Secluded, historic 150 acre estate, private lake, pickle ball, 2 min to marina
Mooreland Preserve is a four-bedroom, four-bath house built in 1889 as a working farm of 140 private acres. Extensive new renovations include a gourmet kitchen, great room, all baths, and new HVAC. Unique, upscale finishes feature granite countertops, centuries old timbers, custom cabinetry and millwork, and refinished original heart of pine flooring throughout. Situated on 140 private acres, the woodlands and water-rich nature preserve provide the perfect sanctuary to restore the should. Mooreland is home to a variety of wildlife -- deer, wild turkey, ducks and birds. The estate also has a barn and an ancient log cabin; an acre pond stocked with bass and bream, and a newly resurfaced pickleball and tennis court. Walking trails take you to all these treasures, and beyond. Waterside Grill and Marina is a quarter mile away, where you may rent all manner of water craft, launch your own, and have a great meal on the Carolinas famed Lake Norman. This house, comfortable and spacious, enjoys a rich history, and is still an active farm for sustainably source timber. We invite you to come and add to the lore of this unique North Carolina 6-generation family estate.
HISTORY
Alexander Moore, II and his family settled on this land in 1831 on the shoals of the Catawba River. Six generations of Moore descendants have coninuously owned and cared for the property. The current owner, John Moore, born in 1936, was the direct descendent of Gen. John Moore, who fought in the Revolutionary War. He and his four brothers grew up working the farm which at that time had fields of grain and cotton, orchards, cows, horses, chickens, and pigs.
In 1958, John encouraged his father Clyde, then retired, to plant pine trees in the fallow fields. In 1980, the pond and tennis court were added and the house was updated. John and his wife, Patricia, have recently renovated the house and grounds again and are opening it to others so that Mooreland can continue to be enjoyed by future generations. Patricia, environmentalist of some note locally, passed away in September of 2022, and in her honor, the family plans to work with State and environmental groups to make as much of the Catawba river valley north of Lake Norman, including the 140 acres at Mooreland Preserve, to be permanently designated as wild space.

Phil and his guests were amazing. They helped us as owner/managers with some insights and treated the property as their own, even stripping the beds and taking out trash--something unexpected and seldom seen when folks are faced with the expense and priorities of a vacation. Five stars

My family stayed on the estate for a weekend while we were in town for a wedding. The history of the estate and large grounds were wonderful and relaxing to enjoy!
The house is amazing! Wonderful for a couples getaway or ladies weekend! Quiet setting close to Lake Norman State Park. Hoping to plan a holiday getaway with friends jn the future.

5 star guest all the way! Jaime left the house and property in immaculate shape. What a gracious and thoughtful person, and we would be so fortunate if Team Fox graces Mooreland Farmstead again.
Lovely property!
Our family took full advantage of our surroundings! We spent time fishing on the dock (and even caught a fish!), playing tennis and pickleball, and exploring the grounds! We had a lot of great family time in the large, well appointed farm kitchen. Overall a great family getaway!

JoEllen and her family were an absolute delight. We are huge fans of Team JoEllen! Timely, gracious communication and such consideration of our property, even down to doing some of the post-stay laundering of linens!!! I mean, what?! It seems to us is if she was part of the family that has worked and loved this place since 1831. We hope she will visit again soon!

Wonderful stay at the Moore house! The host was so welcoming and talked to Mr Moore a day before we arrived. What a wonderful treasure to get to stay in their beloved property. This was our home away from home as we traveled in town for my nephew's wedding. We even hosted all my nieces, nephews, and spouses a few days before the wedding. The pickleball court, pond and ample room in the kitchen were all big hits. We can't wait to stay again when we are in town visiting.
Very charming home with lots of history. Enjoyed the striping on the tennis court to allow for playing pickleball. Appreciated every bedroom having a full bath.

Bob and his group were an absolute delight. We are so fortunate to have guests so appreciative and gracious! We are big fans of Team Lynch and they are welcome back with open arms any time.
This was the perfect location to connect with family. The home is just beautiful and the grounds with fishing pond was so peaceful. We loved rocking on the front porch, each morning. A great place to start the day with a cup of coffee and end with a glass of wine.
The house and property were fantastic. Very clean. Kitchen well stocked with cooking items. Loved having full bath for each room. The kids and dog enjoyed the large property and the pond.
We loved staying in the Moore’s farmhouse and enjoyed the surrounding property! This listing is exactly as it is described. The house is spacious with nice furnishings…and fully equipped with everything we needed. We are definitely interested in staying again when visiting the Lake Norman area. We are grateful for the Moore’s gracious hospitality!
We had a wonderful family mini vacation! We loved the perfect Nd, tennis court, and trails. We felt right at home and really appreciate the time and care the owners obviously took for our stay. The grounds were well cared for and the trails were well marked. Everyone in our family felt comfortable. We simply loved that each bedroom had an on suite!

What a delight to have Mary stay at Mooreland Farmstead. Our cleaning staff, who we cherish, raved at the condition that the property was left in immaculate shape. Her gracious words and kind assessment left us assured she was treating the farm as her own. Our respect for Mary and her family is high, and they are always welcome at Mooreland Farmstead!
What an amazing weekend! We will definitely return. Plenty of room for 2 families with so much to do! Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful property!

Bethany and her family were ideal guests. Her communication and graciousness made Memorial Day weekend seamless for me, and she treated the property as if it were her own. One would never find a better person to stay at their property. Five stars all the way!
The Mooreland Homestead was incredible. The home was not only clean and tidy but a gorgeous home. Our two dogs had a blast running around the property, we hiked and played tennis. We sat on the front porch in the rocking chairs, just relaxed and connected as a family. It was such a wonderful trip.

The Ridgway group was as gracious as one could ever be fortunate to have stay at an ancestral home. When they left, the looked as if they were never there. Their kind and helpful communication allowed us to make sure future guests will benefit. We are huge fans and hope they consider Mooreland Farmstead again.
This place is special. Every picture is spot on! The place was perfect for a COVID19 getaway. Close to enough and remote from too much action. The owner is fantastic with communication and the place is top notch! We hope to return again in the near future!
This place felt like home immediately. It is beautiful, clean, well cared for, and you can just feel the love the owners have for the place. It’s an easy distance from things to do if you want to leave the property, or you can stay and enjoy the beauty and peace and tennis, canoeing, walking trails, pond swimming, or rocking on the porch with a drink. We loved it and will come back soon.
The property was perfect for our family Thanksgiving stay. Everything was better than described. Lot of property to explore and hike on the trails. The kids had a blast catching bass in the pond. Adults enjoyed a lot of time on the pickleball court. Owner was very nice and responsive. We will definitely stay at this property again if we are in the area.
We were looking for a place to meet for a family vacation. This place was as described. We enjoyed the tennis courts and just hanging out at the property grounds. Great privacy. We found a couple of good restaurants in town and neighbor was super nice too. The kitchen is very nice too. It was pricey for us on a budget but not pricey for what it is. I highly recommend it for a nice place to be in the area.

Steve and his family were perfect guests. They had excellent communication and were even good sports when a smoke alarm chirped around midnight, after a long days travel. We are grateful for his gracious words, and hope he chooses Mooreland Preserve again, soon!
Your home was the perfect respite for our trip to Lake Norman for the State Championships. The 8 of us loved your home with all the bathroom and fantastic kitchen to gather and cook meals. The private tennis court was a luxury and the front porch was such a peaceful setting for drinks - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovingly restored home!

Erin and her tennis companions were the perfect guests. They were proactive in caring for our property and even asked if they could strip the beds or take our the trash! We were humbled by her kind appreciation of our place, and so thankful she chose to stay with us. Highest respect and appreciation.
What an amazing place! Even though the weather didn't cooperate as well as we hoped we still had a wonderful time! The kids enjoyed exploring the property, fishing, and the tennis court. Plenty to keep them busy! Communication with the owners and property manager was fantastic and quick to respond if any issues. We would love to stay here again!!
My family of 7, one under 2 years stayed together here for a baby shower in Statesville. There was plenty of space for the local family and friends to join us. The kitchen was large enough for three cooks to chop and prepare meals.
This is a very old home remodeled for modern families. We all had a good time walking trails on the property and playing pickleball!
We stayed at the Homestead for the week of Thanksgiving and had our family of five there. The house was extremely comfortable and all linens and beddings were clean and fresh. The kitchen was very well stocked as we had Thanksgiving dinner there and had plenty of pots, pans, dishes, etc... The property was amazing with the pond and hiking trails. We loved it and highly recommend this to any family for a special gathering.
We just got back from a lovely vacation with our five kids and pup. This house was the perfect getaway for our crew. Everything was exactly as listed. We wanted space to spread out, many outdoor options to play and explore, and a cozy place to build new memories as a family. We all enjoyed every minute. Thank you to the Moore family for letting us stay at your beautiful property.

We are completely on team Rebekah. She was neat as a pin, left the property immaculately, I mean you're on vacation and aren't trying to do a lot of cleaning, right? Just a great person and her family seemed to be right there with her in enjoying the simple pleasures our getaway offers. Thanks Rebekah!!
We had a wonderful stay at the Farmhouse with my four adult kids and two little ones. Plenty of space inside and out. The house and kitchen were fully stocked with everything we needed (might want to update the knife set; they were super dull). Would love to stay again. Check-in and out were seamless. Thank you for opening up your family home to allow us to enjoy the property.

Holly was a joy to have at Mooreland Farmstead and we are so grateful she chose us as her getaway destination. We are working hard to make sure all the modern conveniences and appointments are addressed, yet trying to maintain that 18th century charm. We will procure a new knife block set ASAP, thanks for the heads up!
This last minute decision was one of the best of 2020. The property allowed for a perfect mix of vacation activities, from lazy mornings on the front porch watching the birds to competitive bouts of tennis and exploratory hiking. The lake and canoe were enjoyed by all, including the pup.
The house was well appointed, and offered plenty of space for both privacy and together time. Kent was a gracious host, and quickly and effectively stepped in to make our trip truly pleasant.

About the host
Hosted by Kent Moore
Owners John Moore and his late wife Patricia, have worked with various conservation and civic bodies, trying to establish over 5,000 of effectively contiguous acres of the Catawba River Valley as permanent wild space. They believe the wilderness was used by the native Catawba people in harmony with nature, and the resources from your guest payment goes a long way towards a return a land use that honors the native tradition.
Why they chose this property
140 acres of rolling forest, a natural spring, tennis courts, and a private lake provide the ideal wilderness sanctuary in luxurious comfort. Fish, put a boat in Lake Norman, play pickle ball, grill out, or hike the property to its rear boundary where the Catawba river gives way to the largest man made lake in North Carolina. You may see deer, ducks, wild turkey, or any number of flora and fauna as you explore this unique property that predates the Civil War.
What makes this property unique
An authentic, restored log cabin which rents separately, is a neat photo opportunity next to the main house.
