About this property
Awesome Yurt In Southeast Utah Near Canyonlands
This yurt is 24 feet in diameter and beautifully furnished. It can comfortably sleep 6, with a comfy queen sized bed, full sized futon, twin sized pullout and single size couch. It is in the heart of outdoor adventure land. From rock climbing to hiking, mountain biking, finding ancient ruins, to just relaxing and disconnecting from the stresses of everyday life for a while, the YURT is a true escape from a normal vacation. Linens and cleaning are done before and after each guest, however we ask that guests help pick up and remove their trash and tidy up before leaving. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a conventional propane oven and stove. Imagine cooking a gourmet meal while being in a backcountry setting. Cozy up to the wood burning stove at night, and wash dishes and rinse off at the indoor plumbed sink. There is no running water, however we supply and refill 55 gallon drums during the warm season (approx mid April-mid Oct) so you have water. You can heat up water and fill the 5 gallon shower buckets for a quick rinse outside as well. Right out the front door you'll have views of the LaSal mountain range of Moab. There is an enclosed private outhouse (blue building) approx 100 feet away from the yurt as well as an enclosed shower house (green building). Our second yurt is located North of this one, and has a completely separate entrance, and is on it's own 6 acre property, and cannot be seen from one another, so you have your own private area. This yurt is simple yet cozy and has all the amenities you need for a true "glamping" experience.
IMPORTANT: The Yurt is a partial self-service accommodation, meaning that some work or extra preparation is required on your part, pre and post trip, so PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
There is a wood burning stove (your primary heat source) and propane heater to supplement heat. For sleeping there is a queen sized bed, a large single size couch, a full size futon, and 1 single pull-out bed. The kitchen area has a sink plumbed to the outside for washing dishes inside the yurt (but no running water), and double burner stove, along with all cooking supplies, pots pans plates, utensils etc for cooking and eating. Sheets, blankets, propane, and a 55 gallon drum of water is provided during Spring/Summer/Fall (approx mid-April-mid Oct) and 2 5-gallons jugs of water for you to fill up in town during winter season as they will freeze over (approx mid Oct-mid April). Please bring your own extra water if you feel you'll need more. If you require additional water you can fill up in the town of Monticello at the Discovery Center 15 minutes from the yurt or the gas station. Wood is provided during colder months (approx Nov-Mar), 1 bundle of wood is provided complimentary per visit during warmer months (approx April-Oct). If you require more you can purchase in town or bring in your own. You are also responsible for chopping your own kindling and bringing newspaper for starting fires in the stove. During the Winter come prepared for cold temperatures, check the weather and bring add'l sleeping bags or blankets for larger groups. There is an enclosed pit toilet 50 feet from the yurt and also an outdoor shower/rinse area 20 feet away. For showers you need to heat water and use the shower bucket, but it is really nice after a hard day of playing in the outdoors. At this yurt during cold months, rinsing in the sink inside what most guest do. Although the yurt is only a short walk from a county dirt road, it sits at 7500 feet, so during the winter an all wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended, to keep from getting stuck in mud/snow. I recommend you have road side assistance in case you get stuck and need to be towed. You do not need high clearance, and the roads are plowed after any snow in the winter. If you have a dog(s) please add them as an "additional guest" at $10 extra per night. You are responsible for cleaning and putting away dishes, removing your dirty linens, sweeping up, removing your own GARBAGE and leaving the yurt in good condition for the next guests. If the yurt is not left clean, or garbage is left behind a $25 fee will be issued. The yurt is cleaned and inspected after each visit by a local "yurtkeeper". You will also be sent a Yurt Newsletter upon booking the Yurt that will include this information about your stay. Thanks and enjoy your Yurtcation!!!!
REMEMBER: THE YURT IS A PARTIAL SELF-SERVICE “GLAMPING” EXPERIENCE. GLAMPING MEANS THAT YOU CAN EXPECT A CAMPING LIKE EXPERIENCE, BUT YOU WILL HAVE ADDITIONAL AMENITIES THAT YOU WOULD NORMALLY NOT HAVE CAMPING, SUCH AS SOLAR POWER, A WOOD STOVE, A QUEEN SIZED BED, COUCH, CLEAN LINENS, A SINK PLUMBED TO THE OUTSIDE, ETC. HOWEVER, YOU WILL STILL EXPERIENCE CAMP LIKE CONDITIONS, SUCH AS HAVING TO MAKE A FIRE IN THE WOOD STOVE TO HEAT THE YURT, HOT TEMPERATURES IN THE SUMMER, COLD TEMPS IN THE WINTER, USING A PIT TOILET, FILLING UP WATER IN JUGS TO WASH AND CLEAN DISHES, THERE WILL BE DIRT/DUST AND THE OCCASIONAL COBWEB AND ALTHOUGH WE DO OUR BEST TO CLEAN THE YURT AFTER EACH GUEST IT SHOULD BE EXPECTED THAT THE YURT WILL NOT BE AS CLEAN AS A HOTEL. ANIMALS AND INSECTS, SUCH AS COYOTES, MICE, SPIDERS, FLIES, RABBITS, DOGS, AND OCCASIONALLY GOATS OR HORSES MIGHT BE AROUND. NONE OF THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE GROUNDS FOR A CANCELLATION OR REFUND, SO PLEASE COME PREPARED AND HAVE APPROPRIATE EXPECTATIONS BEFORE YOUR TRIP. THE YURT IS A SPECIAL PLACE TO MANY, INCLUDING MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. WE ARE CONSTANTLY WORKING ON IT AND TRYING TO MAKE IT AS NICE OF AN EXPERIENCE AS POSSIBLE FOR ALL GUESTS. PLEASE TREAT THE YURT AS IF IT WAS YOUR OWN AND WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU BACK. THANKS!

About the host
Hosted by Todd Smith

I'm a Realtor in Denver and this is my personal getaway, vacation yurt for rock climbing, biking, hiking and just relaxing.
Why they chose this property
I have been able to share this space with many guests over the years, and enjoy how much the Yurt forces people (including myself) to unwind, unplug and get back to simple living. It can be quite peaceful and relaxing, even though it's pretty basic with amenities.
