About this property

Grandma's Suite - Convenient Valley Location, Offering 10% OFF ON TOURS!

Your private/separate mother in law apartment attached to this newly remodeled Tudor style house has a private bathroom, bedroom, and open room, which features a kitchen, dining, and sitting area!

The bedroom has a queen-sized bed with reading lights, dresser, night stand, TV, and walk-in closet. The main living area with the kitchen and dining room includes a sofa/daybed, dining table, and closet. Pets are allowed for an extra $30 fee plus taxes, nightly

This Mother in Law Apartment is attached to a house with hostel-style accommodations so you can also access the house, although any approved pets are not allowed in the house. The washer and dryer are located in the main house, through the kitchen.

You'll have a designated parking spot just in front of your private entrance and porch. Grandma's Suite is just 6 miles from the Juneau Ferry Terminal, 2.5 miles from the airport (25 min bus ride), 2 miles from the famous Mendenhall Glacier, 4.5 miles from the University of Alaska, and 10.5 miles from Downtown Juneau.

It's self check-in so late arrival is not a problem. You'll be given the lock box code a few days prior to your arrival.

Check-in is at 4pm and check out is at 11am. We will offer you early check-in and late check-out options if it's available, a couple days before your arrival/departure for a fee of $25-$50 depending on your desired schedule and availability.

Host, Kelli, happens to be a co-owner of a large tour company with over 25 tours throughout Alaska, and offers 10% discount on all tours offered by the company to her vacation rental guests. Popular tours offered in Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, and Sitka include whale watching, salmon bakes, river rafting, kayaking, canoe tours, boat tours, hiking, gold panning, private cars, Mendenhall Glacier tours, jeep tours, Alaska RV and Cruise tour packages, and more. If you are interested in this discount, ask Kelli for the details.

This one bedroom apartment is ideal for one or two people, so the advertised price is for one person, so that it remains affordable for a single guest. Pets are welcome, upon approval. Please inquire about monthly pet fees for long-term stays. If you feel that the extra animal/person fee is too expensive, and the value isn't there for you, please don't book this place. We want to offer pet friendly places and we want your business, but we want you to be happy. We strive to keep the properties clean and maintained for all guests, which this fee helps pay for. You'll be asked to rate the value of your experience, and If this fee creates a diminished value perception, then we hope you find another fabulous place for your group.

I hope you like this accessory apartment that was built in the early 90s for great grandma McBride. It has a private exterior entrance, porch, and parking spot. You can also access the main house through an interior door. Both exterior and interior entry doors feature deadbolt locks. I hope you enjoy the community environment in the house. You can use the common areas of the house, but no sleeping is allowed in the house, nor are your animals/pets allowed in the house. The apartment is your private space, and where your sleeping accommodations are located.

We will strive to provide the best customer service and improve as we go with feedback from our guests. We hope to earn your five-star review! Your expectations should be limited to what is promised here, and reviews should reflect how we did with these promises. Before submitting your review, please remember to base it on the following criteria and what was promised to be provided for the price paid as follows:

Easy check-in process – You'll be able to self-check in. Kelli will give you check-in details prior to arrival, including a lock box code. You'll be able to access the rental at your leisure after check-in time, at 4pm. We offer early check-in options, if it's available a couple days prior to your arrival for $25-$50, depending on your arrival time.

Great Communication – Kelli is known to be responsive to guests before, during, and after their stay. You can expect prompt responses to your questions. She'll respond to web site messages as soon as she can.

Clean Accommodations – Your private apartment should be sparkling clean.

Great Mendenhall Valley Location – It's steps from the city bus stop and two miles from the famous Mendenhall Glacier which you can get to by car, or walking on a paved bike path or gravel trail. You can take the bus for one mile and walk the second mile. This is not a downtown Juneau property. Downtown Juneau is substantially more expensive than the Mendenhall Valley, so this location for the price should not be compared to that of downtown. If you want to be downtown, and don't want to take a 45 minute bus ride to go 16 miles, then this space is not for you.

Accurate Description of the space - I try to make continuous improvements when guests make suggestions and do my best to keep the changes updated and published. If I missed something please let me know, so I can update the information. If you are missing something you were counting on, please let me know immediately, so I can try to provide it for your stay.

Great Value – Juneau is expensive, especially during peak season, and while this is a more affordable option, we understand that it can seem expensive. Part of the value is the ability to rent for only one night and have an additional person. The price fluctuates depending on the season. We have to charge more when the business is there, so that we can afford to have it vacant for long, slow periods.

Nice stay at Grandma's Suite
We had a very nice stay at Grandma's Suite. We found it just as described. It was convenient and easy to find. It had plenty of space for two guests. We will certainly stay here for future visits!

A pretty little place. Enjoyed my stay. On the downside, a little too far from downtown. I had no car, which made it harder.

Lovely little cottage in a quaint wilderness town that is spread out, so you'll need transportation. 4 miles from an amazing glacier and about 20 min into Juneau. Beautiful country.

Why they chose this property

This is a special property for me. I purchased it from my grandma's estate, after having spent a large part of my life there with my amazing grandmother who did so much for the Juneau community. I try to keep the place nice, as she would expect of me. She always ran a boarding house when she lived there, so it continues as such.

What makes this property unique

This is a studio apartment attached to a boarding house, so guests have access to a nice kitchen with granite countertops, and more kitchen appliances and amenities (they also have their own private kitchen in the apartment). Guests can use the common living, family, and dining rooms as well. All of the long-term residents in the house are nice and accommodating.
