1930's remodeled 2 bedroom, 1 bath beach cottage. Sleeps 6. Two twin beds, one queen and a queen size hide-a-bed. Dishwasher, washer and dryer. Views of the river from most windows. 2 hours from Baltimore and 1 1/2 hrs from Washington DC, this locations offers the opportunity for many natural and cultural experiences. Located near the first capital of Maryland, St. Mary's city, historic Colonial and Civil War sites and memorial, and the United States Naval Test Center, St. Mary's county offers something for everyone. This is an excellent sandy beach for SUP and kayaks. Fish off the beach or paddle out into the river. Local marinas offer boat launching facilities. A list of near by restaurants, markets, shops, hiking trails and museums are provided.

Peaceful getaway

The cool ac and the clean home was a great introduction to our stay! The house was very nice and clean also well stocked. Lauri and Scott were both great hosts. We loved relaxing fishing kayaking and more on the Potomac river.

Weekend getaway

Quaint home with great views of the river. Clean and well taken care of. Owners live next door and we’re very accommodating. Would highly recommend this for a nice getaway.

Perfect spot to stay while visiting family!

McKays Beach

A very nice, quiet, and private weekend get away to celebrate a B-Day! Very clean and well stocked. It was a perfect spot for some quiet, uninterrupted fishing and college football. The weather was perfect. We will more than likely return for another stay!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was so peaceful and relaxing. Outside deck with comfortable Adirondack chairs for sunset was definitely a highlight.. Leonardtown nearby. Great restaurants and coastal market at the wharf. We were sad to leave.

No better location than right on the water! Very convenient to everything so we could explore St. Mary’s county while visiting family in the area but still tucked away and peaceful so it felt like a vacation!

Fantastic - as ever

It’s been a while since we visited our kinda-regular beach house haunt just outside DC as usual we had a lovely time. It’s the perfect place just to be - to read, do jigsaws and play with your kid(s). Whatever the weather is doing outside. Can’t wait to return.

Absolutely loved this place!

The house is beyond beautiful with views from every window and comfortable beds. Everything you could need was stocked in the house from paper towels, to sheets and beach towels. The owners are amazing people. Did so many little extras for our boys and us! Too many to list! We loved our stay and cant wait to come back next year!

Perfect Little River Get Away

We absolutely loved the house at McKay’s Beach - beautifully restored classic river cottage with stunning views. We had everything we needed; coffee, kitchen well-stocked, super comfortable rooms and spacious common areas. We came for a weekend to check out St Mary’s College and can’t wait to come back when the weather is warm to take advantage of all the fun summer activities on the water. Pleasantly surprised to have charming back deck with fire pit. We all loved it. The host is lovely and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend!

Stillness, quiet, and a fantastic water view

After a frenzied week (month?) of work we were really happy to arrive for a quiet weekend away, and we were richly rewarded for choosing to rent this property. It was clean, had comfortable furniture, and was quiet. The Potomac river was fantastically close. The hosts lived next door and were able to respond to some minor issues (we thought we were going to run out of the bottled water they supplied, and they dropped off a new container within a few minutes). We had a fantastic dinner in nearby Leonardtown. We absolutely loved our visit and hope to return soon (perhaps with our adult children in tow).

Oh. My. Goodness. What a Beautiful Cottage!

This cottage is absolutely beautiful! From the welcoming front porch, to the perfectly appointed kitchen and the comfortable, spacious rooms - it is wonderful. We had the good fortune of arriving just before sunset and it was spectacular. It thoroughly confused us for a moment - sunset over the water on the East Coast? Wait a minute! Oh yeah, we are looking at an unbelievably wide river and facing West! It was just gorgeous. If you would like to visit this area, stay HERE. It's lovely, peaceful, and very comfortable. The owners have clearly gone waaaaaay above and beyond to make this cottage perfect. The pictures do not do it justice at all. Truthfully, we spent a good portion of the weekend just watching the birds and listening to the waves.

Thank you Lauri and Scott for welcoming us to your beautiful cottage and beach! This was a great fit for our family of four with two school age boys. I liked the open space in the home so I could see our boys play while I was prepping food in the kitchen. I appreciated that the kitchen had all I needed to make simple meals. I loved that the beach was right out down below the lawn so our boys could have fun skipping rocks, finding shells and sea glass and come right back inside to cool off. We had so much fun kayaking to the longer beach and back and on our last full day we got to see a thunderstorm roll in. It was a beautiful place to spend a few days to rest and play. Lauri annd Scott, you are wonderful hosts!! We hope to come back!

We recently purchased the cottage next door from family friends. We set about a year converting it to open, airy cottage. We have lived in this neighborhood for over 30 years and are happy to share this amazing and magical place with you. Scott is a retired Navy Test Pilot and currently working in the Electric Vehicle Industry and Lauri is a Yoga Therapist and Artist. Many of her paintings hang in the cottage. We are happy to help you make your stay as memorable as possible. Enjoy!

Why they chose this property

Valley Lee Maryland has been home to us since 1984. The home next to the cottage was our first home we ever purchased. This is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. We have travel extensively but for pure peace and beauty this is it for us.

What makes this property unique

You can see some body of water from every room in the house. The living room faces west and the sunsets paint the house with every color you can imagine. You can swim, float, borrow our kayaks, fish, crab and just sit and gaze at the beauty around you. Enjoy a picnic or a cookout and dine as the sunset over the Potomac.
