Casa Matapalo is the most private unit within Jaco Casitas Rentals, a family-run property surrounded by jungle and tropical gardens. This elevated home offers a unique experience: it feels like you’re floating among the treetops, with views from nearly every corner—bedroom, kitchen, balcony, and terrace.

Perfect for couples, remote workers, nature lovers, and adventurous travelers seeking peace, comfort, and a deep connection with the Costa Rican jungle.

The Space
• Bedroom with 2 queen-size beds and panoramic garden and wetland views
• Air conditioning, fan, and fast WiFi
• Private bathroom with small closet (Note: the shower is not heated, water is naturally fresh due to the tropical climate)
• Fully equipped open kitchen, ideal for cooking while immersed in nature
• Private balcony with a hammock for relaxing, reading, or wildlife watching
• TV for when you want to unwind indoors

Important to Know:
To access Casa Matapalo, 4x4 is required and guests must climb approximately 70 steps from the parking area. The view and privacy at the top are worth it, but we recommend considering this if you have mobility or health concerns.

What Makes It Special:
• Elevated views over Jacó’s last remaining wetlands
• Total privacy – surrounded by jungle and located away from other houses
• Common sightings of iguanas, raccoons, butterflies, and tropical birds
• Designed to feel open, breezy, and deeply connected with the natural environment
• Beds have mosquito nets, and we suggest bringing repellent for outdoor comfort

Everything we expected for a Tree House

We were met by the host who showed us around. The property was spectacular with a great view. If you’re looking for a place where you can be one with nature this is it. The only negative was the shower had very little water pressure and was just a stream coming out. And it was cold. However it was fine for us only staying one night.

Beautiful not-quite-finished home!

The house is as beautiful we we imagined! The windows look out over the jungle and it's absolutely stunning. The outdoor kitchen was a great way to spend our breakfast, and we were able to even enjoy the hammock on the deck outside of the bedroom as well. Our biggest complaints were the shower did not have a head attached to it was only a trickle of water coming out. It also didn't have hot water, which we found out later is pretty common in Costa Rica. Feels nice after hiking up the hill to get to the house, but not great in the morning. I think the house could use some find tuning, there are a couple spots with large gaps which really just waste air conditioning, and it would be nice to have hooks or something in the bathroom. You also definitely need 4 wheel drive to get to the house. We even had to use 4L to get back out. But the beds were glorious and I would still definitely recommend this home! The view alone is worth it!

About the host

Hosted by Paola

Host profile image
I’m a nature lover, surfer, aerialist, and passionate traveler based in Jacó, Costa Rica. Along with my family, we’ve created Jaco Casitas Rentals as a peaceful space where guests can disconnect from stress and reconnect with nature.

Hosting has become a beautiful way for me to share the lifestyle I love—surfing early mornings, walking barefoot in the garden, listening to the birds. I enjoy welcoming people from all over the world and helping them experience the real Costa Rica: full of life, simplicity, and pura vida energy.

If you have any questions before or during your stay, I’ll be happy to help. I want you to feel comfortable, safe, and inspired while staying in our home.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood because it offers the best of both worlds: it’s peaceful, green, and full of wildlife, yet just minutes away from the beach, great surf, and everything Jacó has to offer.

Our property is located near Jacó’s last remaining wetlands, which makes it a truly special place. You can hear birds singing in the morning, feel the breeze through the bamboo, and sometimes even spot monkeys or toucans nearby.

We love that we can enjoy privacy and nature here, while still being just a short drive from restaurants, supermarkets, and local life. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to relax, connect with nature, and still enjoy a bit of adventure.

What makes this property unique

Casa Matapalo offers one of the most private and elevated experiences in Jacó. Nestled in the hills of a protected family property, this home feels like a treetop hideaway, with stunning views over the wetlands and surrounding jungle.

What truly sets it apart is its design—light, open, and immersed in nature. From the kitchen to the bedroom to the hammock balcony, every space was created to help you feel calm, inspired, and connected to the outdoors.

The house is only accessible by a staircase of 70 steps, which adds to the sense of seclusion and serenity. It’s a rare find: a peaceful jungle escape with full privacy, fast WiFi, and all the essentials for a comfortable stay.
