Football Weekend with family and friends
My first trip to South Bend for a football game. We enjoyed our stay, though the game didn't go our way. The house was plenty large enough for our group of 6 adults and was well maintained. Conveniently located just south of the airport, although not much in the way of nearby dining, so we made the 15-20 drive into town. There was not a TV in any of the sitting areas as all the TVs were located in the bedrooms, which is the only negative thing I have to say about the house. Otherwise, all was great. Thanks Chantelle!!

The big TV in the living room was removed due to damage. There are plans to replace the big TV in the living-room for next season!
The country location of Dodd-Snyder House place it just outside the South Bend City limits. Many guests choose it for the location which offers more quiet and privacy, enjoying the big yard for games like croquet, lawn darts, and bean bags, as well as the relaxing spaces of the sun porch and veranda.
“Maps” times downtown South Bend at 12 minutes (to nearest popular restaurants), but it might take slightly longer is you are unfamiliar with the area. There is a Martin’s Supermarket 5 mins. North on Mayflower with an excellent smokehouse full of prepared foods like ribs, brisket, chicken, and sides, as well as full range of deli salads and sandwiches for carry out. It also has a Starbucks in the store.
The local Dine-In delivery service brings food from almost all area restaurants to your door.
A group of couples stayed here as part of a ND football trip weekend in September. The house was big and beautiful and we especially enjoyed the outdoor space (back patio, fire pit). It’s located in a little “rougher” area of South Bend, so if you’re looking to go out to dinner, you’re probably driving back into downtown South Bend. The property is located down a private drive and fairly secluded, so no issues with the home or yard area itself. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning in the future.
First of all we had no issues with this house, besides the smell of sulfur in the water (none of my family wanted to shower because of it), in which I wouldn't have even mentioned if the follow events didn't take place. The dishwasher was broken, which wasn't an issue, however it was advertised as an accommodation. in which I didn't plan to complaint about; until now. I was the 2021 USC VS Notre Dame weekend. I had planned this for some time, I was extremely excited for this event. I had family come in from Illinois. Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, and Kansas. Once we checked out everything was left as it was when we arrived. Then I received the following message about an hour after departure "’I'm doing a walk through and collecting towels and sheets for laundering, and see that one of the pillows off a queen bed is missing. The pillow is easily replaced but the pillowcase is part of a set of striped Fieldcrest sheets and now I’m short a pillowcase.
I hope guests here will treat my house like the home of a friend, and wouldn’t dream of taking something from the home of a friend where I was a guest. I’m not a hotel with a large corporation to absorb losses, I’m a person trying to make a few extra bucks to help pay expenses on my house.
Please be so good as to mail the pillowcase back to me so I won’t have mismatched sheets.". Really? Instead of asking if we moved a pillow, or relocated it, she assumed we stole it? The automatic assumption that we took her pillow literally blew my mine. FYI, we didn't take her pillow, it was in the adjacent room, and YES she found it. Completely unprofessional, and after the fact she tried to say that water didn't smell, and "our smell is better than hers". We had 8 people in there and only one of us actually took a shower due to the smell. I wasn't going to complain about any of it, until she decided to accuse me of taking her beloved pillow. What would have been a 5 start review, is now a 1 star. BEWARE OF MOVING PILLOWS and SEWER SMELLING WATER! (I hope she got it fixed by now)
The house was very tucked away and nice. We had a group of five couples who just needed a place midway between Chicago and Michigan so this was perfect. Host was helpful and kind, kitchen was ready for cooking, and back patio was a perfect place for an evening drink. I'd absolutely stay here again.

Perfect get away, especially for a large group
The house/property was exactly as advertised, but more gracious with more privacy and generous space than we expected. We had our extended family of 11 with us and there was comfortable sleeping and dining amenities. New appliances, clean as a whistle, and wonderful rooms and veranda to gather together. We had 7 more guests for lunch one day, as the veranda was a perfect size for everyone. The host had thoughtfully left us some basics for our first meal and did a wonderful tour. Recommend without qualification.

Perfect Game Day get-a-way
We loved our stay. The house has lots of charm and a beautiful yard. We spent our nights on the covered porch talking and enjoying our time. The owners were great to deal with and very responsive. We didn’t cook but it seemed pretty well stocked for a group of 12. We will definitely return!

About the host
Hosted by Chantelle
This lovely home has been in the family for three generations. Built in 1925 by George and Ann Dodd, my husband's great aunt and uncle, it was originally sided in wood, and was redone in brick in 1935. Updating the home and making it shine has been a labor of love, and is a way of honoring my husband, his parents, and great aunt and uncle. I've lived on the property for 37 years and love the house and yard so much; I hope guests will find it as relaxing and beautiful a place as I do.

A fire table is also provided for after dark fun. • Wooded surrounds add to privacy, and are host to deer, foxes, and a variety of birds including hawks
