Wood-burning Pizza Oven

TrulliRoccia is a rare, romantic and sympathetically restored trulli that has the ‘Soul of Puglia’ running throughout every cone and rock of its ancient construction. It will embrace you and captivate your heart from the moment you make your final approach to the property and step through the door.

Rare, because this well-appointed trulli has been sensitively restored to include three (3) ensuite bathrooms for each of the three (3) generously sized bedrooms, along with two sitting rooms/lounges, dining room and kitchen, should you choose to dine in. Air-conditioning throughout.

Total interior is 115 square meters / 1000 square feet. A plethora of original features – such as numerous 'niche', stone arches, working fireplace. alcoves and a wood-burning pizza oven, etc – will unfold as you settle in to a very special stay at TrulliRoccia.

As the Puglian lifestyle is centred around ‘outdoor living’, the property has a walled and outside shaded dining area (in addition to inside dining for six). And plenty of additional stone terracing for basking in the sun. There is a poolside shaded pergola and yet another poolside dining area, also for six (6)

As Sandy, one of our recent guests has written:

"We first visited Trulli Roccia last year in Spring .. then again in Summer ... .Our first experience was a holiday and then fell in love with it so much that we returned for our honeymoon a couple of months later .

It is an absolute haven and as I write this I can remember the tranquility ...the early morning swims in the most perfect of pools whilst the most beautuful butterflies I have ever seen flew around the many stunning flowers in the garden and grounds"

Set in nearly one hectare (2 acres) on a hilltop with stunning vistas, TrulliRoccia will wrap you up in the ‘Soul of Puglia’ and envelope your mood. Its idyllic setting will challenge your senses -- vistas, birdsong, olive and fruit trees. You will be surrounded by countryside and magnificent views pocked by distant trulli cones poking through the olive groves and majestic hilltop masseria – providing maximum tranquility, serenity and relaxation for you and your family or travel companions. . ., making it oh so easy to leave the world behind.

Still, you will be ideally located for convenient access (10-15 min by car) to the beautiful Puglian hilltop towns of Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica . . . each with its own unique character – and type of mozzarella! Ostuni's beaches are only minutes drive away.

Further afield, excursions to UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Alberobello (35 min) and Matera – a ‘must’ in our opinion – (1 hr 45 min), as well as the beautiful baroque city of Lecce (1hr 20 min) or Otranto (1 hour 45min) or Gallipoli (1 hour 30 min)

Kitchen has all modern amenities, including dishwasher.
Separate dining room with seating for six (6)

Shaded outdoor veranda for al fresco dining. Shaded poolside pergola. And poolside dining area in addition.

WIFI, iPod docking station, kettle, toaster, microwave, iron, ironing board

Utilities: central heating, dishwasher, laundry washer, 2x fridges/freezers, 4-ring stove, coffee makers, kettle. All kitchenware.

Recent guest Angela, from the USA, writes in her review:

Like no place we’ve ever stayed before

Trulli Roccia was truly unique. Nestled in the countryside outside of Ostuni, it felt both off the grid and yet not too far from some of the most gorgeous towns in Puglia. We used it as a home base to explore Ostuni, Martina Franca, Polignano a Mare, Bari, Cisternino and Aberobello. All were within a 15-60ish minute drive. We had gorgeous weather and spent lots of time relaxing by the showstopper of a pool too.Living in a stone house can be awkward, as another reviewer mentioned. House caretaker Neil was super helpful, even met us at Ladi’s (do NOT underestimate this friendly place for morning coffee and food, even though it’s attached to a gas station!) to show us the way down the winding dirt roads to the house. We appreciated that he brought some starter water bottles too (the trullo water is non potable), wine, olive oil, and the ever addictive treat tarallli. The supermarket was close enough to restock when necessary. We learned power outages are pretty common in the countryside . Fortunately, we only had one and Neil kept us informed about when we could expect it back (it was only half a day).If you come here, come ready to enjoy a slower pace, a few quirks, and the uncrowded, unspoiled beauty that is Puglia.

Perfect

The propriety is well equipped, the chek-in and the assistance when needed was easy to get. Overall the propriety is really nice, the Trulli is clearly well preserved and the ambiance is special. We had an excellent time! (Only thing is the road to get there that is bumpy but it's not that long.)

Beautiful stay

We had a wonderful and relaxed week here, enjoying the outdoor space but also the cool interiors too! The property is very well maintained and designed… and is just as it looks online. The track to the house is bumpy so a decent car is advised!

Idyllic Trullo

A perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside with views looking across to Ostuni. To have so much privacy and space with figs, plums and prickly pears to pick and eat every day whilst staying in the most well appointed Trullo. Great pizza oven and large pool with outdoor areas to enjoy. Such a wonderful time.

Wonderful holidays in an enchanting trulli

We went to TrulliRoccia last year and we chose to come back a second time in this amazing place because it is really unique! It has a special atmosphere. There are all the comforts that a family needs; you can see great care in every detail. Glenn and Steve did a really good job! The time spent there was simply the best we could imagine. The swimming-pool is great and we loved to swam after dinner... Thank you Glenn and Annie! Hope to come back for the third time!!!

Enchanting

The Trulli Roccia has been tastefully restored and stylishly finished, retaining many of its original features and sits in a large secluded area full of Almond, Olive and cacti trees. the property inside is very spacious allowing the five of us our own individual space provided by the 3 bed, 3 en suites, kitchen, dining room and two lounges, Our hosts Steve and Glen made us feel most welcome and recommended some great towns and restaurants which we visited. we are looking forward to our next visit here when the swimming pool will be in place,

Overpriced

Nice property but… pics online are almost 10 yrs old, and currently it is different. The swimming pool is not maintained properly same for interior such as bathroom. And a clog in the drain and asked 3 times - Neil came and did what he could but I gave up and ended up taking shower in a different bathroom. Air con is outdated and very noisy, lack of maintenance overall a bit sad for the price definitively.

unique and genuine

This trullo is exactly as depicted on the website only cozier and more welcoming that I expected. I fell in love with Puglia and staying in this unique and charming environment added greatly to the experience. Glenn and Steve have thought of everything. We were welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. When we mentioned that a full length mirror would be a nice addition, it appeared the next day! I would highly recommend this trullo, I can't wait to return. Eileen from PA, USA

Lovely Trullo surrounded by Olive trees

We loved the quiet location in the countryside a lot. To live in a Trullo was a fantastic unique experience although it took a while to not hit our heads. The pool and outside area invite to enjoy and relax and are lovingly designed. We were very pleased about the fig trees we benefited during our stay in August. Hazel helped us to access the Trullo which is a challenge due to the narrow and bumpy off-road for roughly one kilometer which we had to master with our own car (SUV). Supermarkets are reachable after a ten minutes drive. We used the bigger Carefour market (20 minutes) at the entrance of Ostuni due to the selection. The cleaning team could have done a better job but Hazel took care immediately - thank you. Overall it was a great stay and we can strongly recommend the Trullo.

Fabulous property, in a quiet rural location!

We have absolutely loved staying at this property, the trulli looks even better in person. Inside there were 3 large living spaces, plenty of room for six people. As well as three good sized double bedrooms each accompanied by an on suite. The trulli had everything that we needed inside as well as outside. The pagoda by the pool was especially useful and good comfy when you needed a bit of shade. The swimming pool was large and beautiful, it was surrounded by 6 sunlougers each with with overhead canopies. The town ostuni was picturesque and roughly a 25 minute drive into the centre, we enjoyed eating there most nights. With many different recommendations from the owners and Hazel. Hazel who greeted us on arrival has been amazing and very helpful answering any questions that we had as well as Steve and Glen. Thank you for such a lovely stay, would love to come back!!❤️❤️

A Most Perfect Wedding.......The Roccia Way

My wife and I (still getting used to that phrase) have been lucky enough to stay at Trulli Roccia on a previous occasion. It was on this occasion that we hatched our wedding plans with Puglia and Roccia pivotal in our celebrations. Glenn and Steve could not have been happier to allow us to use Roccia for our reception/fiesta. They also shared their local knowledge throughout the build up that proved invaluable. We were married in Martina Franca and headed back to Roccia with 40+ guests in the evening for what turned out to be the most perfect reception we could have wished for. Our guests were completely blown away by the uniqueness of our reception venue. Roccia is 5 star experience which was at the heart of our 5 star wedding.....We are eternally grateful for the memories provided that will never fade. We will be back!!

Very Nice Trullo in a countryside setting

It sets in a beautiful countryside setting with an excellent outside patio & pool area. The hilltop setting makes for excellent views, especially after dark from the pool area. Due to being there mid-June & being in the countryside come prepared with your mosquito repellent. The kitchen is very equipped, as we did most of our meals at the villa we enjoyed it, plus the extra refrigerator is a great plus and we had a great pizza feast one night with the pizza oven. We enjoyed the peace & quiet of being out in the countryside, however it does make for a bit of a drive to get out and sightsee. We took advantage of the nice train station in Ostuni to cut down on the driving for some of our day trips to Leece, Bari, Monopoli and my wife's favorite Polignano a Mare. One thing we didn't catch when we booked, is there is no TVs so bring your tablets...there is good wifi. We did have one issue with the whole-house air-conditioning that required a follow-up contact & a few days to get resolved, however once it was working - it worked well.

perfect pool retreat close to enigmatic towns

We really enjoyed the fantastic views to surrounding lush olive groves; the trulli was wonderfully off the beaten track, beautifully quiet as well as scenic. Including the large sculptural cactus and olive trees within the design, the generous landscaping of the garden and pool area made the whole trulli experience comfortable and luxurious. The cabanna bed by the really brilliantly! designed pool was fab and the choice of seating and dining areas were super. Reading in the shade from the olive trees near the pool was idyllic. Inside and out, the careful mix of vintage & reclaim elements with the contemporary brought out the authentic beauty of the stone. The trulli was well equipped and the style was warm and simple, not cluttered, white where possible on cloistered ceilings with atmospheric lighting. It offered great character and variation and was really well maintained. The Trulli was a terrific base to enjoy beautiful historic and restaurant filled Cisterano and Martina Franca which we favoured as though pleasantly buzzy they were less touristy than Ostuni. We went to Lecce for the afternoon and evening, loved the hectic Florentine feel and mass of interconnecting historic streets of the old quarter, great shopping for 1950’s retro lights – even managed to bring a sputnik chandelier home….still to reassemble! Sure there is a lot more to discover but it was actually rather hard to drag ourselves away from the pool once we remembered we were on holiday! Annie and Glenn were great hosts, really liked meeting both of them and getting all sorts of advice on the type of places we would most enjoy, villages, restaurants, beach clubs and so on. We would definitely recommend for a beautiful escape and cultural local!

An experience of a lifetime!

Would you like to try something so incredibly different while visiting the Puglia region of Italy? Then TrulliRoccia is the place to stay. Location was perfect to take daily trips to surrounding towns. We really had no idea what to expect. After looking at the photos, we knew it would be beautiful and unique. But once you step through the front door, it brought everything to life. TrulliRoccia was spotless and as well appointed as a home can be. We were 3 women in our late 50's, so we each had our own bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. It was perfect! Each morning we would leave to tour a different area of Puglia. By 5 PM, we couldn't wait to drive back to TrulliRoccia. It truly felt like your home away from home. The drive off the main road to the Trullo was a little tricky at first. But after a couple of runs, it was a piece of cake. You just have to be careful. We finally ventured out at night by the end of the week, only to realize we would have rather stayed in our Trullo and cook in our kitchen. The grounds were stunning and so peaceful. We were able to spend a couple of days by the pool. It felt magical and incredibly relaxing. Once we were in for the night, we felt as if we were in this safe cocoon. It felt cool at night inside, but each room had its own heating system, which worked beautifully. The WiFi was an added bonus. I just learned about Trullis 8 months ago from a friend who told me about the Puglia region. I was lucky enough to find TrulliRoccia online to experience this amazing vacation that I will never, ever forget. Thank you Glenn, Steve, Annie (and Pip)!!!

We are both passionate about Puglia . . . it's cuisine & wine, the beaches and abundant sunshine. Having tired of London's grey skies, we divide our time between the UK and Italy.

But probably more important than what we can say about ourselves is what guests say, these excerpts taken from reviews that guests have posted about us and our house manager, Annie:

“Communication with the owners was great, as was their woman on the ground, Annie, who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.”

“Glenn & Steve were a delight to deal with and all our questions were answered swiftly.”

“Liaising with the owners was really easy and the arrival process very smooth.”

“Owners Glenn and Steve, who live in nearby Ostuni, complete the picture, offering local knowledge and tips for the best food, wine and sites the gorgeous region has to offer.”

“Annie and Glenn were great hosts, really liked meeting both of them and getting all sorts of advice on the type of places we would most enjoy, villages, restaurants, beach clubs and so on.”

“The owners were fantastic, great communication an very helpful. . . Thank you Glenn & Steve.”
