About this property
A totally authentic Montana sweet retreat in a convenient location
Tucked into the woods at the end of the road just 13 minutes from the heart of town, this cabin is a treasure. Cliff built the place himself; each tree sawn on his tractor-powered sawmill. We added family antiques, new mattresses and original art (lotsa comfort and love). The covered porch is high in the trees with breathtaking views 1000 feet above the Yellowstone River. A stellar location, you will be hard-pressed to find a more memorable authentic cabin experience during your Montana travels.
Cliff was the stuff of legend; a barrel chested mountain man with a heart of gold and a zen-like deep-souled connection to nature. The cabin has power, running water, bath, shower and a full kitchen. The loft has a king size power adjustable bed and the "Powder Room" has a full size bed. Both beds are topped with hand stitched comforters and cozy linens.
The secluded cabin was built onto the side of a mountain above town. You can watch squirrels scamper on the ground outside the bathroom window yet the living room and porch at the front of the cabin sit high off the ground in the trees. Through the tree tops, sky surrounds a view of the Yellowstone River below and the Crazy Mountains beyond. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular from this nest of a home in the trees. The thirty foot porch has a BBQ grill, a dining area and a lounge area complete with a fire pit to cozy around while looking at an endlessly star-filled "Big Sky Country" sky (especially delightful as we do not have the distraction of light pollution). Nights are considerably cooler up here in the forest 1000 feet above Livingston, a welcome respite during the warmer summer months. Cliff's cabin is in it's own neck of the woods, easy to access and private. You will find plenty of forest and a few trails to explore. A big horned owl and its mate have been hanging around Cliff’s cabin - you may hear them hoot at night and in the mornings.
Although we live on the property, you will not see our home. We enjoy people but we do not want to disturb the beauty of quietude which Cliff's cabin offers our guests. Simply let us know the level of interaction you desire. You may check-in on your own. We are accessible by phone and will let you know if we are out-of-town at the time of your booking. You will be able to see my art studio on your way to Cliff's cabin (ask us if you would like a studio tour). We are happy to answer questions and meet your needs. Let us know how we can make your stay dreamier.

About the host
Hosted by Amber and Raymond

We live an enchanted life up here beneath the boundless beauty of Montana’s painterly sky. My daily commute to work is a walk through the woods to my studio. I am an artist. Raymond has a Masters in plants and soil science and has spent the better part of two decades healing the earth via reclamation work. But his work took him far from home too much of the time (we saw each other 17 days one year) so he currently spends his days “talking shop” with local ranchers while keeping them in whatever John Deere equipment they need. Raymond can often be found in a dusty rodeo arena, his black cowboy hat gleaming with fresh bull snot as he protects young bull riders. My own outdoor passions are outside the rodeo arena; ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, white water sports to name a few. When we venture outdoors together we tend toward tamer pursuits so that our lovely crazy-smart dog Tala can accompany us (hiking, camping and cross-country skiing). Bhutan has been the focus of our recent travels since I am working on a special project carving for the king. Raymond joined me for a few weeks during my last stint overseas – we have such a BLAST traveling together…!
Both of us love Momma Nature. We enjoy people and all things artistic; music, theater, fine art, books, movies, food, wine, whiskey and dessert.

Why they chose this property
Even locals are blown away by the unique views and total mountain woodsy experience our property offers just four miles from the heart of downtown. Deer, elk, moose, bears, mountain lions, rabbits, game birds and songbirds are part of the experience. Our mountainside retreat protects us from the infamous "Livingston wind" and offers scenic views of the Bridgers, the Crazies and the Absaroka Mountains. You will see the Yellowstone river gleam at sunrise in the valley below (two fishing accesses are only 10 minutes away). Yellowstone Park is a 45 minute drive up Paradise Valley. Bozeman is just 25 minutes aways. Livingston has exceptional dining, wining, bakeries and breweries (we've authored a booklet for you with local suggestions). While the twinkling lights of town can be viewed from many places on our spacious property, Cliff's cabin is tucked into the trees; shady yet plenty of sunlight. Lovely walks and longer hikes are accessible right from your door but of course the river and valley offer limitless adventures. We are outdoor enthusiasts happy to offer advice based on your adventure level and sightseeing preferences.
What makes this property unique
Cliff's cabin is not a "cookie-cutter" cabin. Rather it was built by hand by a local born "zen logger" using a tractor-powered sawmill. We've woven together family antiques, artistic flair and welcoming cozy charm which is why families who stay are keen to return to make more cherished memories in "their" cabin.
