About the host
Hosted by Lori Godwin
I'm a musician, chef and farmer who loves to meet new people and share my beautiful farm with them. In 2004, we settled at Downing Hollow Farm in Olivehill, TN, located adjacent to my hometown of Savannah, TN. We started a family and watched our children grow up and flourish in this country setting. This is also where my love of gardening evolved into farming. At Downing Hollow, we established two acres of vegetables, flowers, and herbs, 15 acres of pasture, a small pear orchard, and two high tunnel greenhouses. Downing Hollow Farm’s assortment of heirloom and specialty produce, grown using sustainable organic methods, was a fixture at the Memphis farmers markets from 2006 to 2013, and the farm hosted interns from all over the world. I also cofounded the Cooper-Young Farmers Market in 2010, which is still going strong today.
Today, I divide my time between Memphis and Olivehill, TN. In recent years, I established Downing Hollow Farm as a part-time vacation rental for R&R and event space for retreats and workshops. I am also enjoying this second phase of the farm’s life, and it is my great honor and joy to share the beauty and magic of this serene, pastoral setting with visitors who come from far and wide.

Why they chose this property
Some of the happiest times of my life were spent as a kid, trekking through creeks, pastures and woodlands, and riding my pony bareback at a good friend's farm nearby. Those memories have stayed with me all my life, so when we had the opportunity to purchase the Downing Hollow property, I knew this was the place for my family. The property was a bare-bones Mennonite home without electricity, plus it was not finished out both inside and out. So began the long, challenging refurbishment and learning experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
What makes this property unique
Downing Hollow is named after the Downing Family that lived in the hollow back in the 1800s. I've had the honor to host the Downing Family reunion in 2022!
I'm sure they settled here because of the abundant wildlife, limestone creeks, and cool breezes that waft down the hollow. The soil is rich with minerals and the creeks are pure and cold. The Olivehill community grew and once had an old country store/ post office, old stone church and elementary school. Now we are so lucky to have a Mennonite community that live in this area with their church only 1/2 mile down the road. we would never have been able to navigate country living without the ongoing help and sage advice of our Mennonite Neighbors.
