Property and stay were better than expected, hosts are very welcoming and helpful, we plan on staying again in the near future, and highly recommend staying here as it was a fantastic experience!
Loved the serenity of the place and that we had the whole place to ourselves. Our dog loved it too. Only recommendations would be to have a mirror in the cabin and to tell guest to bring water and a blow dryer in the bath house would be perfect.
The cabin was perfect for 2 adults and 2 small dogs. We loved the privacy and the extreme quiet from the hussle and bussel of dayly life. If you like rustic this is a perfect place. River is so clean and sandy bottom. Outdoor kitchen was my favorite.
This idyllic little hideaway was the perfect spot away from the holiday crowds. The weather complied, we had bonfires, cooked in the outdoor kitchen and the cast iron stove kept us toasty.
It was a great stay, very private, and wonderful scenery. Karen was very prompt in her responses to any questions I had both before my arrival, and during my stay. There was plenty to do in the area, but the campground was perfect for staying in. All in all, a very welcome vacation
We had such a great time! The host had all the supplies we could need for a comfortable stay, and was so friendly and accommodating! It was overall very peaceful and secluded. This is a great place disconnect and I would highly recommend.
Secluded spot on family farm, perfect dipping spot on the bear river, is by a busy road, so not so quiet, bring ear plugs, water, firewood, canoe livery right across the road, fun river to drift
Perfect getaway with my husband and puppy. Cabin was adorable and had everything you need. Relaxing outside by the water, as our puppy took a swim. Had a wonderful time.
I have spent a lot of time up North and this was one of the most peaceful and enjoyable places we have stayed in a long time. We loved the cabin and Karen was great. Thank you so much.
Karen is a wonderful host. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Loved the location- secluded, yet close to downtown. It has private access to the river, right in the backyard. Serene environment. We also loved all the details of the decoration in the cabin. Definitely will be back!!
Even though the listing and reviews mentioned that it was rustic, we didn’t understand that electricity was only by a generator that we had to bring or rent. The access was also difficult- a bumpy ride on a long path in our pick up truck. The setting was beautiful! The cabin was decorated very cute and the outdoor area was charming. The price was right and location excellent for our desire to spend time at our favorite places in Petoskey. This cabin is more conducive for someone wanting a more secluded “camping “ experience.
I could not have imagined a better weekend stay the property is beautiful and secluded right on Bear River! Karen is an amazing host and will accommodate any needs You may have that she is capable of. The cabin is so cozy, and even though we didn’t bring a generator the fuel lamps were cozy and took me back in time,
The decor everywhere it’s just amazing and we brought way more supplies that we needed as she has everything well stocked! We didn’t want to leave, and we even canceled our Skybridge walk, because the property was so amazing . We will definitely return as often as we can.

Not for us
Karen was very nice. Only camping site on the property. You are literally camping in the owner’s yard. Bear river is small and had random people coming in off the river. Trails aren’t for hiking. Outhouse is what it is a outhouse.

North country trail right off Mcdougal rd, 3 minutes away. Cabin is on River , at least 15 minute walk from our home and only accessible by private road into woods. Owners own Bear river canoe livery , which offers canoe kayak and paddle board rentals, so people do paddle past
Rustic. Great place to get away from all the conveniences of home. No electricity. No water. Very clean outhouse. Adorable cabin. The outdoor kitchen was unique. The bathhouse was on the property but a long way from cabin. The host was fabulous! Overall a great experience.
During the first night of check in, Karen was kind enough to show us around her property as well as led us into the cozy, private, and beautiful cabin. The cabin had all the things that we needed to stay comfortable. Karen even had a dog blanket ready for our dog, cooper! The shared bath house was squeaky clean, and had all the amenities you need for a nice shower. We also got to fish at the bear river, which is around 20 yards from the cabin. The fuel lamps were enough to keep the cabin bright. Will be back!!!!
A lot of reviews I read about this property claimed there was everything you could need. That is indeed true!! Three different options for cooking, a five-star hotel comfort king bed, an easy-start generator and gas supplied for electricity, candles, battery-operated lanterns and oil lanterns for those who wish a quieter experience, cooking and eating utensils, disposable plates, napkins, cups bowls, eating utensils, enamel-ware for food, modern cookware (limited) and lots of cast iron for cooking, an amazing welcome basket, a gracious and attentive property hostess, even personal house slippers!! What more could you ask for? Thanks so much!
My partner and I had a wedding to attend in Indian River, so we stayed here for two nights (with our dog!) It is September, so the nights are chilly - perfect for the campfire and the wood burning stove. It was such a peaceful spot to come back to after the wedding. Be sure to read all the details- there is only electric if you provide the generator, as well as a neat outdoor kitchen. If you plan to cook or grill bring your own firewood/charcoal. And there is an outhouse right behind the cabin, as well as access to a full bath house, however it is up at the front of the property and you park at the bottom of the hill and walk up. As long as you are aware of these details, it is such a cute little cabin and surrounding area!! We truly did enjoy it!!
Karen’s property was really beautiful. The cabin is a bit of a walk through a campsite and into the woods, perfect if you like to feel remote. The cabin was very clean and her check in process was thorough and easy. There is a nice outdoor kitchen set up with pots and pans and propane, . I will say the cabin gets very dark, even during the day, so it’s a good idea to bring flash lights and some LED lanterns if you have them. It was a bit too cold this weekend to canoe, but perfect weather for having a fire and staying in. :) The wood burning stove was really fun, and Karen is attentive and helpful if you should need her. As for Petoskey, my partner and I really fell in love with the area and hope to return soon!
Beautiful area, we went to go through tunnel of trees so didn’t spend a lot of day time there. Right of the river but don’t know how good fishing is and she has everything for you there to use for cooking..
This peaceful, relaxing, fun getaway was just what we wanted for our babymoon! Loved walking along the gorgeous property with our dogs, paddleboarding on Bear River, cooking and eating outside, and taking a quick trip to downtown Petoskey. Great location. Awesome hosts.
