About this property
LAKEFRONT PRIVACY ON SUNSET COVE
Relax in this super comfortable and cozy cottage high on the cliffs above the always changing waters of Lake Erie. Designed for total comfort and amazingly quiet respite from the real world, our location is reminiscent of the Amalfi coast, but a whole lot more convenient. Enjoy the indoor log burning fireplace with a gas starter, and our granite outdoor fire pit. We recently added a new 2024 Calspas Hottub, that overlooks the lake and sunsets, right off the deck of the cottage. We have a newly added Gazebo lakeside.. so you can enjoy a cocktail, and/or dinner, while taking in the most beautiful sunsets you will ever experience.
The cottage and gardens are perched high up on the cliffs of Lake Erie, currently there is no lake access to the water. Unfortunately the stairs were destroyed 3 times last year, due to higher than normal water levels, and the small beach was under water 90% of the season. So rebuilding them again seems futile at this time.....However, there is a pet friendly sandy beach at Barcelona Harbor about 7 miles away, that we use. It is a great place to swim, relax, kayak, Stand Up Paddleboard, and picnic. It is a sandy beach, and a sandy bottom lake floor...so easy to walk and swim.
There are several wineries and restaurants in nearby Westfield and North East... most visitors to Sunset Cove opt to spend most of their time unwinding on a chair, or on the swing watching some of the most glorious views on the planet.
We are located on the Lake Erie Wine Trail, and there are 26 wineries that make up the complete wine trail. Wineries are open YEAR ROUND and close only on major holidays. There is a very popular Wine Festival each year in late September as well as a cherry festival in July.
We are also only 20 miles away from The Chautauqua Institution, and the lake activities surrounding Lake Chautauqua. Chautauqua is well known around the world for its summer cultural concerts, lectures, operas, etc. For those who prefer a more active stay, there is a public boat launch where you can launch your boat or Jetski. Chautauqua is great for skiing, wakeboarding, and fishing…in the event that Erie is too rough. FYI- Chautauqua Marina also rents boats by the day.
If you want to get out on Lake Erie there is a public boat launch in Barcelona with overnight boat slips. Also, the same accessibility at North East Marina, going 4 miles towards PA on rt 5.
This is our summer “home away from home”, and we are pet friendly (as we have a dog). Please do not allow your dogs to dig (or roam) into the flower beds or the neighbors yard (the entire backyard is fenced). We want them to remain beautiful for everyone (With that in mind). Anyone staying for a week, there could be a time where yard care workers will be coming on the property to water the gardens, and mow the lawn. They will go about their business, but it is a necessity to keep the place looking great! We also have exterior only security cameras, to ensure that the property isn't being broke into while we are away. We also use it to monitor the yard and gardens while away, to know when to come up to water the gardens and mow the lawn, as we are over 2 hours away.
We hope you will enjoy your stay, and feel as comfortable and refreshed as we do every time that we are lucky enough to unwind here.

About the host
Hosted by Richard Marshall or Chris Hayes

We are avid gardeners and water enthusiasts, and have totally transformed this property from top to bottom, inside and out, to have that relaxing resort getaway feel. It took only 2 short years to plant the expansive garden trails leading to the lake, along with gutting the entire house and coming up with an entirely new floor plan and upgrades. We are very proud of our accomplishment and want to share it with others. Please treat it with respect.
Why they chose this property
My father was born in Erie. I have been coming to Lake Erie since I was a child. We both love the water, sunsets, and relaxing feel of this property. It truly is our "Home away from Home". We hope that you feel the same about it, and will come back time and time again! When we toured the property for the first time in Feb 2016. We knew right away this was a keeper. Even though a lot of work was needed to bring it up to today's you couldn't beat the view!!! So I wrote a check on the spot to secure the property.
What makes this property unique
You will fall in love with the stunning views of the coast line and cliffs. It is especially spectacular on days where the lake is rough with large waves crashing up the face of the rock cliffs.
