple of friends for an autumn girl trip getaway, and I immediately felt at home. Very comfortable, tastefully decorated and nicely stocked with all the needed kitchen essentials. It was roomy, spacious and very clean. We each had our own space to retreat to, but could also easily hang out together in the kitchen and living room area. Would be perfect for families, too!

Great spot in Seagrove

I have been staying at Emma's Dream since 2015. The location and property are a perfect vacation spot. I love the upstairs porch and the amount of room for everyone to have their own spot. I am a neat and tidy person, so knowing this property is always clean, helps us all relax so much more. Jennifer and Roy are great to work with. They go above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful. You are about a 3-5 minute walk to the beach among the tree lined streets. The pool is about a 2 minute walk, where you will find a restroom. This location provides you a great place to run and walk without being in traffic. You have to check out the sunrise by the Eastern Lake beach access! You are about 3 miles to Seaside. There are numerous restaurants within walking and/or biking distance. We checked out a new restaurant during this last stay...Grayton Seafood Company. It was a nice surprise and very delicious. Great Southern, Cowgirl Kitchen, Hub, Buddy's Seafood Mkt, and Surfing Deer are all time favorites. You won't be disappointed when staying at Emma's Dream.

Our favorite place

We have stayed in several places in the Seagrove area and this is our new favorite. What a cute neighborhood! Everything about it was perfect. The location is great with easy access to dining, shopping, and all the busyness of Seaside, but still feels like a fairly private get away. Easy access to the beach. The pool area was great for our little ones. The house was super clean and just wonderful. We will be back!

Beautiful house near the beach

We loved our stay at this beach house! It was perfect for our multi-family getaway with friends. The second upstairs living area was great for the kids while the adults enjoyed the main floor living room. The location is perfect - a short walk to the beach or the pool, lots of restaurants & shopping nearby, while still in a quiet community. The house was fully stocked, from linens to kitchen appliances and is beautifully decorated. We can't wait to go back!!
