Exceptional Penthouse with the Best Beachfront Location in Guanacaste

Luxurious 4-bedroom, 4 1/2 bath penthouse on peaceful Playa Potrero.

Our spacious home (3000 square feet) is beautifully decorated and features high-end finishes throughout: quartz and granite counter tops, solid wood cabinetry, tiled bathrooms, original art, and custom furniture, paintwork, window treatments and bedding. It offers all the comforts of home, including WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and garbage disposal, and a variety of entertainment options. Twice weekly housekeeping service is included.

Our penthouse occupies the entire top floor of a 5 unit building. It is located in the exclusive Surfside development, in the center of a wide bay stretching from Sugar Beach to Playa Flamingo. World-class ocean fishing, sailing, surfing, scuba and snorkeling are only minutes away. A well-stocked grocery store and many cafes/restaurants are within walking distance. Nearby Playa Flamingo (10 minutes drive) and Tamarindo (about 1/2 hour) have a wealth of restaurants, shops and services to meet your every desire.

Despite its luxurious appointments, our penthouse is child-friendly. Playa Potrero is one of the calmest beaches in Guanacaste, with gentle surf and soft sand. Unlike some other properties in the area, there are no roads to cross or hills to navigate to get to the ocean.

There's a zero-entry swimming pool and large grass play area between our building and the beach. We've stocked our home with boogie boards, swim fins, masks and snorkels, and a variety of toys and books.

Our local property managers are ready to help you with anything you need to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. They can have the home stocked with groceries when you arrive, and arrange for transportation, a massage or daily maid service (twice weekly cleaning is included in your rental fee). They can help you plan jungle or canopy tours, excursions to the area’s many spectacular volcanoes, scuba or surfing lessons, or golf or fishing trips.

Our family group of eight was extremely happy with all aspects of our stay in Potrero. The access to the beach could not have been better. The view from the balcony had an amazing sunset every evening. It was convenient to restaurants and long morning walks on the beach.

I cannot say enough about this place!! We were a family of 11 and felt very comfortable here!! The kitchen is so well equipped! I don’t think there was one thing that we couldn’t find in there! All of the pool toys and sand toys were a bonus for our young kids! The set up is amazing. The beach is so close so if you forget anything it’s a quick few steps back to the unit! The unit was very clean! The concierge service was great and helped with any questions we had! Not to mention their driver Kenneth who went above and beyond for our family! The area was very safe and welcoming without being “touristy”. The waves weren’t very big which was great for our kids to play in the water!! A small grocery store had most of our needs for making most of our meals at home!! And any restaurants we tried were great as well! Again, I could go on forever about how great of a trip we had! Thank you so much for hosting our family! We will be back for sure!!

El Destino Penthouse is great for a family or friends traveling together. With 4 bedrooms, large kitchen and a large terrace, it makes for a great vacation.The ocean waves are great in the morning or afternoon., and can wade in for hours.The market a block away is great for replenishing or buying groceries or general items.

Perfect family stay

The penthouse was perfect for our family vacation. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated and well equipped. We lacked nothing in our stay. There was no need for a beach tent because of the shade of the almond trees which reached the high tide line.

Spacious 4-bedroom penthouse full stocked with everything our family needed for a week's vacation. The view from the balcony was amazing! The neighbors were wonderful. Plenty of restaurant options within walking distance and the local market was also stocked well. Would definitely return!

One of the best ever

We are a multi generational family of nine. We had an amazing stay at El Destino Penthouse. It was one of the best equipped units we have ever stayed in. Communication with the owner was over and above what was necessary. The grounds were very well kept and comfortable. The location is one of the best in Potrero. We would highly recommend staying there.

Wonderful family time

We had a beautiful stay at Chris's El Destino Penthouse. It's large with lots of spaces to congregate or have solo time. The kitchen has everything you could need. The outdoor patio is well equipped with table and comfortable chairs and has a stunning view of the Pacific. The beach is easily accessible on a path and the surf quiet for little ones but possible to Boogie Board at certain times. It's a short walk up the beach to a couple of restaurants which were easy and tasty. Chris, the owner, was wonderful to work with (even through some VRBO snafus) and provided lots of information about the area. All in all, El Destino was a great success!

El Destino is divine

Just stayed here for a week with my 19 year old daughter and her friends. It was amazing! Beautiful weather even though the "rainy" season. Peaceful and restful stay. The condo has all you need in the kitchen, bedrooms, laundry, etc. The only surprising issue was that the penthouse is on the 3rd floor and there's no elevator so just pack light in smaller suitcases or backpacks and let the teenagers do the heavy lifting.

We stayed in Playa Flamingo for 7 days with 17 family members and wrapped up our trip at El Destino for the last 3 days with only 7 of us. We had 4 adults, 2 toddlers and an infant and this condo was perfect. It was huge and very child friendly. The owners have stocked it with everything you'll ever need and the staff are friendly and very helpful. It is within walking distance of several great restaurants and a grocery store. Chris was extremely helpful and provided us with a recommendation list that was spot on. I can't say enough positive things about this place! We will be back!

El Destino in Potrero

Absolutely stunning! The penthouse was modern with ample room for our group. It’s right on the beach with a pool. Two kayaks, multiple boogie boards and a ton of beach toys were available for our use. The facility was immaculate and staff amazing! They were super responsive to our questions and requests. The recommended excursion was WELL beyond our expectations at an EXTREMELY reasonable price!!! Eddie our tour guide was wonderful and went ABOVE and BEYOND to provide a great experience. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it HIGHLY to others. A great company/host to work with. Our Spanish is limited but they worked well to accommodate. Thanks for the great experience!!!

AMAZING!

We returned yesterday from the most amazing trip to Costa Rica. We were first time visitors and loved our time in CR. El Destino Penthouse was the perfect home away from home for our family of 5 (children ages 5, 12, 15). This home can accommodate much larger groups but allowed our family ample space to spread out. The kitchen is well appointed, they provide beach towels & toys for the beach & some kitchen staples. The mid week cleaning was the cherry on top! We communicated with the property manager prior to arrival and had groceries stocked in the kitchen and a golf cart parked and awaiting our arrival. The sunsets from the deck and beach are absolutely stunning! Hemingways restaurant (a short walk down the beach), the Beach House (a walk up the beach or short drive in the golf cart) were our favorite spots for dinner. When booking our trip we considered Playa Potrero and Playa Flamingo. We took the golf cart to explore Playa Flamingo and the marina and we were so glad we chose to stay in Playa Potrero! Potrero is a quiet, dark sand beach which satisfied all of our kids desires. The older kids like big waves while my 5 year old likes to splash in calmer water. Depending on the time of day and the tide we had all of the above. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back!

We are a Colorado couple with 5 grown children, 12 grandchildren and two goofy golden retrievers. We love to ski, golf, fish, hike and enjoy the outdoors. We also like to travel, with recent trips to Alaska, Africa, Europe and New Zealand. Tom is a retired computer business owner and Chris is a psychologist and part-time consultant. Since we bought our El Destino penthouse in 2007, we have averaged about 3 trips each year to Costa Rica.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Costa Rica on our first visit and were fortunate to find a property that has allowed us to share this beautiful place with our family, friends and rental guests. We chose our El Destino penthouse for many reasons: it accomodates large groups easily and with all the comforts of home; it has incredible ocean views and sounds; and, because it is in the middle of a large bay, we have no undertow and our young grandchildren can handle the waves. We also like being located in a residential neighborhood where the beach is never crowded, but which offers easy access to a variety of restaurants, shops, and adventurous tourist activities.

What makes this property unique

Because our penthouse occupies the entire third floor of our building, we have spectacular ocean views from Flamingo Beach and the marina on the south, to the town of Potrero and beautiful secluded beaches and islands on the north. We think our terrace, which spans almost the entire width of the building, is the best place in the area to view the sunset. Unlike many other 'beachfront' properties nearby, you don't have to cross a road or navigate down a hill to get from our building to the beach. One of our favorite early morning rituals is to walk from one end of the bay to the other, looking for shells, crabs and other ocean life. Along the estuaries that flow into the bay, we have spotted monkeys in the trees and birds such as egrets, herons and roseate spoonbills (from which Flamingo Beach gets its name). Every day we see something new and different.
