The home is located on our family's privately owned 700 acre tree farm. This ranch was The National Tree Farm Winner in the year 2002. There are lakes, a fish hatchery, and an antique museum to view only with pre-arranged guided tours as optional. It is a working ranch so guests are asked to not wander through without a guide for guests safety as well as respect for owners. Hiking on the gravel roads up the mountain is not advised during any logging season. However the neighborhood has ample road ways that many enjoy hiking, jogging, and cycling; which is encouraged in order to enjoy the lovely area. Most of the surrounding properties are privately owned and require no trespassing.

My family has stayed at this home for the last 3 years in a row and I can't say enough nice things about this amazing property. The nearby river makes the setting very beautiful and peaceful (drinking coffee / wine out on the patio was a delight). The home is spacious and comfortable, all the beds, towels and linens are top shelf. The incredibly accommodating and welcoming host has provided anything a guest might possibly need, even anticipating the needs of the gluten free and lactose intolerant guest. I have stayed at many VRBO properties and none of them have ever been so well supplied.
Beautiful, welcoming and wonderful accommodations!!!
This is our second year back and we love the beautiful grounds and the peaceful setting. Everything about this property is 5 stars from the towels and bedding to the dining, kitchen and pantry supplies. Anything you need, this property provides. The host is welcoming and does an amazing job making you feel welcome.
Beautiful home and property (especially loved the gazebo overlooking the river/creek), well stocked for a more enjoyable stay, very considerate and thoughtful host. We were visiting local relatives and did not have nearly enough time to enjoy this lovely property.
This was a wonderful experience. Everything was very clean, and I enjoyed the calm serenity. We didn't want to leave and decided to stay and rebooked this for another week.
Thanks for being such a gracious host...
The host is amazing! Very easy to work with, great communication. We had multiple changes and extensions during our stay, everything went smoothly. We could not have found a better place to stay with more accommodating host. Five stars /10 out of 10 / Highly Recommend.
Gorgeous house and location. The hostess met us at the house, gave us a tour and politely explained the house rules. She had stocked the fridge with milk, eggs, drinks etc. There was all types of seasonings, vegetable oil, and such in the cabinets. House was immaculate, gorgeous and spacious. We loved our stay there and will recommend the house to anyone. The hostess is definitely a super host! If you are ever in the Willamette Valley this is the place to stay!
Maureen’s home in Scio is truly great. The whole house is fully appointed with so many nice touches. Full kitchen with every utensil you could think of. Coffee, friendly food items (eggs, cereal, bars, candy, condiments, etc), extra pillows and blankets, patio (with grill), all bathroom products...and more. This is the second time we’ve stayed in The Baron House and we’re looking forward to the next time!
A quiet rural retreat only 30 min from Salem. Set amongst rolling farmland off of a dead end road, the site is extremely quiet. The only thing you hear sitting out on the patio is the babbling brook. We've rented a lot of VRBO's over the years and Maureen is definitely the perfect host. The large, extremely well equipped kitchen even had a waffle maker and waffle mix that Maureen supplied. The refrigerator was full of milk, eggs, butter-all the things you needed to get started. No need to stop at a store on the way in for your first morning in the house. Maureen is only 5 minutes away and was intent on making your stay perfect. Savvy Google map users, will notice that there are a few other houses adjacent. These are homes of family members engaged in the running of the 900 acre tree farm. You never know they're there, and when you do bump into them, they're always extremely friendly. We had plenty of wildlife running through the backyard, including turkeys, quail, and deer. A downside is that although this house is on a large farm, you can't explore the farm without an escort. It's probably an insurance thing, or maybe past renters spoiled it for everybody. Another minor disappointment is that you can't get down to the little brook; the banks are choked with wild berries that have thorns, making them impossible to penetrate. Sofia you're looking for some peace and quiet, with the big city in easy driving distance, this is your place. Just book it...
I can't recommend Maureen's house enough - it's a beautiful house on an idyllic property. The back porch looks out over a tranquil stream with birds chirping - a perfect place to sit and relax with a morning coffee, or grill and eat dinner. The house is immaculate and has everything you need. And the wifi is blazing fast. Maureen and family are hospitable and very responsive. Can't wait to return!
Maureen has a professional background in Restaurant and Hotel Management and a "knack" for guessing people's needs to make them feel at home. She and her husband Clint have been married 35 years and traveled many times around the states and abroad with his consulting work and for pleasure. Clint is a retired CPA and family business consultant, so travels while teaching often. He has an appreciation for the needs of the traveler who wants home away from home. They have raised six children and with the large extended family hosted many events. They purchased the Baron Country Home from their family limited partnership and are excited to offer this beautiful home for business travelers especially. They look forward to pampering you with the comforts of home most enjoyed!
Why they chose this property
Located on a 700 acre forested privately owned national tree farm, the house is nestled in the beautiful Willamette Valley. Oregon has one of the largest collection of covered bridges in the Nation, eight of which are along the Willamette Valley bridge loop in Linn County alone. Scio is the annual home of the Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair and NorthWest Championship Sheep Dog Trials every third weekend in May. Check out Albany's Visitor Center or Travel Salem for additional fun information.
There is no public transportation in this lovely rural area. A rental car is your best option. Many folks love the area for running, walking or cycling enjoyment.
What makes this property unique
Such an amazing drive to view the valley as you even approach our home! It's definitely an escape from the normal city feeling, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Tranquilly peaceful creekside view and fresh air, you'll find our home ease you into relaxing just stepping onto the deck out back. It's a perfect hub for working or exploring in the area.
