About this property

Butterfly Suite-Enchanted Elegance near DCL/Wisp! Fireplace! Meadow/Forest View!

Come as you are & take a seat at nature’s table under the canopy of stars. Embrace the wooded ambiance and meadow views from our 825 sq. ft suite as you melt your cares away in front of the fireplace. We are conveniently located between I-68 and Deep Creek Lake/Wisp Ski Resort. Our hope is to provide a serene landscape where you can experience peace and rest through nature. Our setup works well for business travelers, couples, couples with children and for those celebrating a special occasion.

The Butterfly Suite is a brand new 2nd floor 825 SQ FT 1 Bedroom/1 Bath suite, with a private entrance with 17 steps. While it is attached to our home, it is soundproofed to where normal conversations cannot be heard. It has central heat and air conditioning, with an exterior entrance & parking for 2-3 cars. The suite parking and entrance is on a different side of the house from the main entrance. We are hidden at the end of a 700’ lane through a forest carpeted with ferns.

The suite overlooks a 60-acre former strawberry farm where deer and wild turkeys are frequent guests. Feel free to gander at our resident chickens and take a leisurely walk /hike through the woods and our property! Take a seat and enjoy the stars in their nightly splendor while sitting around the fire pit. In the summer air you can hear the music of cicadas and crickets strumming their wings and spring peepers in the moonlight. This is one of my favorites!

Although this is newly constructed there is plenty of age & history. Most of the stone used on the premises are from the farm. Some of the hand cut stones used in the landscaping were from the foundation of a (1800’s) school that Ken’s grandfather attended. The fireplace mantel and window trim were constructed by Ken from 140-year-old barn-boards.

The bedroom has a king size bed. The bathroom with a tub/shower is attached to the bedroom. There is a single bed sized day bed with a trundle in the Living Room. There is also a couch in the Living Room that can be used to sleep on. We have a rollaway bed stored in the laundry room that you may use if needed. A Pack-n-Play and a crib mattress are also available for small children.

The suite has a full kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, microwave, drip coffee maker, and a Keurig coffee maker. The kitchen is also equipped with a toaster, crockpot, cooking and eating utensils, sugar, salt, basic spices, assorted teas, a few K-Cups, etc.

The Kitchen/Living Room has a 10 vaulted ceiling with a gas fireplace. Warm yourself by the fire and relax after a day of skiing at the Wisp.

This is a perfect location for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, a peaceful retreat in the country, or for a family ski weekend! It also works great for a business traveler looking for a home away from home. The 8’x8’ balcony is a great location to have your morning coffee and watch the sun rise and the deer graze in the meadow!

There is a TV in the Living Room and the service is Dish. A DVD player and some assorted DVD movies are available for you to use.

Free Wireless Internet is available. It is provided by Neubeam (5 MBPS) and will permit some streaming. It is possible to use VPN connections if you must check in for business while on your vacation. We have been told that Comcast will be available here later in the year and at that time we intend to upgrade our internet.

To make the stay of our guests with allergies more pleasant, this is a NO SMOKING and NO PET property.

Guests have exclusive use of the suite. There are two parking spaces designated for our guests. Outdoor areas are shared.

This is a 2nd story suite with 17 steps. If you cannot do steps, this property may not work well for you. This is also a smoke free and illegal drug free property.

The Neighborhood

Ken’s mother owns a cabin a few hundred yards away that sleeps 12 so extended family and friends can stay nearby but retire to their own private space. The two-acre lake is visible from the balcony.

Great little place!
Great little place in the country! We were in town for a WVU game and wanted a nice place to stay - great alternative to the hotels charging extremely high rates due to the game. Wish we had more time to spend and relax at the apt. Rooster on the property, so be ready for an early morning wake up call ;)

Over night
We arrived about 30 minutes before check in. The hosts were very personable & accommodating. Ken & Cheryl allowed up to check in early to get started on our minni getaway. The house was very clean & cozy. We had an enjoyable night in front of the fireplace. We plan on a return trip to stay a little longer next time.

Perfect peaceful stay minutes from Deep Creek Lake
My son and I stayed a night (though we wish we were able to stay longer!) in the Butterfly Suite when we came to the area to enjoy some mountain biking. The unit was much larger than shown in the description and is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean! The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the kitchen was fully equipped with all that we needed. The hosts Ken and Cheryl were very welcoming and provided great tips on local places to eat. The surrounding property is extremely peaceful and beautiful. My 11-year old son especially enjoyed spending hours fishing on the pond on sight. We will definitely be back to enjoy this beautiful property! Thanks for a perfect stay!

Property was very clean and included all the necessary amenities for cooking. Access was easy and the owners were available if needed. It includes a king size bed that was very comfortable. I strongly recommend this property.

About the host

Hosted by Ken Maust

Host profile image
I, Ken, grew up in Accident, MD on a farm. In 1995 I moved to Nashville, TN to take a job as a Road Manager/Sound Engineer for many different artists. This took me to all 50 states and about 15 countries. In Nashville, I met my wife Cheryl who was working for the management company of George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Dierks Bentley, and others. She also went to school for interior design.
We got married in 2002 and now have 4 children. After the children came along, I decided I no longer wanted to be on the road all the time, so I got a "real job" in the building industry designing homes. In 2014 we decided to move back to Accident, MD. Cheryl and I designed our new home and we moved in Dec 2017.
We both love having guests over and enjoy cooking. Sipping a fresh cup of hot coffee on the front porch while watching the deer and wild turkeys is an enjoyment of ours. Cheryl's parents both moved to the US from Cuba in the 1950's so Cheryl's first language was Spanish. Cheryl grinds her own flour and bakes fresh bread regularly. Her homemade pizzas will rival any pizza shop! One of her passions is to take old furniture or other objects and take her artistic touch to turn them into something new, useful and exciting! She also enjoys oil painting when she gets the opportunity.
While I now spend much of my time working from home designing houses, I also mix sound at a local state university where they bring in various national/international artists. Since 1997, I have been the road manager/sound engineer for Grammy winner Bob Carlisle - "Butterfly Kisses". Although he is now “retired”, I still occasionally do a concert with him. It was his multi-platinum hit song Butterfly Kisses that inspired the name Butterfly Suite. Bob stayed in our guest room when in Nashville and always referred to it as “The Bob Carlisle Suite”. That is why we call this “The Butterfly Suite”.

Why they chose this property

We built this house on a 5 acre lot from the farm I grew up on.

What makes this property unique

As a child, I always loved this corner of the farm with it's old growth hemlock trees, the fern carpeted forest floor and all of the wildlife. It was always my dream to someday design and build a house here!
