One mile from the ocean. Private and quiet. This is not shared property, you will have the cottage and 1.34 acres of tropical vegetation all to yourself. Centrally located for Hilo, Pahoa, and Volcanoes National Park. Visit nearby botanical gardens, waterfalls, a zoo, and Puna restaurants; or just stay on the property and peace out.

It was beyond our expectations. Everything you might need was conveniently located in our “place”. Communication was easy. It was very clean. The bed was super comfortable. It was designed perfectly. We loved getting to visit with the sweet geckos every morning. The fruit orchard was fun to walk through and see the variety of fruits grown there. We were very happy with our accommodations. I highly recommend this place!

One with nature

We loved our stay mainly because of the acre of fruit trees and numerous geckos that entertain. There wasn’t any ripe fruit when we visited, except for some grapefruit, but if your trip is at the right time of year, I am sure it is fun to eat fresh fruit from the orchard. It was nice to feel like you could be outside with privacy. The house has an outdoor kitchen and living areas which we enjoyed.

Totally private but close to town. Very relaxing. Just sit outside and enjoy nature. Easy to locate, and owner was very gracious. Lovely setting.

Little Slice of Paradise

The location was great! Close to the volcanoes and close all of the falls! Nice little cottage for a couple getaway and I especially love the landscaping, makes it feel very private. Loved our stay and would definitely recommend if you’re on the Hilo side!

Our beautiful stay

My husband and I ended our visit to the Big Island by staying at this lovely property in Hilo for a few nights. We were aware that this side of the island gets a considerable amount of rain, especially this time of the year. We talked about possibly returning next year when the weather and numerous fruit trees are producing. .

Amazing little cottage

Had a great stay at this lovely property. The little cottage is perfect for two and the Hawaii weather makes the outdoor living area so enjoyable . We really loved walking around the garden every morning and picking fruit to make fresh juice . The host were excellent. It was a perfect little vacation .

Peaceful getaway

We loved our stay at this super peaceful cottage. The mostly outdoor living was the best! Listening to the rain at night was so relaxing. We had a great time walking around the orchard and trying to figure out what all the fruit trees are. The location was very convenient to HVNP and Hilo.

An Amazing Getaway

We had a wonderful time! The cottage was super clean and cozy! just the right size for the two of us. The fruit trees made a fabulous back drop for our breakfast each morning. The kitchen dining area had everything we needed for our week stay. The outdoor shower was a blessing for sure, it only took one shower to get used to the idea of being outside AMAZING! Would recommend to everyone but make sure its not too booked so we can come back!

Lovely cabin and surroundings

We loved the cabin and outdoor kitchen and shower. Everything was spotless and gave us a true Hawaiian off grid experience. The private acres were beautiful and the fresh fruit from the many fruit trees was the very best. Especially loved the oranges and grapefruit. The owners were so very friendly and hospitable. Unfortunately the weather was not the best but we still appreciated the experience. Highly recommend. Thank you Merlyn and Richard, you made our stay a happy one, in spite of the weather.

Fresh Fruit For Dayzzz

It was a pleasure staying here! Merlin was a wonderful host and super accommodating. She is also super sweet and definitely takes pride in her property, which is clearly a labor of love for her and her family. She showed us around and called out the different fruit trees, as well at told us to take fruit to go! As for our stay itself, it was wonderful! It was the perfect way to truly disconnect at the start of our HI vacation. Everything was very clean and well kept, just as described! We would definitely recommend staying here :)

Private & Quiet Simple Cottage

Very cute & small cottage on big property in rural part of Paradise Park. Very nice covered sitting area with a hammock. Good Wi-fi connection. No coffee machine tho. Very limited inside area for clothes & other personal items. Had to get used to outside shower. Open but covered kitchen area. Great place for getting away from it all...

Cute-clean-perfect-for-2-place-to-stay

We had some of the sweetest and juiciest fruit from the orchard everyday! I was surprised that I could not use a hair dryer but otherwise Rich and Merlyn were easy to reach, the rental was peaceful, close enough to go to attractions/Hilo but far enough to seem like you were in your own piece of paradise. Out door shower and kitchen was different for us as we are from Canada but water pressure was great and the weather was perfect. I would recommend misquote repellent as it is lush and be surprised by the geckos that jump out of no where but are so cute.

Very Relaxing

This property is very nice, the grounds are beautiful and we spent a lot of time sitting at the gazebo. There are LOTS of lizards about and many birds. Neighbors on either side have dogs, so if you don't like barking or can't tune it out, this might not be for you. As a dog owner, this didn't bother us. The hosts are very friendly and nearby if needed but unobtrusive. The bed is super comfy. There are nearby hikes, a great Thai and Taco place too! The Keeau humane society is close too in case you want to take a shelter dog out for a day! Would definitely stay here again.

An experience--more than just a stay!

I do LONG reviews because I like reading LONG reviews--for the short review--precisely as advertised and very accommodating/communicative host. Now some details: It is an off-the-grid cabin with an outdoor (open) kitchen and shower amid a wonderful citrus orchard. Beyond citrus, we saw Papaya and Starfruit, but citrus was in season! Get directions clearly in advance--especially if arriving after dark--it's a gravel street and you need to open a farm-style gate--and Hawaii street numbering is confusing (especially to my Applemaps). Bedroom is super comfy (and enclosed), but the frogs, birds and insects will charm you to sleep. Kitchen is nice, but cooking is on a propane grill. The outdoor shower is a great out of body experience. It's currently the only cabin on the property and very private from the neighbors. Super convenient to Hilo, Pahoa and the area around Kilaeau--a bit of a drive to Kona, but Saddle Road is easy--and Mauna Kea is enroute. We've come to prefer to the Hilo side of the island, but that is a personal preference. This is NOT your Hawaii resort, but it's an experience you will cherish and the host did everything to accommodate our requests.

This little place was perfect! We had a wonderful stay with everything we needed. The geckos were a lot of fun. The outdoor shower was so nice. We had an issue with the door lock at check in and the owner responded immediately and fixed it, it worked great the rest of the stay. 5 stars for the house and host. Only giving 4 stars for the "neighborhood" only because there were lots of barking dogs. It really wasn't an issue for us, just letting folks know in case that's an issue for anyone else.

We only stayed there a brief time, but its a cute place with lots of lovely fruit trees. The outdoor kitchen was nice and stocked. Lots of cute little lizzards outside. Even though the place doesn't have air conditioning it was comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the outside shower was amazing.

Piece Of Paradise

We LOVED our 2 night stay here. It was so relaxing and exactly what was described. It was a bit of nature, fruit trees and peace. We had excellent communication with the hosts. The outdoor shower was pretty cool. We really can’t say enough good about it. Will 100% stay here again when returning to Hilo side of the island.

Owner and her friend Ellie were very helpful to me as I spent a week on the Big Island with my son for his wedding. The property was amazing with all the fruit trees and peaceful space.

Beautiful property and garden with tons of fruits

The grounds were amazing. We were allowed to pick our own fruits like papaya, sapote, banana, mountain apple, avocado, cacao, etc. The property was clean and cozy, and the outdoor shower was very nice. Only downside was a couple of loud coqui frogs at night, and it was a bit of a drive to Hilo.

A wonderful Hawaii experience

We loved the beautiful property. We were looking forward to the open air bungalow and it was fabulous! Hilo usually has evening rains and it was just lovely. There are sunshades and curtains throughout the house, so if you don't want quite so much open air, or more privacy, you can close them. It is the perfect size for 2 people. We will be back again.
