We enjoyed our week in Stillwater. The home was as described and had beautiful views and great amenities. We especially liked the back yard oasis and access to the biking trails.

We came to town for the knitting river cruise and lucked out by getting to stay at the Cottage in the Alley. We loved our stay. The house was amazing. We really enjoyed the fire pit over looking the river. We will def stay again!!!
The beautiful Schulenberg property was the perfect base for our family wedding weekend. The location was very convenient with easy access to downtown Stillwater by way of the riverside trail. The home has been gorgeously updated with great attention to detail, keeping the character of intact. Can't wait to stay there again!

Rick and Missy have a super home! Great location, just a short walk to Stillwater on a nice bike / walking path and overlooking a marina. Home was clean, nicely updated, there's two patios, one with a firepit and overlooking the St. Croix bay / marina. Nice place!
We enjoyed the stay and beautiful grounds, however, we weren't expecting so much traffic and noise when at the firepit. Overall it was a wonderful weekend with friends!

Thanks for staying with us! Not sure why so much traffic, it’s normally a very quiet neighborhood, Stillwater did have an art fair in town the weekend of your stay, might be the traffic you heard? Hope to see you again at the cottage!
We used the cottage for our high school girlfriends weekend. It was very comfortable, clean and truly felt like home. We enjoyed sitting by the fire table to relax and share stories. Host and hostess were fantastic. Thank you for offering such a great place to stay.

So glad you all had a great time, we welcome you back anytime.
Beautiful renovation. All bedrooms upstairs - comfortable beds and linens. Didn’t use the well equipped kitchen. Beautiful places to sit outside.
Great location. Walkable to downtown (1. Miles) down the trail. Had a great stay. Will return.
Great getaway spot for a family or even a romantic getaway. Fantastic host that greeted us with a beautiful fruit and cheese platter waiting for us after a long flight in from Seattle. Everything you need is at the house with a fabulous outdoor area that includes a fire pit, gas table, pond with fish/frogs and a gas grill. We ate all of our meals at the house! Just like being home!

What a beautiful comfortable place to stay. Close to downtown and the trails. We wished the weather would have been nicer so we could have enjoyed the patio. We would diffently come back and stay here again. We all absolutely loved it! We had a great girls weekend even with the cold damp weather!

We highly recommend this property!
This gorgeous home was perfect for 6 girlfriends gathering to celebrate well over 50 years of friendship. Missie met us at the house and gave us an in-depth tour of the entire home and made it so easy to immediately feel at home in her home.
We spent much of our time enjoying the large backyard with a view of the river and marina, two fire pits each with seating areas and a fish pond with a water fall. We chose to have meals in at night so to continue to enjoy this welcoming environment. The large kitchen table served perfectly for dining as well as card games late into the evening. The kitchen is so well appointed; we found cooking here a pleasure. The screened in sitting porch overlooking the backyard was great for coffee in the morning and we found fantastic walking trails just minutes away. The 2 bathrooms each had wonderful showers and were very clean as was the entire house.
We all agreed that this house and location exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend this property for a lovely stay in Stillwater.

Thanks for staying with us, cheers to many happy years!
Very clean and updated - all amenities provided. Kitchen was especially well equipped for cooking and host left lots of yummies for us to enjoy! Only negative is distance from downtown - however as long you do not mind a nice walk or short drive to town it is a great house. We had 6 adults and it was plenty of room. Would definitely recomend this host!

This restored cottage located near the marina was lovely. The interior was homey and inviting, while the exterior had serene views. Missie was a great host!
This is an amazing vacation home. The porch was a beautiful spot to start and end busy Stillwater days. The kitchen is very well stocked with appliance, dishes, etc. We appreciated having this property available. We had our family over for one evening and we all fit around the kitchen table. That was fantastic!!

About the host
Hosted by Rick & Missie Swanson
We have been married for 35 years and both LOVE this town and the beautiful old houses here! Believe it or not we have moved over 30 times during our 35 years in Stillwater (yes we are crazy like that!) we just can't leave this town. We are true river rats!
We have two wonderful children, both grown and married, and three delightful baby grands and a small Schnauzer named Murphy all who own our hearts!
We love gardening, traveling to Mexico, floating on the breath taking St Croix River and spending as much time as possible with family.
We are a fly by the seat of our pants kinda couple with a plan!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this quaint Alley and this 1880's home and the rich history of the Dutchtown neighborhood of Stillwater. The location is the perfect distance from town, nestled into the only single family neighborhood in Stillwater on the banks of the Scenic National St Croix Riverway makes its location a one of a kind!
We are located across the street from two marinas and one block from the beautiful Browns Creek Trail system. We can take a quick walk or bike ride to the left and head into the historic district or a right and walk along the creek to the old stone bridge.
We have always been drawn to that "diamond in the rough", this is our fourth home renovation in this neighborhood and we plan to enjoy it for years to come.
We can't wait to share our home and town with you!
