We should not have agreed to host you on such short notice. We only agreed to it due to your sad and special circumstances of a dying family member and your imminent need to help care for him and be present with him here in Sausalito. You booked on September 30 to arrive on October 1st -after spending 10 days in a hotel- and our previous guests had left on September 29. They had been there 8 months and it turned out they had trashed the place. In 24 hours we purchased and replaced several large pieces of furniture including a couch and a China cabinet, linens and various kitchen items. Not to mention the habitual top to bottom cleaning, including washing all the windows inside and out, buffing out the floors, painting walls, power washing the walkways and decks, overhauling the jacuzzi, steam cleaning the carpets… and we were ready for you by 4:30 on October 1st! To prepare this 4,000 square foot home, that had been abused, in 24 hours, took a 10 man crew. They did a Herculean job and did it well. Yes, there were some small oversights due to the mad dash to ready the house under the already mentioned circumstances ( like forgetting to check the ONE of four bathrooms for left over items in the lower vanity compartment) we also let you know that our maintenance people would come back to take care of any issues that could not be address at the time: Everything was explained to you in real time. During the time we hosted you, we attended to any and all of your requests, some of them very particular, but we accommodated. As to the safety of the house for small children, this is a three story mid-century home with the characteristic features of the era, including open stairwells. My 2 grandkids were raised there so we kid-proofed the stairs with a protective grid. But, most important, when, and IF, a prospective guest lets me know that they’ll bring small children (which you did not at the time of booking) I inform them of the house layout as I do when they contemplate bringing elderly people. Finally, I’d like to remind you that, in consideration of the fact that we sent our maintenance people back to finish some items after you arrived, we gave you a THREE DAYS discount on your final bill! Our home, besides it’s outstanding location, views, etc is a very charming, well appointed house that always elicit expressions of awe and admiration from our guests.
